Virus takes a title, Fantamsa wins!, AAA Triplemania conference

CMLL

CMLL (TUE) 06/07/2011 Arena Mexico [Cesar, CMLL, Record]
***Fan Apperciation Day, June (TUE)***
1) Apocalipsis & Semental b Soberano Jr. & Trueno
Rudos took 2/3.
2) Ayumi, Dalys la Caribeña, Marcela b La Comandante, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sugheit
Tecnicas took 2 & 3.
3) Fuego, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro DQ Arkángel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Skándalo
Straight falls, with Dr. X taking off Fuego’s mask again.
4) Virus b Guerrero Maya Jr. [CMLL SL]
Virus took falls 1/3 to win the title for the fourth time.
5) Hijo del Fantasma b Mr. Águila, La Máscara, Psicosis, Olímpico, Toscano, Metro, Ephesto [NWA LH, cibernetico, semifinal]
Elimination order was Ephesto (by Toscano), Metro (Olimpico), Toscano (Psicosis), Olimpico (La Mascara) and then Psicosis pulled La Mascara’s mask while La Mascara fouled Psicosis for the double DQ. That left Mr. Aguila & Hijo del Fantasma, and Fantasma advanced via the Phantom Lariat.

Even thought Guerrero Maya lost, he’s had a great couple of months.

CMLL (TUE) 06/07/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Relampago Azul b Meteoro
2) Robin & Virgo b Camorra & Evola
3) Demus 3:16 b Eléctrico
Single fall match.
4) Goya Kong, Lluvia, Luna Mágica b Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Tiffany
Lluvia beat Amapola, and will get a title shot next week.
5) Héctor Garza, Terrible, Texano Jr. DQ La Sombra, Máximo, Rush
Sombra filled in for the double booked Toscano. Tecnicos took 2/3, Garza fouling Maximo in the third.

So we know Amapola is defending this title here on Tuesday vs Lluvia, we know Amapola is defending the title vs Marcela in Guatemala in a couple weekends, and we believe Ayumi is getting her shot sometime really soon. Amapola sure is busy.

AAA TripleMania Press Conference

Yesterday’s press conference was more about creating footage and soundbites for media use than any new information. AAA actually didn’t announce a full lineup for the show ten days away, though we do finally have confirmation that the Perros/Bizarros and Secta/Circus matches are semifinals in the barely promoted tournament, despite the changing team members. At the press conference, AAA said the losing teams would also have matches on the big show. Since AAA announced the Bizzarros vs Parka match already (then pulled it back), everyone’s assuming the Perros and Psycho Circus have yet another match, this time for the AAA trios titles.

The one announced match change was Jack Evans & Extreme Tiger vs Abyss & Mr. Anderson for the tag titles will be in a cage match “to balance the weight advantage.” I have no idea how a cage does that. Sounds more like they just wanted to use their cage on this show. Probably would be a better show with Jack & Tiger in a ladder match (versus a good team) and Maniacos vs 187/Metal in a cage, but AAA surely sees differently.

Mesias, La Parka, Dr. Wagner, Octagon, Fabi Apache, Marisela Peña, and Joaquin Roldan were on the panel for AAA, with Konnan, Dorian Roldan, LA Park, Jeff Jarrett, Karen Jarrett and Velvet Sky all appearing in person for La Sociedad. Mickie James, Rob Van Dam, and Abyss did interviews all over Skype, which gave us Dr. Wagner doing a promo to a laptop monitor.  LA Park and Mesias provided the required brawl, and Zorro crashed the press conference to argue with Jarrett. Arturo Rivera also appeared, but still can not talk much.

Plenty of writeups: Record, Estrellas del Ring, R de Rudo, The Gladiatores, WagnerMania, Mi Lucha Libre (photos, video, Octagon) plus post conference videos on a special Tercera Caida.

Octagon’s mentioned as the year’s AAA Hall of Famer, with Abismo Negro being inducted last year. I totally agree that Abismo Negro should be in the AAA Hall of Fame and should’ve been in last year, but I can not recall that actually happening. Did it happen at TripleMania and I’m blanking it out? I’m honestly confused.

CMLL in Japan
06/18 NJPW
: Kushida [10] b Mascara Dorada [8] (6:25)

Dorada finished 2 points out of advancing, but in 6th place. About where we figured, a fine effort. Dorada & KUSHIDA team up on Friday in a non tournament trios match, then again in two weeks with Tanahashi in a trios tournament. In between, Dorada is probably appearing on the 06/18 NJPW PPV, though the match is TBA.

In other NJPW/CMLL news, this past week’s SuperLuchas touched on Okumura’s role as conduit between those two companies. They noted his dual role as an active wrestler creates an opportunity to manipulate things to his benefit (like getting himself booked on NJPW shows) and also allows him to play favorites; specifically, NJPW asked to use Volador Jr. earlier this year, and Okumura told them that Volador was unavailable. Given the absolute nothing Volador has been up to for the last six months, that does not appear to be accurate.

Other News

The Averno Is Not Going To WWE tour hit Luchas 2000 this past weekend, with both Averno and Jose Luis Feliciano insisting Averno was not going to the WWE and Rodolfo Ruiz apologizing for daring to suggest he might know his son’s employment status.  (He’s still going.)

Rafa el Maya is still in hospital, but out of intensive care. He suffered a heart attack on Saturday and worsened over night, but started to improve after a procedure. His family is unsure when he’ll be out of the hospital.

Buried at the end of this bit about Atlantis filling for Shocker in Forajndo un Idolo, there’s a mention that the two trios with the most points will meet in a final. So there are points!

IWL says their 07/03 show will be on PPV. Seems doubtful they’d be on regular PPV, but maybe an internet PPV? I kind of figured DTU would be trying something like that this year (just finding enough a building with bandwidth might be a hold up.) I will actually try to pay attention to IWL if this happens.

Sunday’s Arena Coliseo Monterrey show has Estrella del Oriente vs Guerrero Negro in a hair match.

LuchaWorld has Alfredo on CMLL Teleformula 06/05 and KrisZ’s news update.

  1. I would love to see Virus vs. Rush in the Universal tournament. I think Virus could really test him and bring the best out of him. I have all the respect in the world for Virus.

  2. Also, was the other semifinal announced and what are they gonna do with the middleweight title Averno has?

  3. @Adam: They have just announced the other semifinal!

    Sombra
    Rey Bucanero
    Blue Panther
    Atlantis
    Maximo
    Felino
    Sagrado
    Texano

  4. @Adam: And they haven’t said anything about plans for Averno’s title because they’re still going with the idea Averno is not going anywhere.

No one’s said exactly when Averno is leaving; he could stick around long enough to drop the title or lose in the first round of the Universal tournament.

  5. Fantamsa wins! This is totally unbelievable! I just impress dear. Hope he won once more time!

  6. Maybe Okumura doesn’t think highly of Volador Jr. Maybe Okumura believes that Volador is not worthy to wrestle in NJPW. I hope Okumura sends El Hijo del Fantasma to NJPW.

  7. @Arnold: Should Okumura have the right to make that decision? We don’t know exactly what the relationship is there, but it would seem like NJPW should get to decide who’s worthy to be in NJPW.
