CMLL (SUN) 07/23 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results
1) Destroyer b Idolo
2) Roxy, Silueta CO Atenea, Simply Lucious
3) Guero Loco, Magnum b Gallo, Metro (G)
After beating him for the win, Magnum wanted a mask mask with this Metro; Metro said no, but agreed to a title match for this week.
4) Emilio Charles Jr., Hijo de Pierroth, Malefico DQ La Mascara, Sagradao, Satanico
Hijo pulled his own mask, tossing it to La Mascara and drawing the third fall DQ.
5) Mr. Texas, Silver King, Texano Jr. b Mascara Ano 2000, Perro Ruso, Pierroth
Cien Caras Jr. got involved in the third fall, but the tecs still won clean.
6) Brazo de Platino b Asesino Negro [hair]
Didn’t realize this was a hair match. Cesar Dantes unsuccessfully tried to help fellow rudo Negro and ended up squashed. In response to this finish, Dantes challenged Platino to a hair match next week, which would seem to be the third straight Sunday with a hair match; that match is now on the card.

Obviously, something’s gotta be up behind the scenes in Guadalajara. Last Week’s Figure Four had a note about Apolo Dantes being removed as booker in the promotion, but the booking doesn’t seem to have changed all that much and his brother’s still in the top program. (Maybe the booker’s name changed but the philosophy did not?) Running three straight weeks of hair matches between aging rudos and tecnicos appears likes a grab for as much money as they can quickly get, but there’s surely more going on here than I can see thru results alone. Anyone know what the deal is?

IWRG (THU) 07/20 Arena Naucalpan Results
1) Black Stone b Golem
2) Ave Fenix, Kid Tiger b Black Jaguar, Carta Brava
3) Hijo del Pierroth, Magnum Project, Xibalva b Bacteria, Fabian el Gitano, Star Boy
rudo Bacteria replaced tecnico Marco Rivera, screwed up a dive early, and ended up turning on his team.
4) Felino, Pantera b Damian 666, Mr. Aguila [IWRG IC TAG]
In the final fall, the ref got bumped, and Pantera used a low blow to win. Wonder how Felino feels about that.
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Sagrado b Canek, Hijo de Cien Caras, Veneno
Dr. Wagner was going to do a top rope manuever to finish off Canek, but Rayo swooped in and took the pin. Canek proposed a triangle mask match between all three. Canek’s apparently a comedian now.

Ovaciones has a story about the Mexico RAW shows in September, tonight’s Arena Mateos Lopez taping (as previously) covered, and a note about Ayako Hamada being in Mexico for the next two months.

Ultimo Gladiador #2 (yet another magazine) promotes photos of the new Gronda and an interview with the man in charge of CMLL. I’d love to read that.

La Jornada has an article about a free outdoor lucha show in Mexico City, as part of a campaign to get a recount in the recent presidental election. Super Muneco, Gran Markus, Fantasma and Ringo Mendoza all are quoted about desiring a hand recount of the ballots. Main event was two caricatures of the candidates (I think) fighting the forces of Super Fraude. Good conquered evil. (More photos on the box y lucha forum.

the San Antonio Express has an article about a local backyard lucha group called XWA, which includes a 69 year old grandmother as one of the luchadors.

“It gives me great pleasure to get into the ring,” Alonzo said. “I’m going to keep doing this until I’m 100 years old.”

  1. Why is Sico Jr. main eventing and Soberano Jr. semi-main eventing? It continues to show how training in CMLL means nothing. All the guys who started with them and have been working shows for years don’t get the chance to move up while if you come from somewhere else, you are automatically pushed ahead. Where is my new 3rd promotion?

  2. So you’d have Trueno work the main? Don’t answer that.

CMLL was totally just trying to be fair to their fans; when a guy is missing from the main event, they’re trying to replace him with the closed man they can find to resemble the missing man (see Leono for Tarzan Boy.) Like, if Averno was MIA, they would’ve thrown in Ramstein – but if Averno & Mephisto were missing, then they put Caligula and Messala in the main event. Totally.

New wacky theory I just came up for Eclipse (in the odd case it’s not Rey Tiger): Anyone seen Hombre Sin Nombre? He’s not been around for three weeks, though he is booked Sunday.

  3. Soberano could easily have been inserted into Canek Jr.’s slot moving him up or even Dr. X. Not that I care for either of those guys getting a push but it makes more sense than Soberano working a semi-main.

Trueno was obviously the standby guy for the night but Lizmark or Felino should have been moved into the main event while the other guys are interchangable.

Of course I could just be pissed that we’re obviously getting a Sicodelico Jr. main event push soon with him Dos Jr./Liz Jr. teaming and that’s just another way to waste a match every week at Arena Mexico.

HSN is working up north as Safari for the time being. Definitely could be a candidate for the Eclipse role. I’m still sticking with my pic as some stupid foreigner they randomly find.
