02/21-23 lucha videos

I’ve got the missing AAA matches from last week included.

I missed the first match and part of the second in HD from Friday’s Terra show. I did get those matches in Alta, so that’s what I’m using on Daily Motion (where it’s tough to tell the difference.) All the links I have are below.

The TVC Deportes feed was down Sunday during Puebla. It came back up Monday and I’ll attempt to find the replay (though it’s not listed on any schedule at the moment.)

Lucha Azteca started late and I didn’t get the whole show. This has kept a couple times now.

IWRG on Saturday aired the post match argument of the second Skayde/Terry cibernetico, but not the match itself. This was so annoying to me and there’s nothing to get out of the post match so I haven’t posted it. They never aired the Oficials vs Alan/Veneno match and I don’t know why.

Noches de Coliseo match may be new, or maybe I mislabled something previously?

I’ve upload a bunch of 2006-2007 CMLL 52MX episodes to http://www.youtube.com/user/luchablogvault. I had a lot of slightly older stuff on luchablog account that I hope to get up at some point. I can’t find my DVD of Mogur vs Leono. I do not think I broke it.

recap

maybe don’t try this with Diamante Azul

taped 2014-01-17 @ Arena México
Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Super Porky vs Ephesto, Euforia, Pierroth: Edited version of a not good match. Guerrero Maya versus Euforia could be fun, but they’re split up to give Super Porky & Pierroth have someone decent to work with and definitely not do much with each other. Pierroth remains bad, kneeling in the ring for a minute (instead of getting out or selling), waiting for his next spot. Ephesto seems to screw up a senton to end the first fall , Delta overshoots his moonsault; there were plenty of other problems with this match. I still can’t figure out how Ephesto gets cut in this match.

Averno, Rey Bucanero, Terrible vs Blue Panther, Diamante Azul, La Máscara: Right team won, at least. Unnoteworthy match except for Diamante Azul nearly killing himself in the third fall. Azul hasn’t been around much and hasn’t used that time to get more interesting, but just taking the normal stuff was a big problem for him. First fall seemed edited (or Averno sent a new personal record for speed of losing to Mascara) and second fall featured Terrible transporting from the ramp to the center of the ring on a camera switch.

Atlantis, Shocker, Valiente vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas: This one starts off as build up to Mr. Niebla & Atlantis (building up a match I already watched, oops) but Shocker and Negro Casas are the more interesting battle and the one that decides it. Shocker has since become a rudo so I guess that match probably wouldn’t happen, but I hope they find a way to it anyway. Shocker looked much more energetic versus Casas and they did enough to make a singles match really interesting. This match was very short for a main event.

related people in CMLL

The last Dr. Lucha podcast (subscriber only) included a brief musing about how many wrestlers are related to other people in CMLL, sometime frequently talked about. Alfredo turned this to a challenge. I’ve actually done this bit before, but I wanted to have another Monday afternoon post. That’s how the magic trick works.

There are 131 luchadors who’ve had at least one match in Arena Coliseo or Arena Mexico in the last 90 days. Skandalo’s still waiting to get medical cleared after an eye injury but could be back at any point, so let’s call it 132. This is the breakdown

47 are unrelated to any known luchador
12 are related to known luchadors, but they’ve never been in CMLL
20 are related to known luchadors who have been in CMLL at one point, but are not working for the promotion at the moment
29 are related to known luchadors who are in CMLL right now who are unlikely to have influence on the product
24 are related to known luchadors who are in CMLL right now who could have some influence on the product

40.2%  (51) are related to someone else who works in CMLL.
55.3% (72) are related to someone who’s worked in CMLL at some point.
only 30% are unrelated to anyone.

Alan & Veneno keep tag titles

IWRG (SUN) 02/23/2014 Arena Naucalpan [IWRG]
1) Hip Hop Man & Sky Ángel b Matrix Jr. & Power Bull
2) Dowki, Hanaoka, Hijo De La Bestia b Dragón Celestial, Emperador Azteca, Látigo
Latigo was strechered out.
3) Apolo Estrada, Espartaco, Tupac Amaru Jr. b Ángel Del Amor, Chico Che, Golden Magic
Espartaco’s debut. Apolo Estrada feuded with Golden Magic, beat him, and wants a title match.
4) Alan Extreme & Veneno b Oficial 911 & Oficial AK47 [IWRG IC TAG]
Veneno & Alan Extreme came in as champions. Oficals took the first, then got caught fouling the rudos in the second. 911 knocked down referee Capu in the third, 911 fouled Alan and covered, and 911 heard someone count three – but it was Veneno, not the ref. Veneno fouled 911 when he went to celebrate and put Alan on top for the win. Second defense.
5) Eterno, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, X-Fly b Lizmark Jr., Relámpago, Súper Nova
Rudos took 1/3. Nova was about to beat Eterno when X-Fly distracted him, and Eterno took advantage to for the win. Eterno & X-Fly took Nova’s mask after the match.

Black Terry Jr. has photos of Sunday’s Fusion show at Arena Ichiban. Note CMLL fringe roster member Camaleon on the same show AAA fringe roster member Magnifica main evented. These things are happening more often, probably because work is harder to come by.

Rob has a highlight of Valiente & Mascara Dorada’s insane dives from last Friday.

The high fee for the NOAH tryout is to pay for the winner’s ticket to Japan, according to the official release. That seems like something NOAH should be paying for themselves but whatever. Those random Americans mentions as working in Arena Lopez Mateos and AULL are also trying out, and I can only imagine the unhappiness if a non-Mexican won the Mexico NOAH tryout.

Principe Dragon took Rebeldia’s hair in Pachuca.

Zumbido puts his hair up against Astuto’s mask in Nuevo Laredo next weekend.

recap

taped 2014-01-21 @ Arena México
Dragon Lee, Pegasso, Star Jr. vs Cancerbero, Hechicero, Raziel: Good match, more entertaining than most matches at this position. Hechicero fit in well with the Cancerberos; maybe too well, because they’re not moving up any time soon and Hechicero should be on a higher level. Going with a wacky swing based offense was as neat as the first fall mat work. Star Jr. definitely looked better than Dragon Lee at this point, though Dragon Lee really lowered the bar in the third fall. Don’t try to repeat your blown spot with Cancerbero or he will destroy you! (Credit for Dragon Lee for getting a takedown in on the bigger man, and credit Raziel for backing up his partner and settling things down.) This match was also weirdly entertaining for both Hechicero and Dragon Lee learning the weird CMLL tag team rules – Hechicero was totally confused as to why his tag wasn’t legal in the first fall, and Dragon Lee had no idea why he was being yelled at for helping make a cover.

flying cat attack

Black Panther, Cachorro, Valiente vs Felino, Puma, Tiger: Another good match in this feud. Valiente & Felino brought something different than Panther & Casas, but it still worked well. Puma & Tiger seemed to control most of the match and looked good doing so. Died laughing when Puma and Tiger did their series of crackers and powerbombs on Valiente – and then didn’t bother to pin him. Had to get in their pose! Cachorro & Black Panther still look very good for rookies. They were more limited here and they’re going to have to face someone besides Puma & Tiger at some point, but that feud is working well for them right now.

#superkick/suplex

La Máscara, Rush, Titán vs Terrible, Vangelis, Virus: Titan learned an important lesson here: don’t touch Virus’ hair. This a very good/borderline great match. First fall was superb and the rest of the match went along at a good pace. It never got off track and didn’t have many bad moments. Virus and Titan actually didn’t feel like they fought as much as I’d expect to set up next week’s match, but most of the match was building to just that and was sharp enough to want you to see it. Rush was great just teasing getting into the ring. Rush and Terrible was on against each other too. If they ran another Terrible/Rush hair match, I don’t know if it would draw better, but it would feel twice as big at this point.

flying Terrible

Blue Panther vs Negro Casas: Probably the best match on a lot of other Tuesdays but not this week. Their brawling was good but not as good as other brawls, and the match was hampered by the referee inserting himself in the action quiet a bit. It made more sense when they were doing actually illegal spots later on, but he was breaking up holds from the start and the repetitive intervention hurt the match from having any rhythm. I guess they’re building to a genuine no disqualification match here, should they actually be building to anything specific, but it made for a frustrating match here for most of the time. They seemed just to be getting into a long end game when the run-in happened. Crowd was not into the match as much as you’d expect, but very much into the post match feuding.

#superkick/suplex, the sequel
Negro Casas floored
