recap

I thought this was not as good as expecting. There were matches worked in styles I didn’t like, and at least one of those were bad by any measure. Wagner vs Park was not a particuarlly good or memorable match, and this show really could’ve used one.

Mascarita Dorada, good in any ring

Mascarita Divina, Mascarita Dorada, Octagoncito vs Mini Chessman, Mini Histeria, Mini Psicosis part 2 part 3: good opener! A lot of técnico offense – the beatdown just seemed to last long enough split apart the técnico offense, but the técnico offense looked good. Not everything was perfect but enough was really good. Dorada seemed to have no problem meshing back in here, though it was interesting to see him to work primarily with Mini Chessman.

didn't notice until now - the bat shots look bat because the scary bat breaks it half during the swings!

Pimpinela Escarlata vs Sexy Star in a lumberjack rules match and in a AAA’s Reina de Reinas Tournament match part 2: This is the match when you decide you need to build the entire match around a showcase of someone’s offense, and that person is Sexi Star. She didn’t embarrass herself with the complicated stuff (the worst part of her match was hitting Pimpi with the strap at the end) but that’s not really the way to get the best out of Sexi Star. Sexi Star is almost all personality and very little wrestling, and so they did no personality and a lot of her wrestling. Pimpi can do both, and got to do little. This was not good.

the wind took them???
X-Fly running

Extreme Tiger & Joe Lider vs Nicho el Millionario & X-Fly Mesas Infernales part 2 part 3: There was some honest to goodness terrible professional wrestling here. I do not mean the luchador Terrible, I mean lucha libre of amazingly poor quality. Stunningly horrible. I think we all learned that trying to do a match where you light a table on fire, outside when it’s windy, is a bad idea, but it’s not like that was even the worst idea. That was the Joe Lider/X-Fly Spanish fly that totally missed it’s mark, that was the worst right here.

required chyron error

Chessman, D`Angelo Dinero, Gunner vs Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown:A fine match for two sides who had appeared to never met before this match started. Rudos seemed more comfortable doing very little complicated as to not misscommunicate, and everything the Clowns did that was elaborate was to Chessman (but the finish.) There was some mix up near the end, so this was all for the best. AAA was a lot better in remembering to pin the people who are never coming back (and didn’t really mean much in the first place) this time around. They kind of gave the impression this is not the end of Gunner, which is a bit unexpected.

required mascot violence - Cibernetico has the best reaction

Cibernético, Electroshock, Zorro vs La Parka, Octagón, Silver King: this was not a great match and maybe it wasn’t even a good one, but for what they had to work with here, it was perfectly. Octagon & Parka tried – they’re no good, particular Octagon, but they tried. Electroshock and Silver did the same match they do every time. Crowd still loves Cibernético.

"and here's our announcers, none of which appear to be watching the match..."

El Mesías vs AJ Styles: a (near) twenty minute match with about eleven minutes of slow warm up to get to that twenty minutes. Maybe this would’ve been more enthralling in front of a louder – or better miced – crowd, but it dragged so much for so long and never really picked up enough to make up for it. Crowd did seem to be invested in the win, so at least they got that, but they never quite seemed into Styles.

El Mesías vs Rob Terry: a Rob Terry dominated match. So there’s that.

life for Jack in Mexico
Fenix

Drago, Fenix, Jack Evans vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween, Héctor Garza: Had some concern this wasn’t going to be good after some other stuff on this card turned on to be a bid disappointing, but I had no problem with this. Seemed to be more a TV match than the semimain of a major show, but the rudos helped the técnicos look good doing their stuff and the Perro/Jack feud felt important. So much so that was odd that it just kind of got shoved aside at the finish. Fenix and Drago got to look good here, almost looking on the Perros level.

tremendous work by Toscano
2 for 2 with knucks this year

Dr. Wagner Jr. vs LA Park for the AAA Latin American Championship: Park won here with the knucks, same as he did back at TripleMania. They did play that connation up much, but I do think we’re supposed to be noticing it, and keeping it mind for some backfire coming down the road (2012?) This match itself was a LA Park vs Dr. Wagner Jr. match with a lot of Octagon and heel ref shtick, and not the out of control stuff one might expect from these two. It wasn’t near Mesías vs Park or Park vs Parka, it wasn’t the best match they had, it was fine for the occasion but nothing worth seeking out.
