Mephisto and Electrico win titles, CMLL in Zocalo?, LEGEND, holiday schedule

***LEGEND 10th Anniversary Show***

2) Candy White, Chik Tormenta, Sexy Violeta b Barbie, Princesa Ahy Leen, Sexy Flor
Candy White replaced Big Mama.
3) Epidemia b AramisDinamic Black [GALLI CHAMP] highlights (posted by tvluchadelpasado)
Aramis replaced Aeroboy and was first out. Epidmeia beat Freelance to keep the title.
4) Epitafio, Leviatham, Tormento b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
Tormento replaced Samael. Epitafio snuck in a foul on 911.
5) Danny Boy & Rocky Santana b Gran Apache II & Romano Garcia [losers advance]
Santana beat Apache
6) Romano Garcia b Gran Apache II [hair]
Garcia snuck in a foul on Apache to win and take his hair.
7) Canek & Villano IV b Dr. Wagner Jr. & Rayo de Jalisco Jr.
Appeared to be a four way, turned out to be a tag match with Villano IV replacing LA Park (who was in the building at one point and had an issue with the promotion.) Canek’s team took 1/3.

Results from a month ago (that I’ve had sitting around for weeks, oops.)

A Box Y Lucha recap also hints at Park problems with the promoter and left. Konnan, a few weeks ago on the MLW Radio podcast and part of a tangent about how hard LA Park is to deal with, mentioned a recent show where LA Park walked out on a promoter when the promoter balked at LA Park letting in a multiple groups of people in free. It appears to have been this show, judging from what’s hinted in those magazine recaps.

CMLL (MON) 08/12/2013 Arena Puebla [El Popular, Porra Fresa]
1) Akuma & Ares b Águila Egipcia & Bengala
Rudos took 2/3. Akuma submitted Bengala.
2) Asturiano, Pegasso, Starman b Fuerza Chicana, Hooligan, Siki Osama
Tecnicos took 1/3.
3) Boby Zavala, Namajague, Shigeo Okumura b Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa
Namajague beat Delta. Best match of the night.
4) Blue Panther, Máximo, Rush DQ Averno, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
Straight falls, with a lot of Averno/Panther & Negro/Rush fighting. Averno fouled Panther for the DQ.
5) Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero b Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
Guerreros took 2/3, with a Pulpo Guerrero on Escorpion next week. Ultimo challenged Escorpion for a CMLL LH title shot next week.

CMLL  Gaceta hypes the Averno/Panther match here, saying Panther was left crying. Both discuss having their hair match on the Anniversary show. I dunno about that, but it does sound like Panther should be prepared for an Averno appearance on Friday.

No big photos of the building, so I presume attendance was back down to more normal levels. Porra Fresa notes this is the last week of summer vacation, and both recaps say there was a bad rain storm.

CMLL (TUE) 08/13/2013 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Espanto Jr. & Súper Comando b Metatrón & Soberano Jr.
Soberano replaced Bengala, Super Comando replaced Guerrero Negro Jr.

3) Ángel de Oro, Stuka Jr., Titán b Boby Zavala, Misterioso Jr., Sangre Azteca
Tecnicos took 2/3.
4) Eléctrico b Pequeño Nitro [MEX LIGHT, final]
Electrico took falls 1/3 to win the vacant championship, the last with a cavernaria. This is his first title iwn.
5) Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Taichi DQ Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja
Straight falls. Niebla Roja stole Dragon Rojo’s mask for the second DQ. Rojo wanted a singles match.
6) Último Guerrero b Rey Escorpión
UG too falls 1/3. Guerrero Special for the win.

Electrico is the 50th champion (as best we know.) Maybe they’ll do some Demus vs Electrico matches when the rudo comes back, based off Demus blaming Electrico for his injury (and also those probably being a lot of fun.) Electrico seems like the guy who was going to win this title from Pierrothito eventually, they just did it without him. Still no idea what’s up Pierrothito.

Rey Escorpion probably should get his win back in Puebla on Monday.

Taichi posted on Twitter about how Dragon Rojo used have great abs and now is just horrendously large. (He guessed more than 100 KG.) He didn’t seem to know what happened, but it’s been apparent for a few weeks. Rojo is now wearing a shirt.

Fearful of a Tiffany/Goya Kong feud.

CMLL (TUE) 08/13/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Pequeño Olímpico & Pequeño Violencia b Astral & Shockercito
Rudos took 2/3.
2) Bárbaro Cavernario, Disturbio, Ráfaga b Black Metal, Starman, Stigma
Rudos took 2/3.
3) Felino, Puma, Tiger b Diamante, Rey Cometa, Sagrado
Rudos took 1/3, Puma beating Cometa with a casita in the third.
4) Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Super Porky b Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Pierroth
Tencicos took 2/3, Porky splashing Pierroth
5) Mephisto b La Máscara [MEX LH]
Mephisto took the first, Mascara the second, and Mephisto beat Mascara with his own campana to win the match and the title. La Mascara falls on his tenth defense.

Back in 2009, Mephisto picked up the NWA Welterweight Championship from Sombra during CMLL’s short lived return to Acapulco. It was one of a few changes in a short time and eventually was figured out to be CMLL sorting things out before the first CMLL Universal Tournament. This appears to be the same bit, four years later.

Annoying CMLL Universal Math: CMLL can have up to 18 eligible champions at a time. (This is insane.) Lyger’s not coming, so they have 17 champions for 16 tournament spots. That’s enough for 1 double champion, but not 2, so either La Mascara or Mascara Dorada had to lose a belt (or they just had to change the rules again.) Mascara lost, so they’re good. This plays into Sunday’s title match – if Terrible wins, he’s a double champion, so he or Dorada would have to quickly lose on title before the tournament is announced. The Universal tournament first block should be announced as soon as Friday, so it seems very unlikely the field is going to change much.

Still, there’s probably some meaning behind Mephisto being the one to win a title (they like him!) and La Mascara being on the drop it (??? – he just ran his course with this title and they have more plans for other defenses?) The timing also seems a bit last second; maybe there was a plan for Lyger to come over and they had to hurry to find a solution. Or hurry to settle on one – the started/forgotten Hijos del Averno vs Estetas del Aire and Namajague vs Mascara Dorada feuds could’ve solved this same problem if they had ended in title changes.

This might be the first non-televised title change since that Acapulco title change. We don’t even have a photo of this one.

Haven’t found full results from Queretaro, but Sombra says he kept his title over “Smurfette” Volador. Does that mean Sombra is Gargamel?

This week’s SuperLuchas (#507) mentions in the back page news column that many rumors suggest CMLL has gotten the sponsored show in the Zocalo away from El Hijo del Santo & TxT. This is the show Santo has been saying would have the Santo/Park/Wagner mask match. This is actually fantastic news for Santo if he can spin it right – it did not look like he was actually going to be able to put that match together, but now he doesn’t have to and ‘evil’ CMLL gets blamed instead of Santo. (Santo does miss out of getting to claim 100k+ fans ‘watching’ his show, which may bum him out a bit.) SuperLuchas goes on to suggest CMLL may have agreed to do one of their signed but undated matches on this show as part of the switch.

Not that running a show in the Zocalo is necessary a happy business move. Tinieblas Jr. angrily posted on Facebook that he still hasn’t been paid for the May show he ran there. He says the company responsible for putting on the show, “Empresa Via Universal” gave him a check that bounced, hasn’t made good, and warns whoever is putting on the 09/21 show should not do business with this man. Tinieblas Jr. himself has been accused of shady (at best) business practices in the past, just that people are mad.

The same issue of SuperLuchas says big shows are expected for 09/16 in Arena Puebla, Arena Lopez Mateos, Arena Naucalpan and Arena Mexico. That’s a Monday, so CMLL and IWRG are probably not running their usual Sunday shows. RCH previously announced they’d be running Arena Naucalpan on that day. Crossing my fingers the shows run at different times than usual to allow for double header (and for still plenty to do on Sunday.) Not sure how it”ll affect CMLL on Terra.

DTU and Monterrey sources are starting to put out details of DTU’s northern shows this weekend. No full cards yet, but probably matches announced on Tercera Caida tonight and then the cards after.

Rob has highlights of 07/12/13 CMLL.

Bill has highlights of the latest TxT show.

Blue Panther hypes his match on Friday.

Cronicas y Leyendas looks back at Wagner Jr. vs Pierroth,

Next Sunday’s Arena Coliseo Monterrey is supposed to be a “final” retirement show for Jerry Estrada.

La Parka doesn’t like Parka Negra because Parka Negra is a clone, an imitation, a fake La Parka. Wait a sec…
