Psicosis/Rush & Sombra/Casas in Puebla, CMLL looking to bring back wrestlers?

CMLL (MON) 01/30/2012 Arena Puebla [Porra Fresa]
1) Espiritu Maligno & Sauron b Black Tiger & Blue Center
Rudos took 2/3.
2) Demus 3:16, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito b Astral, Eléctrico, Último Dragoncito
Rudos took 1/3.
3) Diamante, Sagrado, Sangre Azteca b Misterioso Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis
Tecnicos take 2/3.
4) Kraneo, Morphosis, Psicosis b Metro, Rush, Super Porky
Psicosis attacked Rush early. Rudos took the first, tecnicos took second. Final fall came to down the Psicosis and Rush again. Psicosis tried to get a pin with his feet on the ropes, but Maya caught him and didn’t count three. Rush got up and collided with Maya, allowing Psicosis to sneak in a foul. Psicosis got the microphone to mock Rush for losing, and Rush challenged for mask vs hair.
5) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero b La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Valiente
Bucanero replaced Felino. Rudos took 1/3, Negro getting up his knees on Sombra’s double moonsault to set up the pin. Negro challenged Sombra to a title match, saying Sombra wasn’t a worthy champion.

Psicosis vs Rush is happening next week (with nothing on the line) and Sombra and Negro rematch in trios. I am amused how the Rush feud is Psicosis making fun of Rush for losing to Psicosis.

CMLL looking to bring back wrestlers?

This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter includes this paragraph:

After losing so much talent, with crowds and ratings falling, [CMLL] has changed its direction. For years, the attitude was always that if you leave or get on management’s bad side they would be hard line against bringing you back. But they are actively going after bringing back big names like L.A. Park, Dr. Wagner Jr., Perro Aguayo Jr. and Latin Lover. Latin Lover at this point is scheduled to work regularly for Los Perros Del Mal and AAA starting on 2/14.

This past week’s CadenaTres was an illustrative showcase of current CMLL lack of star power. The main event tecnico side had Brazo de Plata (looking very old), Angel de Oro (an indistinguishable flyer) and La Mascara (who’s gone as far as he can with the current roster – people will accept him on top, but won’t go out of their way to see him). The fans who do come love Peste Negra, but it was a semimain level match propped up as a main event for lack of a better idea. CMLL’s method of booking means lesser main events like last Tuesday are unavoidable, but they’re too frequent.

The change of direction is very believable after they brought back Marco; once it becomes possible for CMLL to forgive people, it’s almost about who else they’re willing to forgive.

“big names like” – you should not take that list as definite or inclusive, this is the type of guys they’re looking at. But we can only work with the names we have, and these are interesting names to work with.

Wagner and Park would be great fun for CMLL, just for the havoc and unhappiness it would create AAA, but both appear to be very happy in AAA. I can’t believe they’d come back unless they got a great deal (and we’ll get to that in a second.) Latin Lover is never going to be full time anywhere and has been so on and off with AAA under current management that he’ll probably be available to be used by CMLL at some point. Though, there’s only a few guys he seems to want to work, and they all seem to be employed by AAA at the moment.

One of the guys is Perro Aguayo Jr., and he’s the most interesting one here. Perros del Mal was conceived as a satellite promotion of CMLL, where they could do their own thing and still work with CMLL on shows. It was CMLL who decided they weren’t happy with that idea, but perhaps times have changed. More recently, Perro and his group have expressed a desire to work in both AAA and CMLL, going from promotion to promotion like a smaller group might do in Japan. Perros del Mal seems to be riding a wave of new money this year (or at least promises of money), allowing them to bring in the Texanos and Garza, so Perro Aguayo may not need to make as much a deal as he would’ve six months ago, but Perro is in this as much for being a star as being paid like a star. If CMLL offers Perro a decent amount and allows him to have the same freedom he currently has, a deal would get done.

My personal confusion here is – how is CMLL planning to pay a Perro Aguayo or a LA Park, when they weren’t paying a Hector Garza or a Texano Jr. enough to keep them around just a few months ago? I guess could make an argument that these guys coming back would be difference makers and no one who left is at the moment (it’s a very debatable argument), but it’s very curious. It would be advantageous for these guys to have the word out that CMLL is interested in them to get better deals from the people who currently employ them, though I’m not exactly sure that’s going on here.

The same newsletter also mentions there’s no plans for Vampiro at the moment. Best return ever!

Other news

Cancerberos want the Tuareg in a cage! and a shot at the Reyes del Atlantida! and a shot at Hijos del Averno! and a unicorn! Maybe not the unicorn, but they’ve got a better a chance at then getting a world title shot. You really should not be this excited after defeating Loco Max.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 02/07/2012 Arena Mexico
1) Enrique Vera Jr. & Starman vs Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Marcela vs La Seductora, Tiffany, Zeuxis
3) Fuego, Metro, Sangre Azteca vs Misterioso Jr., Namajague, Shigeo Okumura
4) Virus vs Loco Max
5) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Super Porky vs Kraneo, Olímpico, Psicosis
6) Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Rush vs Pólvora, Rey Escorpion, Último Guerrero

Polvora in a main event could be another depth issue example. (But, good for him.)

There seems to be a change on the microfeuds, with both Rush/Psicosis and Virus/Loco Max not doing the usual title or apuesta matches to end the feud, just non-title matches. At least, it’s a change for the moment.

CMLL (SAT) 02/11/2012 Teatro Nextel, Parque Interlomas, Huixquilucan, EdM
1) Camaleón & Robin vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Titán, Triton vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Cancerbero, Raziel
3) Delta, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpion
4) Atlantis, La Máscara, Marco Corleone vs Averno, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

If you’ve watched any CMLL TV this week, you may have seen a graphic for this show – because they’ve been heavily plugging on it for all of them. Still had to track go down to Ticketmaster to find out the actual lineup. It’s a odd they’re pushing the show harder than anything else going on in CMLL, but maybe Ticketmaster has the answer there too: with fees added in, tickets run from 243 to 532 MX Pesos ($19 – 41USD). Tickets for this Friday’s Arena Mexico show run from 93 to 383 pesos. It’s a strong lineup, but 150 pesos ($11) more a ticket is a hefty price. And did we just find out how much CMLL saves by running in a building they own rather than an updated (and smaller) venue? Perhaps some other expenses thrown in there.
