1) Alan Extreme & Dinamic Black b Imposible & Muerte Infernal
2) Carta Brava Jr., Comando Negro, El Pollo b Eragon, Explosivo, Freelance
Pollo is now so evil, he’s teaming with the man who took his mask.
3) Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan b Negro Navarro & Trauma I
Navarros asked for a tag title match, and will get it next week.
4) Joe Lider, Nicho el Millionario, Último Gladiador b El Brazo, Oficial 911, Oficial Fierro
AAA squad won in straight falls in a hardcore match. Gladiator and Nicho got their backs ripped up. Brazo stepped out of the match after being hit with a chair. AK-47 (martinete last week, never moved again) tried to help, only to take a piledriver.

Only four matches. Not sure why.

Mistico

Every single sports section in Mexico might have an article on Sin Cara to WWE. Most are just the same notimex story, but it’s everywhere. Sin Cara was also doing a lot of TV interviews at the press conference. Did LA Park and Psicosis get this level of press when they left? SuperLuchas has video of the WWE press conference, and

Record’s Salvador Rodriguez, last seen claiming Mistico was talking to AAA before the Antontio Pena Memorial show (which does appear to be correct now), lays out a timeline for Mistico’s fall out with CMLL. Mistico was frustrated about not being able to take outside bookings and CMLL not running big matches and started to look for a way out in October. It’s kind of implied that Volador/Mistico not being resolved was the breaking point, but in the big picture, I think Mistico wanted CMLL to book more like WWE. CMLL’s top guys get a few big matches scattered thru the year, WWE’s top guys are getting big matches on a monthly basis.

The Gladiatores has video of the Panico and Guerrero del Futuro answering questions about Mistico at CMLL’s press conference. (JCR stands with them, saying nothing.) Panico and company seem unprepared for the volume of questions about Mistico’s departure. He know what he’s going to say, they’re just not ready for so many questions about it. Panico at first just stands at the side of the stage answer questions before the production people usher him into the center and the luchadors who are supposed to be in this big main event are just waved off the stage like after thoughts. (One of the production people seems to be waving to someone to get the Texano and company to leave earlier in the video, but no one picks up on it.)

Panico told the press that Mistico’s move to WWE couldn’t be for the economic reasons, but for sport reasons. I’m not sure how Panico knows what Sin Cara is getting paid by WWE when he didn’t even know he was getting signed by WWE, but calling your own promotion minor league is not the way to go.

Panico also seems pretty confident they can just grab another kid out of their school and make him a big star. (“No one is indispensable.”)  They probably shouldn’t have waited so long to do that! Panico says they’ll have their new Mistico soon. The timeline of Mistico’s contract seems to change during Panico’s Q&A. When asked, Panico says Dos Caras Jr. left on better terms than Mistico.

Estrellas del Ring has short video from Sin Cara’s press conference. CMLL Gaceta has interviews with Mr. Niebla,Virus vs Demus, and Brazos vs Terrible/Texano.

On Twitter, Jim Ross said Mistico is training in Los Angeles. They’re surely working on some vignettes and highlight packages, since they won’t be able to use the CMLL footage to introduce him.

Cesar rates the news sources on their Mistico to WWE news the last month. (This site doesn’t get rated; I can only assume there are no words in the Spanish language to adequately describe my level.) I can’t actually remember anything SuperLuchas got wrong, but I hope what people get out of this misadventure is a better understanding of what the magazines are trying to do in 2011. Luchas 2000 is a promotional device for a few promotions. Box Y Lucha appears to be holding on to relevancy by their fingernails and their history, who are more than willing to trade long term bad will over being misleading to sell a few more copies this week. SuperLuchas is trying to find the sweet spot between the old magazines and insider news, hoping that sweet spot actually exists. None of this is wrong as long as you know what you’re buying.

Dorian Roldan took to Twitter to congratulate Mistico, say WWE wasn’t interesting him, and campaign for a CMLL vs AAA show, to create something never to be seen before. (No.) If he really wanted such a show, asking for it on Twitter isn’t quite the way to reach them. Even their official Twitter-er wasn’t around yesterday.

Other news

CMLL is going to continue running shows. A daring move! Tonight’s Arena Mexico show has the final of the national tournament and a trios to set up the one announced for Dos Leyendas. Also, we get to see who Magnus dresses up as this week! SuperLuchas has the preview.

Not a lot of talk about Dos Leyendas. Estrellas del Ring has video from the non-Mistico segments. Terrible called Brazo de Plata outdated and Maximo “his daughter.” Virus/Demus and Dorada/Averno were left curiously undated. The feeling is, they’ll add one of those matches to Dos Leyendas only if they feel the fans aren’t buying tickets to the show in advance. In the meantime, they’ll focus on the main event between the two guys who’ve never lost a hair match and the family that always loses hair matches.

Arena Coliseo Monterrey Sunday was originally supposed to have Mistico/La Mascara vs Averno/Volador Jr. Then they were supposed to have Magnus/La Mascara vs Averno/Voldor Jr. Now, they may have nothing – a poster on LMdLL notes everyone but Magnus is booked on the Arena Coliseo DF show the same day.

Unlike La Mascara, Stuka Jr. is excited to team with Sangre Azteca.  He thinks the two of them could challenge for the tag team titles or reform Poder Mexica with a third.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Hey, it’s the main event of Dos Leyendas. I don’t think this will sell out. Maybe that’ll be a big enough sign to the people in charge.

  1. What annoys me the most about this “is Mistico leaving?” nonsense is that SuperLuchas reported it as FACT. What reason would they have to lie about something like that? Then you had Mistico not appearing on any CMLL shows and other credible sources who I won’t name reporting Mistico is WWE-bound. So did this story get accepted? No.

Instead one person made up a story about Mistico going to AAA, another guy said he was going to Japan and others said it was BS and that Mistico would stay in CMLL. No sources cited at all. Just random guesses by people.

So who did the majority of online Lucha fans side with? Clearly not the side that had the logical (and truthful) story. Everyone decided to believe the crazy rumors and refuse to acknowledge the truth that he had left for the WWE.

Don’t know why it bothers me, it just does.

Watching Panico as that press conference did nothing to change the theory of most that he is a total goof who is beyond out of touch with what year it is. He just comes off as completely clueless and we know it isn’t because he’s just doing Paco’s dirty work bc NEWSFLASH: Paco Alonso couldn’t be bothered to attend the press conference announcing the departure of the bigest star he has had in many many many years! Must have been a bodybuilding contest going on somewhere else.

Maybe the best thing to come out of this will be a change in bookers a year or two from now if Paco ever sobers up and realizes Panico is a numbskull. (Doubtful)

  2. The video from the CMLL press conference is amazing. Not because of anything that was said, but just for seeing the stars who will be main eventing the next big show waved off the stage so that the booker can take questions about a departing star. Not a good sign for CMLL.

I thought that JR mentioning that Sin Cara “has many new masks” on twitter was interesting. Maybe the plan is for him to wear a variety of masks instead of being limited to the Mistico/Averno styled one he wore at the press conference? That would be another take on the Sin Cara name. Or maybe Mistico just entertained Ross by showing off his mask collection.

  3. There has been a bit of “Hey, Ocampo was right! We should totally listen to him next time” on message boards and such, which was nice to see.

Thinking about it now. They should’ve had Panico and Guerrero del Futuro talk about the Mistico situation before the official press conference started. (Probably with a prepared statement to lead off, which would imply some preparation.) Get it over right away, make sure the press conference ends on the topic they want it focused on, and you can always cut off the questions early by just insisting you’ve got to start the actual press conference now.

I think Sin Cara is going to have a lot of different color combination to his gear, but he’d be less identifiable if he kept changing the shape of them.

  4. On a non-Mistico note is is great to see Escorpion in the semi-main in GDL against Valiente no less, hopefully he shows that is where he belongs and just goes base crazy.

Also a Stuka and Sangre team with a third could be tons of fun, trying to think of a teammate though, maybe Guerrero Maya?

  5. @Alan: I mentioned that as well via twitter. While everyone was pointing out the whole Mistico discussion no one from Mexico pointed out how they blew off the 4 guys in the supposed main event. It made all four of those guys look bad.

It kind of reminded me of when they have post-game interviews for other sports and you can tell who the star is when he gets all the questions and the other guy is just sitting there listening.

@thecubsfan: I could see them changing the mask/outfit every 6 months or year to sell new merchandise. I don’t think they’ll do it often.

  6. Clearly CMLL would have been well served to have addressed Mistico long in advance of this. Even their originally scheduled press conference would have felt like a late response, but would have come off better than this. The sad thing is, they clearly didn’t spend any of the time in between coming up with a better story. They seemed to think that Brazos vs Terrible/Texano would be enough to distract everyone. As cubs pointed out yesterday, having the 2Leyendas press conference any day other than yesterday would have probably helped too.

I feel bad for the luchadors involved that the company put them in that position. Of course, I feel even worse for Mephisto and Fantasma who some how went from sure fire 2Leyendas main event (probably with others being thrown in) to not even being invited to the press conference. I’m excited about Virus vs Demus, but surprised that CMLL decided that feud was more deserving of promotion than something they had spent a couple months building. Does anyone know what happened there?

  7. @Alan – My guess is that suddenly that match is a bigger deal than it was a few months back, and they decided to spend some time building it up. I think we were going to see a Fantasia/Mephisto/Vernon/Mistico match similar to last year when Felino lost… and without Mistico to draw….

  8. @Nikita: That’s as good of an explanation as any. But, if you are going to spend some time building it up, why not hype it at your big press conference and put them in a high profile match at your next big show (even if it isn’t the main event mask match)?

  9. Sounds like CMLL didn’t want to acknowledge Mistico leaving to begin with, and were probably hoping (as stupid as it sounds), Mistico would show up in WWE under a new name and mask, and the casual fans would have no idea.

Of course, then WWE threw their press conference into the mix, and they had to respond.

  10. Another thing bugging me about the “new Mistico” speech is they – unintentionally or not – belittled their entire roster. Instead of pushing that they didn’t need Sin Cara because they could put create someone new in the suit, they should’ve claimed they didn’t need to replace Mistico because they have Sombra & Dorada & Volador & Rush & Terrible & Texano & Maximo (guys in the main event!) who are just as big of a stars. CMLL is selling those guys as the biggest stars in the country already, they need to be talked about that way all the time. I think they wanted to emphasis that CMLL can create stars, but they could’ve done that a whole lot better by pointing to stars they’ve creating rather than a hasty promise to put a rookie in a familiar mask.

  11. This Maximo/Porky vs Terrible/Texano match at GDL on Tuesday is just so damn stupid. I mean, at least put it on Sunday so it doesn’t air. Why would I wanna watch the Dos Leyendas match when I can watch the GDL match and it will probably be the same match except for Maximo dropping his hair? At least he should since the whole going to AAA thing went public.

This whole New Mistico thing just reeks of the New Bronco(Silver King version)

  12. @Alan: I agree that they should have done a press conference sooner. I don’t think they knew the entire story regarding Mistico until word leaked that he signed. I don’t think Mistico is the one who told them which makes it harder for CMLL. Mistico probably did not have the heart to tell them that he signed and may not have been honest with “the office”.

As for Mephisto vs. Fantasma, this shit happens all the time. That could be the main at Anniversario though.

The main even is so weak that CMLL would have been wise to do a multi-man cage match. A cage match with Fantasma, Mephisto, Dorada, Averno, RUSH, Texano, Maximo and a few others would have been a bigger draw.

  13. @LLL: You still going to 2Leyendas? I can’t say that I’m too sad that this will be the first one I’ve missed after seeing three in a row.

  14. quick question why does negro nevarro and his kids appear in black letters.
    red=rudo
    green = technico
    what does black =

  15. @mattw: I’ve had the going for at least two weeks and you’re the first person to comment on it. That sort of entertains me.

black is kind of the color that lack of any color, so those that are black are those who appear to lack any tecnico/rudo alignment. They’ll fight rudos, they’ll fight tecnicos, they’ll fight each other, they don’t seem to actually care what side they’re on.

Only IWRG guys are listed in black so far – Cerebros, Terry, Navarros, and Veneno.
