1) Enrique Vera Jr. & Starman b Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Marcela b La Seductora, Tiffany, Zeuxis
Tiffany is back from a four week injury. Tecnicas took 1/3. Marcela submitted Zeuxis to the tapatia, while the others had the star on.
3) Fuego, Metro, Sangre Azteca b Misterioso Jr., Namajague, Shigeo Okumura
Tecnicos took 1/3. Namajague was introduced to Metro’s German suplex.
4) Virus DQ Loco Max
Virus took the last two, the final fall via Loco Max foul. Nothing seems settled here.
5) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Super Porky DQ Kraneo, Olímpico, Psicosis
Maximo faked a foul from Olimpico, drawing a straight fall win.
6) Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Rush b Pólvora, Rey Escorpion, Último Guerrero

I saw a Japanese blog wondering if our new friend Namajague might be Dick Togo. The backstory they gave does put the character closer to Togo’s age than a NJPW trainee’s (though maybe we shouldn’t be taking CMLL stories that seriously.) Dick Togo was scheduled to be in Arena Aficion on Tuesday, not sure if he was there.

CMLL’s announced Ayumi’s return date is February 29th. That’s a Wednesday, so her first match will probably be on the Dos Leyendas March 2nd show. That hints there won’t be an Amapola/Estrellita hair match (which Estrellita is asking for), because it’s unlikely they’d have two women’s matches on a show. Prince Devitt is still listed as coming in “March”, exact date to be announced.

XMW held a press conference to promote their 02/19 show at Arena Aragon. It’s one of a weekend’s worth of shows Necro Butcher is working in Mexico. (Dick Togo was announced as not working the show because he’ll be in Guatemala; El Boricua will take his place.) February 19th is the same day as the X-Project shows, and the quotes from the press conference are mostly aimed at explaining why their show is better – cheaper tickets, women who turned down working the X-Project shows, and Perros del Mal wrestlers (X-Fly and only X-Fly.)

Rob has highlights of 06/30 AAA.

  1. What better way to please your fanbase than by having two women’s matches at Homenaje Dos Leyendas and keeping Atlantis/Guerrero/Panther/Negro in a midcard trios match! That is so CMLL I’d be stunned if it didn’t go down like that.

  2. What are the chances that Casas beats Sombra for that NWA championship, and at 2Leyendas we have a Casas/Panther title match?

  3. @Nikita: I was thinking the first part of what you said when I read the lineup originally but didn’t consider the second part. That sounds pretty reasonable though. They get away without doing the stip match but still give the fans the match. Hard to predict what CMLL will do as Casas/Panther may just get booked in Guadalajara that same day but I agree – I think Casas is taking the belt on Monday whether they do the title match at H2L or not.

(Hopefully the match pops up… seems like those two could tear it up.)

  4. They could save the Ayumi title match for a Tuesday show?

After reading the Art Bar bio in this weeks classic observer talking about how he was one of the highest paid stars when he died, i’m wondering Who is the highest paid star in Lucha now? I’m guessing it would be a guy like Wagner or LA Park.

  5. I don’t think Sombra’s losing because losing a title in Puebla is always unlikely. They could still do Negro vs Panther, for the first time as a three falls match, without including the title.

@Tim: Ayumi title match is unlikely for Dos Leyendas. Two women’s matches would be a trios with her in it and a separate Estrellita/Amapola hair match.

@Tim: Averno or Mesias might be the highest paid lucha guy last year, though I would guess in a normal week it’d be Wagner or Park.

  6. Wouldn’t the best way to figure out the highest paid be to find the guy that gets paid the most per match? I say that because I bet guys like Mesias and Averno made about the same in a year, but Averno probably worked a lot more matches.

  7. @Nikita: I picked Mesias and Averno because both would’ve gotten extra big bonuses for dropping their hair and mask at the biggest shows of the year for each promotion. I would expect Mesias gets paid more per match, but Averno works a lot more.

I do have the 2011 results stats bit done, but just haven’t posted it yet. I bet that’d help!

  8. There are probably main eventers in AAA and CMLL now making less than Art Barr was making when he died.

Barr made such good money because the peso was so strong, and the promotion had to “overpay” foreigners because of the crazy tax system. In 1993 former wrestling and journalist Dan Denton wrote an article in Amusement Business about Lucha Libre. Being a foreigner he touched on how he and others paid a 30% tax that Mexicans didn’t pay. So in order for Barr to make about $2,500 a week his gross before taxes would have to be about $3,500.

IINM, Barr died within days of the peso crashing and Televisa dropping financing and ownership of Televisa, leading to PROMELL then PAPSA being formed.
