09/27-09/30 lucha videos

Noches de Coliseo remains in reruns. The current C3 is off the (iffy at best) webfeed; we’ll have the normal show later on.

Note CMLL did not air the mask match in Mexico on TV. I would bet they still have no idea if it’s airing on TV Azteca or not.

I don’t understand what’s happening with WWC. Is the Sunday morning a rerun? An additional episode? (The normal Sunday show is cut off just about half way because Comcast was messing with my cable.)

Sombra/Volador (again), NGX, Lucha Undergrond ladder match

CMLL (MON) 09/29/2014 Arena Puebla [Periodico Enfoque, Periodico Enfoque (Fotos)]
1) Black Tiger & Rey Samuray b Akrón & Ares
Rey Samuray is listed as Samurai in the results (so they may have cut down one Rey.)
2) Leono & Soberano Jr. b Policeman & Toro Bill Jr.
Policeman first match here in 11 months came in a loss.
3) La Comandante & La Seductora b La Vaquerita & Lluvia
Originally scheduled to be Estrellita (c) vs Zeuxis for the MEX WOMEN title, but Estrellita pulled out due to a rib injury.
4) Misterioso Jr., Sagrado, Tiger b Ángel de Oro, Stigma, Stuka Jr.
Tiger replaced Skandalo. Misterioso pulled Stuka’s mask.
5) Diamante Azul, Máximo, Super Porky b Cavernario, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush b Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr. [Relevos Increíbles]
Volador and Sombra feuded, with Rush & Mascara helping Sombra cheat to win.

Nitro replaces Skandalo today, so it looks like Skandalo is out with a mystery injury. Volador/Sombra has been going for a long time but has nothing on Misterioso and Stuka – they were facing off before he even was Misterioso.

NGX (SAT) 09/27/2014 Gimnasio Factores Mutuos, Monterrey, Nuevo León [LuchaMania Monterrey]
***Death Before Dishonor***
1) Neurosis b Armaggedon
2) Epydemius b Demenzía, Ultimo Ninja
Good match. Epydemius beat Ultimo Ninja with a Canadian Destroyer. Neurosis attacked Demenzia after the match.
3) Hooligan Byron & Xtreme Dragon b Black Spyder & Psicotico
Very good. Xtreme Dragon flew off a high place in the building to land on Black Spider.
4) Cachorro Zapata & Optymus b Alberto Del Dos Rio & Difunto I
Tedious mat wrestling for the first half of the match (this crowd wasn’t here to see that style but it was also not interesting in that style) with the older partners strangely rooting for the younger guy on the opposite side for no obvious reason. It picked up in second half after Difunto smashed a bottle on Zapata’s head. Optymus took the same, and both members of the team left the match (at different times) for moments. Cachorro beat Difunto for the win.
5) Necro Butcher b Nicho el Millionario, Joe Lider
Necro’s NGX debut (though he’s wrestled here for other groups.) Necro hit himself with a chair before the match and was already bleeding before he got to the ring. Hardcore brawl as expected. He surprised Nicho with a cradle at the end.

After the match, Nicho criticized Sick Boy and Pagano as “Internet Luchadors”. Sick Boy was in the crowd and does not look happy on the video. This seemed like a set up to a Sick Boy/Pagano vs Lider/Nicho tag match but it’s tough to tell with NGX.

Today’s CMLL show has the Reyes del Atlantida vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas and Niebla Roja in the main event. That could be good and, since they’re currently bereft of feuds, could be the start of a trios title program.. The lightning match, which should be on CMLL’s YouTube site soon after it takes place, is Tiffany vs Princesa Sugehit.

An interview with the new Hell Brothers confirms they’re against all the tecnicos and all the rudos (and with neither side.) It’ll go better for them than the Dark Family.

Video report on Sunday’s indy show with CMLL wrestlers in Ciudad Juarez. Pagano was telling people they sold 2,000 tickets to the show, which is really good for any wrestling show anywhere.

Johnny Mundo announced Saturday’s Lucha Underground taping will have himself vs Big Zeke vs Prince Puma (Ricochet) in a ladder match. That sets up from the street fight from this previous Saturday’s show. Advertising matches people want to see ahead of time is a smart move. That’s the first four hour taping and perhaps they’ll wait until the end of the show to have it.

This week’s AAA TV only aired two matches from the latest Hard Rock show in Cancun. I was told – by people who know these things much better than me – that AAA might end up splitting that taping into two tapings and unwisely ignored it. All the airdates for AAA should be figured to go back one week. Maybe that even explains why Heroes Inmortales looks like a one show taping? (That’d be the first 1 week taping since early August.) If you count Heroes Inmortales as the first week of the build to Guerra de Titanes, AAA will have between 5 and 7 weeks to set up the year end show.

LuchaWorld has LuchaWorld Podcast #33 on Lucha Underground and the 81st Anniversary show.

Ohtani’s Jacket reviews Negro Casas vs Ultimo Dragon

Mascara Sagrada Jr. & (a) Mascarita Sagrada were thought to be missing in Tabasco; they wrestled there on Saturday and when they didn’t turn up back in Mexico City on Sunday, people thought they may have been kidnapped. They weren’t, they just got drunk.

There’s an exhibition of lucha libre artwork in Veracruz.

CMLL’s top 10 has Mephisto #1 and Esfinge #10. This might be the only week where Esfinge ever makes this list.

Lineup

CMLL (MON) 10/06/2014 Arena Puebla
1) Meyer & Paris vs Centauro de Fuego & Fuerza Chicana
2) Astro Aéreo Jr. & Último Dragoncito vs Blue Center & Demus 3:16
3) Asturiano, Dragon Lee, Oro Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, King Jaguar, Siki Ozama Jr.
4) Ángel de Oro, Rey Cometa, Stigma vs Misterioso Jr., Sagrado, Skándalo
5) Máximo, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Ephesto, Hombre sin Nombre, Mephisto
6) Volador Jr. © vs La Sombra [NWA WELTER]
Volador’s first defense on this reign.

That’s (known) singles match #20 between Volador & Sombra since August 30th, 2010, not including all the other interactions. It’s their fifth singles match this year – they’re running them every even numbered month now – and the fifth time they’ve done this match in this arena. They’re tied two to two here.

This feud is in the weird middle ground where it’s over enough that they keep going back to it but not over enough where they feel the need to protect it from losing it’s specialness. There’s not as many Negro Casas/Rush matches. The Sombra who ends up in Durango during the Anniversary show sure isn’t winning this match.

Segunda reminds me that CMLL could’ve pulled in a couple Puebla regulars to get a full 16 person field on Sunday’s Arena Coliseo Minis #1 contenders cibernetico.

Canada defeats Mexico 2-0, Ninja Turtles arrival imminent

IWRG (SUN) 09/28/2014 Arena Naucalpan [The Gladiatores]
1) Araña de Plata Jr. b Sky Ángel
straight falls
2) Metaleon & Saruman b Atomic Star & Freyser
3) Apolo Estrada Jr., Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo b Diva Salvaje, Dr. Cerebro, Miss Gaviota
straight falls. Gringos have passed over a year of being Mexico State champions.
4) Hijo De Dos Caras, Súper Nova, Veneno b Canis Lupus, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000 Jr.
Hijo de Dos returned. Tecnicos took 2/3 though the third fall finish was confusing. Mascara had Dos down and covered him for a three count according to referee Sonrisas, but referee Reyes Rosas ruled Dos got a shoulder up in a time. Confusion followed, and Dos suplexed Mascara for the win.
5) Demon Clown DQ Cien Caras Jr.
Mexico vs Canada! Demon Clown jumped Cien, who was not really helped by Mascara hitting him with a chair by mistake. Demon took the middle rope splash for the second. Ref Rosas was taken out in the second fall, leading to Mascara coming in to help beat up Demon Clown, but the ref came too and DQed the Capos. Straight falls for Demon Clown. Cien, having lost in two falls, challenged Hijo de Dos for a title match and Demon for a rematch. Dos appeared to accept the title change.

A proud day for Canada! I wonder what Demon Clown’s fantasy hockey team is called. My interest in this main event program begins and ends with Demon Clown’s Canada-ness. I would suggest IWRG not try to book Hijo de Dos on 10/12. Just play it safe.

Gringos VIP attacked Dr. Cerbero during interviews, so that feud is still going. IWRG has a few set ups of big matches (for IWRG) but there’s no real idea of when they’ll be doing them now that September is over. They also have the annual Halloween cage match show about a month from now.

The new Ninja Turtles appeared before the crowd and it was announced they’ll debut next week. Not a big fan of the new designs, but the movie designs weren’t so great so maybe they’re accurate. They’re IWRG opening match guys getting a new gimmick.

Tonight’s CMLL show in Puebla was supposed to be Zeuxis challenging Estrellita for the Mexican Women’s Championship, but Estrellita is out with a rib injury. The Puebla paper who covers the shows says she’ll be out two weeks. (That match felt like a routine Estrellita defense when it was announced, but I’m now a lot less sure about that.) The actual main event is Ingobernables versus the odd team of Ultimo Guerrero, Gran Guerrero and Volador Jr.

The ColiseoMania show drew a big crowd last night in Arena Coliseo Monterrey. They say they’ll eb back on 11/02 for a Arena Coliseo 59th Anniversary show.

ChilangaMask added Fly Warrior, Karma, Electro Boy vs Oficial AK47, Oficial 911, Kastigador vs Astro Rey Jr., Benji Maverick, Psico Kid (as the Guardians of the Galaxy) to the 10/25 Coacalco show and the Indystrongtibles trio of Impulos, Arez, Belial against Monterrey locals Xtreme Dragon, Dralion and Rey Orion to the 10/26 Arena Solidaridad show.

10/12 AAA TV Lineup (San Luis Potosi)

AAA TV (SUN) 10/12/2014 Domo San Luis, San Luis Potosi, San Luis Potosí
1) Dinastía, Faby Apache, Niño Hamburguesa, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Eterno, Mamba, Mini Abismo Negro, Taya Valkyrie
2) Angélico vs Jack Evans, Joe Lider, Hijo del Fantasma ©, Bengala, Aerostar, Súper Fly, Steve Pain [AAA CRUISER]
Hijo del Fantasma’s second defense
3) Monsther Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Averno, Chessman, Cibernético [street fight]
4) Myzteziz vs La Parka, Blue Demon Jr., Australian Suicide, Zorro, Pentagón Jr., Fénix, Daga [Copa Antonio Pena, lumberjack]
5) El Mesías & El Patrón Alberto vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & Texano Jr.

Air Date: 10/25 – and only one week, because it’s surprisingly only five matches? They do make it up in volume of people in those matches.

This show only slightly follows from recent TV, but Alberto wrestling in his first big match in front of his home town crowd was always going to be the big draw. Tickets went on sale already, run from 903 to 91 pesos ($67 to $7USD), and the two most expensive sections are already sold out (or at least not available on TicketMaster.) This entire show is the first step to Guerra de Titanes, and the main event should be the first step to Alberto/Texano.

past Copa Antonio Pena winners
2007: Charly Manson
2008: Mesias
2009: Cibernetico
2010: Aerostar
2011: Electroshock
2012: Texano Jr. (and then vacated by DQ)
2013: La Parka

La Parka has a good chance of winning this for a second time, though Myzteyz and Demon also figure to have chances to win (and Zorro could use a reason to exist; he’s barely been around this year.) It’s a weird assortment of guys, with Fenix, Daga, Pentagon and Suicide usually existing in a different universe than other four guys, and boosted out of the previous match to give other guys a shot.

The Hell Brothers being matched up with the Psycho Clowns give both sides something to do. It seems like a setup to a trios title match between now and December, depending on what the plans are for Blue Demon.

Twenty years from now, someone’s going to be looking thru AAA results in 2014 and be totally confused about us saying Steve Pain was ever gone. He gets the missing title shot from TripleMania (now just missing Eterno), and Bengala and Aerostar go from being sad about failing on their shots to getting another one right away. Such is life in AAA. If the cruiserweight title is meant to mean something, Fantasma should hold it for a lot longer, but it’s unclear if it’s supposed to mean anything. The match should be chaos. Aerostar & Super Fly will be at each other and Lider gets to do the prop violence he missed out on last multiman match.

Sounded like a very forgettable show. Star Jr. appeared to be a last second sub since he didn’t have a mask. (You can’t quite find Star Jr. masks on sale outside either.)

If you build a match at the Anniversary entirely around getting Thunder over as a dominating force, you probably shouldn’t have him losing for no particular reason 9 days later. Thunder’s going to fail, everyone but the people in charge of actually making decisions realize that at this point, and nine to eighteen months from now he’s going to be gone and how they booked him will be no matter…but there still will have been a lame match on the Anniversary show instead of something fun that could’ve been used to get over people who will actually matter to the promotion long term.

CMLL (SUN) 09/28/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) El Yaqui b El Tapatío
2) Acertijo & Évola b El Brillante & Javier Cruz
straight falls
3) Demonio Maya b Leo
4) Sky Kid & Smaker b Magnum & Ráfaga
Tecnicos took 1/3
5) La Sombra & Valiente DQ Ephesto & Mephisto
Tecnicos took 1/3 when Mephisto fouled Valiente. Valiente demanded a rematch.
6) Titán b Gran Guerrero
Titan took 2/3 to beat Gran Guerrero again.

Hooray for Titan continuing to win. He’s 8-3 in singles matches (at least in Mexico the US) this year. Meanwhile, Mephisto can’t just leave Valiente alone and that’s going to cost him eventually.

Rey Misterio Jr. was hanging around the Lucha Underground taping Saturday; Drago had a photo posted with him before taking it down. There’s no real change here: Rey’s going to be on the show as soon as he’s legally allowed and WWE is going to make him wait as long as possible to be legally allowed.

This weekend’s DTU tour has Paranoiko won the Consgrados championship from Ovettseen Aeroboy become #1 contender to the Alto Impacto title and Los Nerds not only taking their first loss, but being destroyed by Los Malkriados and their new leader Calibus.

Mil Mascaras won in his latest return to Tijuana. More interesting to me is the segunda, where Patera Azteca and Toxik went to a draw with Rayn Kid & Super Boy when the commission stopped the match. It’s not said why, and I’m interested to know what can get a match stopped in Tijuana. Semimain seemed to set up an XLAW tag title defense.

Lineup

CMLL (SUN) 10/05/2014 Arena Coliseo
1) Soberano Jr. & Starman vs Cholo & Disturbio
2) Eléctrico vs Demus 3:16, Pequeño Olímpico, Bam Bam, Stukita, Pierrothito, Mercurio, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito, Pequeño Nitro, Fantasy, Aéreo, Acero, Angelito[#1 Contenders, CMLL MINI]
winner gets a shot at Astral
3) Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, Super Porky vs Hombre sin Nombre, Rey Escorpión, Vangellys
4) Diamante Azul, Rush, Volador Jr. vs Cavernario, Negro Casas, Shocker

I count 17 current CMLL minis: Astral (champ!), Pequeno Violencia (hurt), Pequeno Universo (fat) and the 14 guys in the match. Pequeno Universo should show up, still think ther’es a good shot he gets in the match. Olimpico was champion for two millennium and has to go thru a cibernetico to get another shot, that seems unfair. I’m betting on Demus.

That appears to be Cavernario’s first ever Arena Coliseo main event, which is neat. (He’s main evented some Tuesdays but no Sundays.) Cavernio’s ‘s probably stuck with Diamante Azul, which is not great. Can they trade Panther and Azul?

CMLL (SUN) 10/05/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Reyko vs Relampago Azul
2) El Divino vs Thunder Boy
3) Smaker vs Infierno
4) Exterminador, Javier Cruz Jr., Leo vs Acertijo, Évola, Jocker
5) Dragon Lee, Maléfico, Titán vs Gallo, Mr. Águila, Sádico
6) La Sombra & Valiente vs Ephesto & Mephisto

Looks like another Mephisto/Valiente match?
