02/23-24 lucha times

box.

== AAA ==

AAA-Televisa: Remainder of the Pachuca taping. Both the main event and the women’s match were promoted for this week. They’re also promising a Roldan/Roldan/Roldan discussion, so perhaps only enough time for two matches. That probably leaves little time for the minis match and the Drago/Fenix/Octagon vs Consejo/Pentagon trios. They both set up matches on the next taping, but either are on the two hour show or will be skipped entirely.

Interestingly, that Univison Deportes two hour show is listed as airing Saturday, directly after the Televisa show finishes up. If that’s the new episode (and not really late rerun), that’s a good slot for it. It’s only listed as a one week deal, no Thursday replay this week.

AAA-Fusion: rerun this week, new episode next week.

== CMLL ==

Galavision/Televisa: Guerreros vs Atlantis/Mascara/Porky, more Stuka/Namajague and a lightning match.

US Galavision is only airing this overnight this week. In the past, this has meant they just air a rerun, but they did air the new episode last time around.

FOX: Women’s trios and Sombra/Volador in the finals of the Reyes del Aire. This does not air this weekend in the US, but there are two airings next weekend so maybe one will be a repeat.

52MX: Bufete del Amor vs Invasors, Namajague/Stuka.

C3: Panther/Azul/Porky vs Felino/Negro/Escorpion.

GDL: Shocker/Sombra/Valiente vs Averno/Niebla/Volador

TVC Deportes (Puebla): the return of Mistico, Panther/Shocker/Stuka vs Misterioso/Morphosis/Olimpico

Terra: the return of Mistico, and more Stuka/Namajague

== Other ==

IWRG-AYM Sports: they’re back to airing same day shows, so Rayan vs Dinamic Black title match.

IWRG-TVC Deportes: tonight’s show that’s happening now.

Noches de Coliseo: random matches from Coliseo. Maybe the XMW match.

DTU (TUE) 02/19/2013 Arena Aficion [Hidalgo SportLa Copa]
***Ajuste de Cuentas***
3) Nino Hamburguesa & Tacubo b Azteca & Dragon Yuki
Mexico vs Japan. Los Masizos interfered to try and cost Hamburguesa and Tacubo the match as part of their long running bulling campaign, but Crazy Boy ran them off and again said he’d be returning soon.
4) Flamita b EitaEternoTribalHormiga [DTU AI]
Elimination match, with Flamita beating Eita to win the title.
5) Joe Lider b Black FireDemente ExtremeFantasma de la Ópera [DTU CONSAGRADO]
Joe Lider retained the title.
6) Solar I b Negro Navarro
Crazy Boy worked as referee. Solar won via arm submission.
7) Aeroboy & Violento Jack b Cíclope & Perro Mocho Jr. and Drastik Boy & Pesadilla
Mat was removed from the ring, and they wrestled on the wood planks. Usual hardcore match. Violento Jack and Aeroboy removed some of the planks so Violento Jack could piledriver someone all the way to the floor. Aeroboy beat Drastick Boy for the win.

Joaquin Roldan announced Rey de Reyes would take place Plaza de Toros Monumental de Monterrey on 03/17. That was a big home for lucha libre shows up thru the 90s, and less so after Monterrey lucha libre scaled down.

Possible in not a coincidence: Mistico and Mr. Niebla are headed to Monterrey on 03/19. The Tuesday ACM cards are listed as being televised, for whatever it means.

The Santo/LA Park/Blue Demon/Rayo de Jalisco/Atlantis/Hijo de Rey Misterio show in Chicago’s Congress Theatre drew a reported 3,500 sell out.

Big Neurosis led his team to victory in Monterrey.

Rob has highlights of the first Antontio Pena Memorial and the the second Antonio Pena Memorial.

Dark Angel faces Cheerleader Melissa on Pro Wrestling Revolution’s show this Saturday in San Fransico for their vacant women’s title. Blue Demon and Pequeno Halloween are also on the card.

La Vaquerita says she was the last person trained by Diablo Velasco. There’s at least three different people who are the last person trained by Diablo Velasco. She talks about being part of CMLL, and says she been told there’s a possibility she may go to Japan for 3 months for REINA. It’s been a while since REINA has brought any of the CMLL crew over.

Texano, Silver King and Octagoncito took part in a event for a charity that supports children with heart disease.

Taya and Jennifer has a confornation with two fitness women who are being taped for reality a show (and so was this bit, I’d guess.)

A new lucha libre documentary will open Friday in Puebla and featured particpationg from the Tigre Rojos and Dinamakoo.

The upcoming AAA & CMLL spot shows in Arena Queretaro will have tickets ranging from $300 ($25 USD) for front row all the way down to $50 ($4 USD) for kid’s bleacher seats.

Arena Vidal in Chetumal, Quintana Roo is reopening this weekend. The opener includes a Pequeno Sahori.

Lineups

IWRG (SUN) 02/24/2013 Arena Naucalpan
1) Fly Star & Galaxy vs Electro Boy & Epidemia
2) Freelance & Hijo del Pantera vs Alemán & Fulgore
3) Centvrión, Chico Che, Golden Magic vs Alan Extreme, Cerebro Negro, Imposible
4) Canis Lupus, Carta Brava Jr., Decnnis, Scorpio Jr. vs Dr. Cerebro, Pantera, Trauma I, Trauma II
5) Rayan vs Dinamic Black [IWRG IC WELTER]
Rayan is champion. Second defense.

Wasn’t quite sure if IWRG was running a Sunday show, because they were slower than usual to announce it. It’s a good looking card. Not sure how the title match is going to go, that match seems to have come out of nowhere.

Tercera Caida’s mentioned the Galaxy from Queretaro is injured. I believe the IWRG Galaxy is a different guy, but I’m not sure. Guess we find out. Fly Star and Electro Boy are making their first appearances in a while.

CMLL (TUE) 02/26/2013 Arena Mexico
1) Génesis & Robin vs Camorra & Guerrero Negro Jr.
2) Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Nitro, Skándalo
3) Camaleón vs Stigma, Soberano Jr., Höruz, Hombre Bala Jr., Akuma, Espanto Jr., Herodes Jr., Cholo, Bobby Zavala [Sangre Nueva, semifinal]
winner faces the 03/05 winner on 03/12.
4) Delta vs Negro Casas [lightning]
5) Ángel de Oro, Diamante Azul, Super Porky vs Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero

Last year’s tournament had Titan, Dragon Lee, Cancerebro, Triton, Hijo del Signo and Raziel, guys who were pretty established in the 2nd/3rd matches by that point. This is more balanced bracket, though Zavala and Bala have accomplished more than the rest here and Stigma has been booked higher. I think Bala is the slight favorite.

CMLL (TUE) 02/26/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Metatrón & Virgo vs Exterminador & Magnum
2) Esfinge & Gallo vs Bárbaro Cavernario & Maléfico
3) Astral, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito vs Demus 3:16, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr. vs Namajague, Rey Escorpión, Shigeo Okumura
5) Máximo, Shocker, Thunder vs Averno, Mephisto, Terrible

Shocker continues to fill up on Guadalajara bookings. The Namajague/Okumura vs Cometa/Stuka feud makes an appearance here. Pierrothito and Ultimo Dragoncito with no barrier to stop them, be careful where you sit.

IWRG FILL (TUE) 02/26/2013 Arena Naucalpan
1) Charly Boy & Dragon Blanco vs Payaso Extremo & Skrull Metal
2) Aviador, Príncipe Azteca, Principe Rojo vs Atomic, Hijo Del Rey Terko, Smog
3) Alas de Acero, Fly Star, Ranchero vs Blue Monsther, Matrix Jr., Power Bull
4) Ángel Del Amor, Apolo Estrada Jr., Seiya vs Araña de Plata, Fulgore, Picudo Jr.
5) Alan Extreme, Centvrión, Dragón Celestial, Eita, Eterno, Galaxy, Imposible, Serpiente de Oro vs Boycot, Flehyzer, Holkan, Jhon Crazy, Kiuby, Mr. Leo, Rey Tabú, Vuelo Espacial [Copa Higher Power]

Flehyzer used the same spelling for two weeks in a row, hooray! I’m thinking of putting a big $2 bounty for anyone who can get a photo of Flehyzer holding up a sign with his correct name spelling. This is of course the Konkreto/FILL feud continuing. Odd to see Apolo Estrada Jr., who’s been around for years, working a trainee show.

2Leyendas: Stuka/Cometa vs Okumura/Namajague, Estrellita/Amapola, Universo/Rayo, more

CMLL held it’s first press conference in many months to announce some plans for 2013.

The big news was the announcement of most of the Dos Leyendas card, to take place on March 15th. As Tercera Caida revealed last night, the main event is Namajague & Okumura vs Stuka Jr. & Rey Cometa with the losing team giving up their mask and hair. There will be a second apuesta match, with Estrellita and Amapola facing off in a hair match, in a feud that’s been focus on since late last year.

The luchador honored on Dos Leyenda will be Rayo de Jalisco, as Yahoo Deportes reported earlier this week. Rayo de Jalisco Jr. appeared at the press conference to talk about his father, but was confronted by Universo 2000 as part of their never ending feud. They fought, and agreed to a match on Dos Leyendas. It’s probably part of a short run for both, who will also be working the Villano V retirement show that Saturday. There had been a rumor that Universo (and Mascara Ano 2000) had been upset with CMLL when they left last time, but it’s clearly been worked out.

Rayo talked some more after the press conference (the only time they press can actually ask questions is if they catch the people in the parking lot, so press conference isn’t really the right phrase for this event.) Rayo said he’d want it to be a singles match with Universo, but it’s up to Universo accepting and the promotion to make the decision. Trios match is the safe bet, Rayo just can’t back down from a singles match. That’s the third announced match.

The fourth match will be the finals of the Torneo de Parajes Incredibles. It returns from 2013, running from 03/01 to 03/15. As with last year, there’s no regional aspect to it. It’s not strictly rudo/tecnico, but definitely two luchadors who won’t normally get along. Teams announced at the press conference:

  • Mephisto & Mascara Dorada – Mephisto promised to be professional.
  • Maximo & Mr. Aguila – who seemed to get along
  • Dragon Rojo & Niebla Roja – a Revolucionario & a Guerrero
  • La Mascara & Averno – oh no
  • Rush & Terrible – almost won this thing last year before the inevitable.

11 teams to go! In theory, CMLL should be using the final to set up the Anniversary main event, since they’ll probably draw their biggest audience of the year so far (and all the fans they want to come back in six month’s time.) It’s just very unlike CMLL to pick an Anniversary match in March and stick with it for six month, but they did pull it off with Rush and Terrible. Atlantis/Ultimo Guerrero seems like a good bet for one of the finalists.

Overall, this seems like four matches on the level of Puma/Cometa last September, but no Rush/Terrible to go with it (and even Rush/Terrible didn’t draw great.) They’re going for quantity of important matches rather than quality, and that hasn’t worked well in the past. We don’t know ticket prices, but this doesn’t look like a big house.

Thunder will not be part of the tournament, and will not be on Dos Leyendas. His debut in Arena Mexico was announced for March 29th. It does set them up for having attractions after Dos Leyendas. Mistico, who was one of the top stars in CMLL at some point in the recent past, was not mentioned.

CMLL announced another Sangre Nueva tournament. Last year, Dragon Lee won it, and it seemed to be an odd mix of opening match guys and established midcarders. The lineup announced so far this year is strictly opening match guys.

As always, there was a big focus on the long length of the promotion and upcoming events based on anniversaries. Arena Coliseo turns 70 this year, and their anniversary show will take place on April 7th. Arena Mexico is 57 this year, and will have it’s own anniversary show on 04/26. The 80th Anniversary received a lot of attention as well, with plans for murals and photography exhibits (but no date announced.)

Recent Arena Coliseo Anniversary matches
2012/69th: Ultimo Guerrero vs Shocker
2011/68th: Rush vs Rey Bucanero [CMLL LH]
2010/67th: Mistico vs Atlantis
There doesn’t appear to be designated ones prior, though there’s matches you could go back and designate as such.

Recent Arena Mexico Anniversary matches
2012/56th: Bufete del Amor vs TRT [CMLL TRIOS]
2011/55th: Ultimo Guerrero vs Hirooki Goto [CMLL HEAVY], though Mascara/Sombra/Rush vs Averno/Niebla/Casas was actual main event
2010/54th: Felino vs Mistico
2009/53th: Negro Casas vs Mistico [CMLL WELTER], Marcela vs Rosa Negra [mask]
2008/52th: Hector Garza & Mistico vs Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]
2007/51st: Mistico & Negro Casas vs Perro Aguayo Jr. & Mr. Aguila [CMLL TAG]
2006/50th: Mistico & Negro Casas vs Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG], Dark Angel vs Amapola [hair vs mask]
2005/49th: Damian/Pierroth/Halloween vs Wagner/Mistico/Casas
2004/48th: Terrible vs Mascara Magica [hair], Zumbido vs Super Crazy [hair]
2003/47th: Shocker vs Vampiro [hair]

The Arena Mexico match is usually a significant match, and often a title one. CMLL only runs cage matches in Arena Mexico, so if there’s something that way with Metalico and others, April 26th is the date. The Arena Coliseo show is probably not as significant a match.
