Quick picks for Friday

I’ll be on Figure Four Daily tommorow to talk the anniversary show, the Congress Lucha show (which I’ve quite milked for content this week), and lots of other things in lucha. It’s a free show, so I’ll post a link here when it goes up.

Like I said, one of the things we’ll be talking about is the annivesary show. Rather than wait for a few hours before the show actually happens to make some picks, I thought I should briefly write them here. Friday night, when none of it actually goes this way, you can laugh.

CMLL (FRI) 09/29 Arena Mexico
1) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Marcela vs Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei

Tecnicas should win, but the story here is who gets the pin on Hiroka. I think the hair match challenge last week by Lady Apache was a typical spat of trying to get his heat back by challenging for a match which will never happen, and I believe Hiroka holding onto the title means they’re headed to Dark Angel winning the belt (but that may still take a while – like next March.)

I think this is the best possible CMLL women’s trios match, though Sujei hasn’t looked as good in CMLL as she did in AAA. From what I can tell, the people who care about this division wrestling-wise are me and me alone. Well, me and the guy who’s booking it. (I’m not! I think.)

2) Felino, Sagrado, Ultimo Dragon vs Alex Koslov, Averno, Mephisto

Uh, rudos, not that it matters. This one is here to get Sagrado over as much as anyone, I believe. (Which doesn’t work at all with my prediction. Never mind!) Quite possibly MOTN.

3) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Rey Bucanero vs Kenzo Suzuki, Marco Corelone, Olimpico

Dos seems due a pin back on ol’ Corelone. I wonder why he was left off the show to start with – maybe some MMA obligation he’s training for?

4) Dr. Wagner Jr., Groon XXX, Negro Casas vs Damian 666, Halloween, Mr. Aguila

Going out on a limb – this will not be a good match! Since they’ve explicitly said this is the Perros B-Team, I think the all star tecnico team has to win this. When this show was first announced, there was some surprise they were using Groon here, rather than save him for next week (or any week without a huge mask match.) It makes more sense considering the prices they’re charging for tickets (and PPV); even if Groon makes less of a difference, he’s going to be worth more on this show.

5) Hector Garza, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Shocker vs Atlantis, Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero [CMLL TRIOS]

I seem to be alone on this one, but I strongly believe the Guerreros team is winning this. I just can’t imagine the Perros winning this when they’ve already hinted at Shocker going his own way. The Guerreros have dominated this feud so far, which causes a bit of doubt.

6) Mistico vs Black Warrior [mask]

Yes, Mistico is winning, and he should, and the story will be everything besides the finish.

Who do you got?

4 thoughts to “Quick picks for Friday”

  1. 1. Tecnicas i’m pretty sure will win. I’m guessing Angel will pin Hiroka but the focus will be on Apache. I’m intrested in this division cause I like Angel and Apache.

    2. I’m guessing Ruods. Averno will get the win and look strong.

    3. Dos will look strong here but Marco will be dq’d after tearing Dos’s mask off. I think this will lead to a Caras/Panther vs Suzuki/Marco Masks vs Hair match.

    4. This is the match i’m most looking foward to because I love the Perros. Halloween will look strong and win the match for his team.

    5. GDI Will win the titles.

    6. I wish Warrior would win but he stands no chance.

I have low expectations for this show. I’m hoping 3,4,5,6 deliver.

  2. The card is so bland that making predictions is quite difficult. But here goes anyways…

    1) Tecnicas win the one fall match to start the night off with a pop. Apache gets her pinfall back on Hiroka.

    2) Tecnicos should take this very short match. I’d be SHOCKED if it went over 10 minutes for all 3 falls. Since Ultimo got moved down, he’s going to be given the win over Koslov. I ain’t picking this one for MOTN.

    3) I’m with Tim here. Jindrak will yank off Dos Jr.’s mask for the DQ. Bucanero will continue to be totally forgotten.

    4) Los Perros are not fans of jobbing but the team they put together here is definitely the B-squad that should have no reason taking pinfalls. With that said… Damian and Halloween will use weapons on Gronda for another DQ tecnico win.

    5) I’m taking the Perros Del Maaal as the next CMLL Trios champs. Why? Same reason I’ve stated a bunch of times before… CMLL has no long-term booking at all and never learn from past mistakes. So the Perros will get the belts and split soon afterwards. Another reason is if half the crowd will be Perros supporters – they are obviously gonna be real pissed off at the main event results so the promotion may try to appease(is that the right word?) them via the result of this match.

    6) Well this is a no-brainer. Hopefully Warrior is a pro and everything goes smoothly. I fear for Mistico though. From what I’ve been reading/hearing… this is NOT going to be his night when it comes to fan reaction. And we’ve seen in the past when a crowd turns on Mistico, his matches usually suffer big time. With the increased pricing and big show atmosphere, the crowd will be full of Perros fans and Guerreros fans. They better hope some families take advantage of that 2-for-1 deal or Mistico is gonna get boo’ed right from the start and god help him if he blows a spot early on.:/ I’ll go with Warrior taking the first fall with his leglock move. Second fall will go to Mistico with the somersault into a sunset flip. Third fall will have a spot where Warrior gets nailed with La Mistica but is close enough to the ropes for a break. He’ll proceed to low blow Mistico and get a 3 count, only Mistico will be in the ropes and the referee will wave the finish off. As Warrior complains, he will turn right around into another Mistica and submit. I may not be exactly right but I am predicting a totally overbooked finish like that.

As for match of the night, I’m gonna predict that goes to the semi-main. I’d pick the main but I think it will be hurt by the crowd reaction.

MISTICO! *clap clap clap* MISTICO! *clap clap clap* MISTICO!

BTW, there is a radio feed of the show tomorrow that I’m gonna try and catch. No Leafs pre-season game tomorrow so if anyone else is online perhaps we can find a chat room for live PBP/commentary.

  3. 1) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Marcela vs Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei – Apache gets the win back over Hiroka.

    2) Felino, Sagrado, Ultimo Dragon vs Alex Koslov, Averno, Mephisto – I think the rudos should go over here, w/ A&M looking strong. What will probably happen is Sagrado or UD getting the 3rd fall over Koslov

    3) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Rey Bucanero vs Kenzo Suzuki, Marco Corelone, Olimpico – Rey gets the pin in fall #1 w/ Bucastorm, Panther eats pin in fall #2, fall #3 is Dos getting the mask jerked or some other chicanery.

    4) Dr. Wagner Jr., Groon XXX, Negro Casas vs Damian 666, Halloween, Mr. Aguila – #1 – technicos get first pin (id like to see Doc, it will probably be Gronda getting the pin). #2 goes to Halloween (probably w/ Damien too), #3 will be Olimpico causing the DQ on Gronda. I totally see a Gronda vs Olimpico feud coming out of this, as they are the two most jacked guys in CMLL (Seriously, that will be the basis of the feud).

    5) Hector Garza, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Shocker vs Atlantis, Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero [CMLL TRIOS] – I would love to see GdI get the win here, but I’m thinking the company man UG eats the final pinfall to Shocker, setting up the split with Perros just like everyone is predicting.

    6) Mistico vs Black Warrior [mask] – I think this will go down about like Rob said. The best thing for business however, would be a nice clean Mistico win out of nowhere w/ Warrior looking strong all match, and especially in fall 3.

  4. Since I run #deathvalleydriver on the Starchat network on IRC, it can always be used for lucha PBP either on nights like Friday or the Saturday TV.
