5) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., Oficial Factor

Crosby appeared on the most recent FILL show. Jhony Rivera is a new name but wouldn’t he have to be one of Tony’s students? A Luger has appeared on Hidalgo area shows since 2004, was on Arena Aficion shows from 2007-2011 and was last spotted in NWA Mexico. First time Zumbido’s back here since 2009. Oficials Elite may have officially gone rudo (this promotion probably has enough of those.) Semimain is IWRG rudos vs AAA Milicia.

6) Euforia, Rey Bucanero, Terrible b La Máscara, Máximo, Rush
Euforia beat Maximo with the Euforica Special to give his team the win. TR wants their title shot next Friday.

At Thursday’s Todo x el Todo press conference, Hijo del Santo again introduced his son (as “Santo Jr.”, not Nieto del Santo.) The Santos had said they were not certain if Santo Jr. would become a luchador, but now Hijo del Santo says Santo Jr. is getting there. Before he wrestles his first match (in TxT), He’ll have to go thru training with Solar, maybe some additional special training in Japan, and prove to Hijo del Santo & the press that he’s ready to carry the name.

Fuerza Guerrera walked out before they really got started, annoyed with El Hijo del Santo & Huracan Ramirez (who he faces next week.)

A group of CMLL’s mini rudos were interviewed about what they’d match they’d like to see for the 20th Anniversary of the Pequeno Estrellas division. Demus suggested a triangle unification bout between himself (DF Light), Pierrothito (MEX Light) and Olimpico (CMLL Mini), and a show with only minis on it. Pierrothito said he’d have no problem with that title match, but also suggested a three way mask match between himself, Ultimo Dragoncito and Pequeno Olimpico since they’ve been there since the start. Pequeno Black Warrior’s idea is a sort of Gran Alternativa of minis with mixed teams – minis with full sized counterparts. He wants to team up with Black Warrior and face of versus Negro Casas. These are all amusing ideas which will not actually happen.

La Quebradora talks about the new wave of Pachuca luchadors.

Porra Fresa celebrates two years of the blog.

I’m out before the CMLL lineups are up today. Next Friday will include the first two Busca matches, and it sounded like last night that the trios title match is taking place on that show, but they’ve been a bit unclear on it.

IWRG, Mexico preview, CMLL internet show

IWRG (THU) 04/19/2012 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), Estrellas del Ring, The Gladiatores]
1) Templario & Tonatiuh b Imperio Azteca & X-Devil
Imperio and Tonatiuh are back after a long absence. X-Devil is a new debut.

3) Carta Brava Jr., Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II b Chicano, Dinamic Black, Saruman
Rudos took 1/3.
4) Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. b Toscano, X-Fly, Zumbi
Pirates took 1/3. Toscano & FdT had problems leading to their loss.
5) Bestia 666, Damián 666, Halloween DDQ Angelico, Trauma I, Trauma II
Said to be one of the last FdT appearances of Halloween. Rudos took the first, tecnicos took the second, Damian fouled Trauma I while Trauma II fouled Bestia 666 for the draw finish.

IWRG also posted a recap of Bestia 666 defeated Joey Kaoz in MEXPRO.

Today’s Arena Mexico show rewards the best finishes in the Gran Alternativa. Winners Euforia & Terrible team with Rey Bucanero to face La Mascara, Maximo and Rush, which also doubles as a preview for the impending trios title match. Runner ups Triton & Atlantis team with Sombra in the semimain, taking on rivals Ultimo Guerrero, Dragon Rojo and Negro Casas. UG and Dragon’s campaign for most successful defense has been put on hold by Dragon Rojo’s injury, but perhaps this match will spark a new challenger. Black Warrior & Rey Escorpion reprise their feud in the tercera. The lightning match has Namajague’s biggest match yet, taking on Valiente in a much anticipated encounter. Yoshihashi was not given much to do, outside his hair loss to Rush, but here’s hoping things will be more interesting for Namajague. He would’ve fit in well in Busca de un Idolo; he could lose all the matches and no one would have a problem with it. Namajague’s not quite the caliber of those guys yet, though.

Kaiser Sports recap of the press conference adds CMLL will start a web show with highlights of the Busca de un Ídolo tournament, interviews and standings. The show will go up Wednesdays nights at 8pm local time.

Rob has highlights of 03/14/11 CMLL Puebla.

04/21-22 lucha times

GALA/Televisa: This show is rated two Diamantes show: Diamante/Polvora in a lightning match, Azul/Sombra/Rush vs Avernos

52MX: Angel de Oro, Panther, Diamante Azul vs Pesta Negra, plus Rey Cometa in the semimain

FOX: Gran Alternativa final.

C3: Diamante Azul here too, teaming with Panther, Dorada vs Dragon Rojo, UG and Volador

GDL: Euforia vs Maya should air here if they don’t jump ahead to catch up.

Puebla: Diamante Azul here to, teaming with Mascara, Sombra vs Terrible, Bucanero, Volador

AAA: should be onto the Pachuca taping, with Cibernetico/Mesias/Zorro vs Halloween/Hector/Nicho in the main. Aerostar/Argenis/Atomic Boy face Angel Mortal, Gallego and Gran Apache in a match probably only airing on the regional show

IWRG: the show going on right now. I wonder if Halloween is still in the main event.

Random AYM show is listed, but no telling if it’ll be new. AYM does not list lucha libre this week. ACM will likely be all reruns.

indy shows that might be turn up on YouTube: the Arena Neza show seems possible. The AAA rock/wrestling show on Saturday is a very good bet to have at least one match show up.

Halloween quit the Perros del Mal after their show last month, along with the rest of the Familia de Tijuana and seemed angry about how the promotion had treated him. He had continued appearing on AAA shows as part of the group, explaining it as fulfilling his agreed upon dates and proving his willingness to work for anyone, but just not wanting a close tie to Perros del Mal. Plans change: Perros del Mal and Halloween have announced they’re back together. There’s not even an attempt at explanation – he’s “happy to be where I wanted to be”, which sure seems to be the same place he was unhappy to be last month. I’d guess Halloween was give an ultimatum – either publicly join back with the Perros or no more AAA bookings – but that’s just a guess. The latest Wrestling Observer says Mascarita Dorada was given an ultimatum – either AAA or TxT – and says he went with AAA, so maybe the same happened here. And maybe it doesn’t really mean much, because Dorada is still listed on all sorts of TxT shows.

CMLL held one of it’s regular press conferences today. The big item was a new tournament for youngsters – the third in about two months, if you’re counting – called “En busca de un Ídolo”. This one’s akin to last year’s Forjano un Idolo, trading the size of the competition for a bigger scope in what counts. 8 luchadors will wrestle in lightning matches on Tuesdays and Fridays) with the winners getting points. Luchadors will also be judged by a panel, who will give points based on their character, their personality, the charisma, and how much the public responds to them. There will also be an internet voting competent for more points, held thru their new website: Matches will air on Cadena3; this is the new reality show they mentioned on Tuesday. The matches will also likely be uploaded to the internet, as was done with Forjando un Idolo.

( itself has gotten a new coat of paint. It looks like it’s still a work in progress and some stuff is just old content that is just easier to fine – the oudated roster list is actually a few years old, but couldn’t be easily found on the old version – but it’s easier to get to everything you need from the front page. I really hope the “Redes Sociales Oficiales” link goes local soon; it’s so easy to create believable fake Twitter accounts to cause trouble (ESPN fell for a fake Dave Meltzer twitter this morning!) and it’s so dumb that every promotion hasn’t done this already.

The luchadors in the tournament are tecnicos Titan, Triton, Dragon Lee and Diamante, and the rudos are Puma King, Euforia, Polvora, and Niebla Roja. The tecnicos will be coached by Atlantis & Franco Colombo, while the rudos will be guided by Ultimo Guerrero & Tony Salazar. The judges will be referee Tirantes, announcer Miguel Linares, Maximo, and Negro Casas. Wrestlers will earn 20 points for a win, 10 points for a draw, and zero for a loss. The articles say the judges can add up to 40 more points, so it’s probably a 10 point score from each judge. By those numbers, it’s more important to impress the judges than to win. There is no indication of how much the poll results are worth. The tournament begins on the 04/27 Friday Arena Mexico show.

It’s not clear how long the tournament will be; the schedule on the site has four weeks of matches but says “month one”. It appears tecnicos only face rudos in those four weeks, so maybe three weeks of intra-band matches, and a final on the last week. It’s unclear what happens if one of the judges is not available (working Guadalajara or elsewhere), but they could easily swap someone else in.

This tournament format allows the promotion to have an idea who they want to win and the vague idea of where everyone should finish, but makes planning each match labor intensive: you’ve got finishes and judges score and certain to be manipulated polls. It may be a situation where they just tweak things as they go and do a massive catch up at the end, like what happens prior to the Universal tournament most years.

En busca de un Ídolo is the Japan-style league tournament we’ve been asking for this year, with a whole layer of judging on top. Time will tell if that wrinkle adds or detracts from the flavor, and it’s not the top guys to make this hugely important, but there’s some great potential here for fun matches. Euforia, Titan, Triton, Puma King, Diamante all are reliably good (of varying levels, but good.) Niebla Roja has really impressed in his brief debut/return. Polvora & Dragon Lee are the question marks, but they do have their moments. There’s no obvious favorite either; there are reasons some shouldn’t be expected to win, but this is an even matchup with guys on similar levels.

The bios on the site are interesting. Titan and Triton are listed as debuting last year, while Niebla Roja is still given his Angel de Plata start date. That’s consistent with the stories they’ve been trying to tell (they’ve halfway admitted on Niebla Roja but  hold firm on the others.) Euforia is now a 2007 debut, de-aged to his CMLL debut time, to justify his presence. Polvora is still listed as from 2000, and Diamante as 2001.

One of the other items hyped during this press conference was Kid’s Day, taking place 04/29 at Arena Mexico. (See: video promo, awesome Marco Corleone picture as part of his anti-bullying campaign.) No card yet, but the press release mentions La Sombra, Marco Corleone, Ángel de Oro, Ultimo Guerrero, Volador Jr., Dragón Rojo Jr., Negro Casas, Estrellita, Luna Mágica (her return from Japan), Silueta and more. At the press conference, Terrible challenged Marco, Rush, and Maximo to a World Trios Title match; Rush quickly accepted for the team. The impression was that was for the Kid’s Day main event, but it’s not confirmed. (TRT will should lobby for a more advantageous day.) The minis were hyping the show at the press confernece, so figure them having a match as well. Tickets for kids are 1 peso, provided they are with an adult and only with row 16 and back.

The press conference mentions the Japan comings and goings – the Yujiro and Angel de Oro bits that had already been talked about, and a bit more detail about the matches for the REINA first anniversary show. They’d previously announced a Lady Apache vs Princesa Blanca title match, but the big match on the show is a hair match. Last time Comandante was in Japan, she feuded with head of the promotion Yumiko Hotta and later complained about the experience of the trip causing her hair to fall out. This trip, she’ll either defeat Hotta or all her hair will be gone. (Comandante may never come back and Hotta’s runs the place, so it seems like Comandante would be losing – but it’s probably a lot cheaper for Hotta to shave herself.)

Goya Kong debuts for that promotion this weekend.

Rey Misterio Sr., who’s been Tijuana lucha commissioner for no more than a year, has resigned from that position. The post says he’s going to be a promoter and matchmaker from now on.

The Gladiatores has interviews with both Oficial AK-47 and Oficial Factor after their cage match.

Anibal running in on the Daga show leads to a match with…none of those people. The two matches directly underneath are straight built up from that show.

top six stories of the last two weeks

  • Masakre passed away.
  1. Old man Euforia won the Gran Alternativa. CMLL immediately announced a new Young Stars Tournament – it’s THIRD IN TWO MONTHS – the details of which belong in the next one of these. Euforia’s in that one too, don’t you worry.
  2. on the last AAA TV taping for 24 days, the main event had run-ins from Joe Lider (burning Nicho’s face to seemingly cause him to start being Psicosis again, though that has NOT been confirmed), Teddy Hart (feuding with Jack Evans again), and Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. (costing Dr. Wagner the match to continue their feud.) Mari Apache flipped back to the ruda side in the opener, and Consejo continued to win.
  3. Oficial AK47 lost his hair in the main event of IWRG’s Golfo de Guerra, despite not actually being in the match.
  4. Super Crazy was honored at Arena Lopez Mateos
  5. NJPW’s Yujiro is coming to CMLL, which CMLL’s Angel de Oro is headed to NJPW for the Best of Super Juniors
  6. Silver King Jr. debuted by losing a cage match on an IWRG show
  • DDD ran it’s second show, and was invaded by the FULL promotion.
  • people keeping their titles: Pierrothitio, Rey Bucanero, Marcela
  • A whole bunch of CMLL types won Mexico City titles
  • EAW said they’re running shows, though no one has admitted to going to them.
  • We had a succesful week of identitfying people under new names.

CMLL (TUE) 04/17/2012 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Kaiser Sports]

Rudo fans were telling Horuz to change sides.

3) Dragon Lee, Rey Cometa, Sangre Azteca b Cancerbero, Namajague, Raziel
Tecnicos took 2/3, Cometa 450 on Raziel, and Sangre Azteca dropkicking a flying Cancerbero.
4) Titán b Virus [lightning]
Virus got overconfident and beat by a Titan moonsault in 7:46. Virus has beaten Triton and lost to Titan in recent lightning matches, which is good if you’re making a ladder ranking system.
5) Mr. Águila, Olímpico, Psicosis b Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Hijo del Fantasma
Rudos took 2/3. Fantasma though he had Psicosis beat, but his teammates made the save and beat him.
6) Blue Panther, Diamante Azul, Máscara Dorada DQ Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.
Tecnicos took 1/3. Dragon Rojo’s return from injury. Diamante Azul went for his german suplex on Ultimo Guerrero, which proved to be a bad idea versus a guy who likes to heel kick foul a lot. Diamante Azul demanded a rematch.

5) Batman del Futuro L Tritón, Saruman, Astro de Plata, Chicano, Matrix Jr., Charly Madrid, Astro Rey Jr., Imposible, Andy Boy, Star Boy Jr., Arkano, Guerrero Mixteco, Cataclismo, Moria, Lucian [cage, hair, mask]
Tony Rivera & Star Boy accompanied their students, while Bombero Infernal and Black Terry were with the FIL guys. All four guys ended up in the cage. Charly Madrid dived off the top of the cage. Chicano and Batman del Futuro were the last people in, Chicano beat Batman out (first to touch the floor rules), and Batman del Futuro weas unmasked. Batman del Futuro is Juan Jesús Valaguez, 20 years old, from Mexico City.

Karla, after this show, mentioned C3 and CMLL will be starting “En buscas de un Idolo” on 04/28, which is apparently a reality show featuring 4 tecnicos and 4 rudos. It seems like it’ll be part of the C3 broadcast, because there’s no new show scheduled on that day.

Lizmark Jr. & Octagoncito did an interview to hype up Lucha Libre USA’s show in Houston on Friday. If you’d like to go but don’t have tickets yet, Groupon is doing a half off ticket deal.

VideoNemesis has posted the entirety of the DDD show. The main event is here, you can find the rest on his channel.

5) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., La Sombra vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

Angel de Oro had been feuding with Negro Casas here, but perhaps that’s been moved to the Sunday shows (and Diamante Azul vs UG takes that spot?) The lightning matches are still not airing anywhere we know of. Semifinal could be a lot of fun. Women’s match is Lluvia’s return from Japan.

2) Olimpus I, Olimpus II, Tigre de Plata b Acero, Monsther, Sangre de Lobo
3) Ángel de la Noche, Rey Krystal, Robin Maravilla, Spider Boy DQ Araña de Plata, Atomic Star, Caporal, Ciclope
AULL vs DTU. Team AULL took 1/3. DTU’s Caporal fouled Angel de la Noche for the DQ. Apuesta challenges fouled.
4) Coco Amarillo, Coco Azul, Coco Rojo b Cerebro Maligno, Judas el Traidor, Rey Krimen
Judas’ team won fall 1 and almost fall 2, but lost it due to excessive violence. A mystery clown ran in the third fall and helped the Payasos win. Recap mentions Coco challenged for AULL trios titles, who I thought were champions.
5) Herejía b Eterno [AULL WELTER]
Herejia was the champion, Eterno was attempting to be a three belt welterweight champion. Seconds were Arana de Plata (Eterno) and Judas (Herejia.) Herejia took falls 2/3 to keep the title. Herejia used a referee distraction to foul Eterno and keep the title.

Black Terry Jr. has video of Daga, Flamita, Rocky Santana, Zumbi vs Black Terry, Eterno, Sádico, Sepulturero Negro from the Super Crazy show: part 1 and part 2

Marcela kept the CMLL Women’s Championship in Puebla last night.

AAA is having a kid’s lucha photo contest, where the winner gets a ticket to a Mexico City amusement park and a special gift. No one reading this is eligible.

Davey Richards, King Fale, and Tony Kozina will be running a seminar for GALLI this weekend. I know this blog and most of the active commenters are not big fans of Davey, but $30 actually seems like a really good investment for something like this.  (This was a totally unsolicited plug, I swear.)
