CMLL (FRI) 02/17/2012 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Sensei & Tigre Blanco b Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Arkángel de la Muerte, Nitro, Skándalo b Ángel Azteca Jr., Dragon Lee, Rey Cometa
Dragon Lee’s return from injury. CMLL raved about him and he won the second with a SSP, but the rudos took 1/3, the last with Nitro beating Cometa.
3) Misterioso Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis b Fuego, Sagrado, Sangre Azteca
Super Rosa Driver on Sagrado gave Misterioso’s team the win. Sagrado was strechered out.
4) Máscara Dorada & Volador Jr. b Euforia & Guerrero Maya Jr. [natl pi, eightfinal]
5) Máximo & Mephisto b La Sombra & Mr. Águila [natl pi, eightfinal]
Maximo kissed Mephisto by mistake. Mephisto dropped him with the Devil’s Wings and Sombra/Aguila easily advanced. Mephito hit refere Guero Noriega as well.
6) Kráneo & Super Porky b Atlantis & Mr. Niebla [natl pi, eightfinal]
Atlantis & Niebla had Zacarias with them all night. The parrot tried a dive on Mije here, which did not work well.
7) Averno & La Máscara b Olímpico & Valiente [natl pi, eightfinal]
Averno walked out on Mascara immediately after the win.
8) La Sombra & Mr. Águila b Máscara Dorada & Volador Jr. [natl pi, quarterfinal]
said to be great. Volador seemed to have a hamstring injury at the end of this match.
9) Atlantis & Mr. Niebla b Averno & La Máscara [natl pi, quarterfinal]
Averno & Mascara started accidentally hitting each other, then switched to not so accidentally hitting each other. Opposition won.
10) Atlantis & Mr. Niebla b La Sombra & Mr. Águila [natl pi, semifinal]
Mije came out with Mr. Aguila for another fight with Zacarias. Clean win via submissions.

SuperLuchas wonders if Hernandez is the surprise luchador in next Thursday’s AAA TV taping at Arena Naucalpan.

Enrique Yniesta teased Zorro, Cibernetico and/or Wagner may be coming back to CMLL. Last week, Leo Riano tweeted he had a “dream” of Cibernetico vs Mesias in CMLL. Add in the stuff from the WON the last couple of weeks, and it’s pretty clear CMLL is trying to get someone to come in (and Dos Leyendas would be the time to do it) and they’re not being very quiet about it. (Enrique’s talking about it because CMLL’s banned him, I believe.)

I would be absolutely floored if Wagner left AAA. Mildly shocked if Mesias came over too. It would be no surprise if Cibernetico wanted to move on now since he’s been dropped in the pecking order so far, but the CMLL hardcores would despise him. It could go worse than Electroshock’s CMLL run. Zorro was a guy I very much wanted to see CMLL bring over in 2009 and 2010, but one who looked totally disinterested in lucha libre the last year and not in great physical shape. He’s even more lost in the shuffle than Cibernetico and I’d totally believe he’d want to go to CMLL, but he’s earned his way to his current position and it’d be annoying for CMLL to put him on top without him making a few changes.

Metro says the idea to get a new name & look was his. He may have thought of the idea, but so did just about everyone else. (And lots of people have ideas that CMLL doesn’t exactly let them do.) Someone, and I can’t remember who, noted the design on the mask is very similar to Mascara Dorada’s Metalik mask.

At the Todos x el Todos press conference, Solitaro was annoyed the mask match with Santo keeps getting pushed back. It seems to me like Villano IV was added to this feud to give them another way out of doing the mask match they’re promoting (though I think the V4 mask actually means more than Hijo del Solitario or Angel Blanco Jr.), but we’ll see where they’re going next week.

An all star crew of “what happened to you?” are wrestling on March 2nd in San Antonio: Magnus, the (supposed to be) soon to debut Hijo del Espanto, Laredo Kid, Low Rider (somehow not on any of the big indy shows?) and Histeria.

El Consejo” posted a video of their antics at the last AAA taping. It’s a sub two minute long video package and Argos still manages to botch a move. He’s never going to change.

LuchaWorld has the newest Slammin’ Stan.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 02/24/2012 Arena Mexico
1) Astral & Eléctrico vs Pequeño Nitro & Pequeño Warrior
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Estrellita, Marcela vs Amapola, La Seductora, Zeuxis
3) Diamante, Dragon Lee, Triton vs Hijo del Signo, Namajague, Shigeo Okumura
4) Marco Corleone & Último Guerrero vs Felino & Rey Bucanero and Delta & Ephesto and Black Warrior & Rey Escorpion and Rush & Terrible and Pólvora & Stuka Jr. and Ángel de Oro & Psicosisand Hijo del Fantasma & Misterioso Jr. [natl pi, semifinal]

Okay, so I don’t know what “national” means, but that’s okay, neither does CMLL.  Marco & Ultimo are the overwhelming favorite to go the final. Atlantis and Ultimo Guerrero are magnets, you just can’t keep them apart right now, and Marco and Niebla seem to be matched up a lot too. The only other A-level teams are Rush & Terrible and Felino & Bucanero (not an increible pair!), but both of those teams seem certain to attack each other before the night is over.

  1. Hmmm, what is more shocking CMLL getting the AAA Latin America Champion to jump ship or AAA getting the CMLL Heavyweight Champion to jump ship.

Off topic question, any news or rumors regarding Alex Koslov returning to either AAA or CMLL?

  2. CMLL started about 5 minutes early. I guess that’s going to be the norm for these 55 minute shows?

  3. Volador/Mascara was pretty good. I wouldn’t call it great but it had a lot of dives. The finish was crazy to do in front of 100 fans in that arena. Lance Storm would not approve.

  4. @Damien: Zorro is not out of shape. He’s actually in better shape than Cibernetico.

I can see Cibernetico teaming with Terrible. When Texano Jr. was there her tried so hard to be Cibernetico, at least CMLL would have the real thing is this went through.

  5. Cibernetico in CMLL would be interesting. While he isn’t the best technical wrestler in the world, he is pretty charismatic, and he is a passable brawler. If he was willing to put in effort and CMLL was willing to give it time, I could see him working in a way. Like, guys are able to work around Porky’s limitations, so why wouldn’t they be able to work around Ciber’s? Charley Manson came in and was doing technical matches no one really knew he could do. If Ciber was brought in and told to fill the role that a guy like Strongman had, why couldn’t it work? The only real reason would be Ciber.
If I am CMLL though, I get it in writing before you use him in one match that he loses his hair in 2012 to Rush…

  6. @Chris: Good question. He never posts anything on Twitter, so I am not sure what he is up to, but he hasn’t been in NJPW since 10/29, and his last CMLL match appears to have been 7/30…

  7. @ChuckieChk: It would be more shocking for a guy who gets a major match on ever major show to jump then a guy who seemed to be an after thought. Titles are irrelevant if you (or the promotion) don’t do anything with them.

@Chris: CMLL stopped using StrongMan after business went way down in the second half of the year, so my guess was he was just more expensive than it was worth bringing in. Strong Man was also much more beatable his last trip in, so they could’ve been planning this way.

  8. But why isn’t Strongman working NJPW either? I’m kinda curious if NJPW was maybe footing a bit of the bill for him in CMLL, and with NJPW contracts always running from Jan 4th, if they didn’t renew his deal, and CMLL wasn’t willing to pay him enough (or at all) to keep him around. With his bodybuilding/strong man background, maybe he just went back to that, regardless of money. Between Mex/Japan, he was spending a lot of time away from home…

  9. Poor Jon Anderson. Now he just roams the streets pulling buses to their next stop for spare change…

  10. This may not be an easy question to answer, but out of Zorro, Cibernetico, and Wagner, whose jump to CMLL would cause the bigger spike in attendance? My guess would be Wagner?
