Ultimo Guerrero gets Atlantis’ mask, kind of

CMLL (SUN) 09/21/2014 Arena Coliseo [thecubsfan]
1) Metatrón & Star Jr. b Akuma & Cholo
Tecnicos took 2/3, where Star Jr. was the best man in the match
2) Eléctrico, Stukita, Último Dragoncito b Mercurio, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito
Tecnicos took 2/3. Pierrothito took off Stukita’s mask in the second by accident, Dragoncito beat Pierrothito in the third.
3) Boby Zavala, Kamaitachi, Okumura b Fuego, Hombre Bala Jr., Pegasso
Rudos won, taking falls 1/3. Kamaitchi unmasked Fuego and covered him for the win.
4) Stuka Jr. b Hechicero [lightning]
Stuka torpedo splash in just over nine minutes
5) Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone, Super Porky b Misterioso II, Pierroth, Sagrado
Tecnicos took 2/3 in a bit of a brawl.
6) Atlantis, Valiente, Volador Jr. DQ Mephisto, Rey Escorpión, Último Guerrero
Tecs took 2/3. UG ripped a fan’s Atlantis mask during the match, and later fouled pulled Atlantis own mask for the disqualification. Volador got Atlantis a mask from a fan too but UG also destroyed it. Atlantis was given a third mask. The tecnicos covered him up and Ultimo Guerrero stormed out the front door (and to the WMC show…)

Fun show live. Crowd was very into the main event, with the support for Guerrero louder than Atlantis. Fuego and Kamaitachi looks like a fun feud.

Arena Coliseo was a fun venue to see lucha in; fans are loud and right on top of the ring. Also, if you are an autograph or photo hunter, the wrestlers enter right next to the fans. Get there early enough and you can see everyone.

(Terra will be up later.)

Next week’s lineup:

CMLL (SUN) 09/28/2014 Arena México
1) Robin & Sensei vs Akuma & Espanto Jr.
2) Cachorro, Pegasso, Starman vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Skándalo
3) La Vaquerita, Princesa Sugehit, Silueta vs La Comandante, La Seductora, Zeuxis
4) Fuego vs Kamaitachi [lightning]
5) Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, Rey Cometa vs Cavernario, Hombre sin Nombre, Pólvora
6) Diamante Azul, Máximo, Rush vs Euforia, Terrible, Thunder

Fuego/Kamatachi happening. Maximo returns. Main event should be interesting for Thunder against those tecnicos.

Atlantis/Ultimo Guerrero, other notes

update notes: one more podcast tonight whenever we get back from Arena Coliseo. Maybe a quick results post tonight depending on the time. Two more Lucha80s reviews should auto post in the next day or so, but probably not any news on Monday. The Tuesday video post is being pushed back to the evening to give me enough time to actually get it done.

Most of the links I have today are Anniversary reaction pieces. LuchaWorld has a recap of the Anniversary show from the stream and Phil did live reviews at Segunda Caida. All the videos I recorded are here.

Atlantis is thrilled to still be masked. Ultimo Guerrero says he isn’t going anywhere, and wanted to use the Atlantida during the match but never quite could get it. He’s also open to hair match feuds.

Black Terry Jr. has video of the finish and Rob has a ton of videos of the show on his Instagram.

La Copa, Cronicas y Leyendas and ESPN Deportes have articles about the meaning of the finish. Los Colisenos talks about where this places Atlantis in history, while La Cathedral calls it a one match show. SuperLuchas says Barbaro Cavernario is the future of CMLL. FWIW, the rumor going around Mexico is he’s back to the full “Barbaro Cavernario” name due to complaints from Cavernario Galindo’s family.

The Ultimo Guerrero/Atlantis results did make the cover of newspapers. No magazines out yet – they’re all supposed to be out on newsstands Monday morning, just before we leave.

Last night, Hechicero made a surprise appearance on the ChilangaMask show in Guadalajara to challenge Black Terry for a match. That’ll happen the next time they run in Monterrey, I believe. Hechicero took a 6 hour bus ride all the way to Guadalajara just to make the challenge, then took the bus all the way back. (CMLL luchadors are prohibited for working for anyone but Arena Coliseo Guadalajara in that town.)

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s Friday news update and KrisZ’s Saturday news update.

ProWrestlingWave says Mary Apache is coming to their 09/23 show.

Hijo del Fantasma says he doesn’t understand why Aerostar is getting a Cruiserweight title shot – he thought Aerostar gave it up to fight Super Fly instead – but he’ll retain the title anyway.

Ohtani’s Jacket writes about Villano III

80s Lucha DVD set, disc 2 (part 1 of 3)

Again, part of this project is you have to buy the DVDs, so I won’t be giving links to any of this. You’re also supposed to post your thoughts (which I’m doing, just not in the right place) and rank them all (which will require me finishing 8 more DVDs at a slightly faster clip.

This batch includes
Atlantis vs. El Satanico (1984)
Mocho Cota vs. Americo Rocca (1/27/84)
