Sombra/Shocker, Tuesday preview, Mesias

CMLL (MON) 06/09/2014 Arena Puebla [Periodico Enfoque, Periodico Enfoque (fotos)]
1) Leono, Magnus, Paris b Akuma, Ares, Espíritu Maligno
Tecnicos took 2/3.
2) Blue Center, Pequeño Warrior, Saurón b Astral, Asturiano, Eléctrico
Straight falls, with Warrior and Asturiano feuding. Recaps says fans aren’t into this feud.
3) Ángel de Oro, Pegasso, Tritón b Sangre Azteca, Skándalo, Virus
Tecnicos took 2/3.
4) Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Máximo b Rey Bucanero, Rey Escorpión, Terrible
Tecnicos took 2/3, Atlantis submitting Escorpion and asking for a match. Escorpion agreed.
5) La Sombra DQ Shocker
Quick open falls – La Sombra took the first, Shocker the second. Shocker shoved Tirantes for counting too slow in the third fall, causing the DQ.

Main event finish is peculiar. It doesn’t make sense with anything they’re doing – maybe it wasn’t the originally planned finish.

Tonight’s CMLL main event has Volador Jr., Valiente and Titan versus Mephisto, Ephesto and Puma, which should be a pretty good match. I’ve watched about none of the links I posted this morning, but I do know Valiente challenged Mephisto on TV after their match last week, so maybe that’s the feud of the moment. The Arkangel/Gallo feud has a lightning match, which means no one but the 1000 people in the building will see it. CMLL is the least aware promotion in the world sometimes.

Fantasy replaces Stukita tonight in the minis match. Vaquerita is in for Lluvia on Sunday.

CMLL Gaceta writes about famous people who’ve been to their shows. Cast members from Que Rico Mamba, which Marco appears in, were at Friday’s show. La Gusana Ciega will be in Arena Mexico tonight.

+LuchaTV has video of new Consejo referee Rafael el Maya.  At least they got a CMLL referee who would be good at being evil. Most of the actual CMLL referees struggle just trying to playing it straight.

AAA officially announced the 06/20 Puebla lineup, with Myzteziz in the luchador surprise spot (and no longer in silhouette.) I still can’t remember how to spell Myzteziz without cheating.

Mesias says his shoulder injury is the worst of his career but is anxious to be back soon. No specific date said, but he does bring up the feud with Jeff Jarrett. AAA ran a couple of promos for that as a hair match earlier this year – there is no obvious set up to the feud, they just both suddenly decided they hated each other. If Mesias makes it back for TripleMania (no idea, article is very vague on his return), he figures to be in the annual Jeff Jarrett Wacky Foreign All Stars tag match.

DTU TV made a totally unexpected return last night, with two matches from the 11/23/12 taping. The last episode back in February was from the same taping. I wonder if this DVD had just been sitting in a drawer somewhere for four months?

Indepdent luchadora Keira – she’s worked in DTU among other places – says she’s got an offer to join CMLL.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and this week’s PosterMania.

Rob fantasy books the end of En Busca de un Idolo. Whichever way CMLL goes, I just hope they go somewhere with the final – they need a plan to keep the momentum of this tournament going.

Segunda Caida reviews week 7 of En Busca de un Idolo. I’ve put together a playlist of all the matches rated Must See by Phil over on YouTube, in case you want to check at this tournament without watching all the matches. I’ll add the one mentioned here when I get a chance.

LuchaMania Monterrey has added Hechicero vs Caifan to their 07/05 show.

Ohtani’s Jacket reviews a mid 90s Llanes/Dandy trios.

Sombra doesn’t care how he won Friday’s title match, because winning is the only thing that matters. Also, Sombra assures us that he’s the best.

Chik Tormenta talks about her international travels this year.

80s luchador El Criminal talks about his rough upbringing and early drug addiction.

CMLL (MON) 06/16/2014 Arena Puebla
1) Águila Egipcia, Black Tiger, Tigre Rojo Jr. vs Fuerza Chicana, Guerrero Espacial, Toro Bill Jr.
2) Astral, Asturiano, Bam Bam, Meyer, Stukita vs Blue Center, Demus 3:16, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito, Saurón [cibernetico]
3) Estrellita, Goya Kong, Princesa Sugheit vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Zeuxis
4) La Máscara, Marco Corleone, Rush vs Kráneo, Ripper, Shocker
5) Rey Escorpión © vs Atlantis [CMLL LH]
Rey Escorpion’s 10th defense. Last was in this building, six weeks ago.

Webpage actually lists Shocker as challenging, but Shocker’s got other problems on this show. Mije better run for cover.

Defending the same title in the same building (or same day of the week) is something CMLL should do more frequently. Title changes might mean more if that same audience has seen the champion retain a few times. There are other more obvious fixes but that would help.

A cibernetico like the second match foretells a cage match coming up – maybe as soon as next week. It also allows some less frequent names to slip on to the card: the Tigre Rojo vs Toro Bill feud gets back in this building.

Demon Clown versus Grond XXX, Rocky Lobo & Jinzo to NOAH

IWRG (SUN) 06/08/2014 Arena Naucalpan [The Gladiatores]
1) Ciclon Black & Sky Ángel b Kaling Black & Zurdog
2) Látigo & Metaleon b Anubis Black & Hip Hop Man
3) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Alan Extreme, Golden Magic, Imposible
Rudo took 1/3. AK-47 faked an injury and 911 (already eliminated) snuck a foul in on Golden Magic.
4) Relámpago, Súper Nova, Toscano DQ Eterno, Trauma I, Trauma II
Trauma II jumped Super Nova before the match. Tecnicos took 2/3, the last when Eterno tried to sneak in a foul on Toscano but was caught and disqualified.
5) Dr. Cerebro, Grond XXX, Veneno DQ Apolo Estrada Jr., Demon Clown, X-Fly
Tecnicos took 1/3, the last when Demon Clown accidentally hit the referee when trying to get to Groon

Those final three finishes were foul, foul for a DQ, and DQ. Eh. From what I saw of last week, Grond is better than Demon Clown and Grond is not good at all. Demon Clown appears to be here to lose his mask to someone – I was figuring Hijo de Dos Caras at first, not sure now, and it also depends on IWRG not forgetting about the idea and doing something else (as usual.)

Next week is the Wagner/Hijo de Dos Caras vs LA Park/Pirata Morgan tag match main event, as well as the Gringos vs Oficials tag matches (none of which was really built up here.)

Rush & La Mascara want to retire Negro Casas & Shocker.

Segunda Caida reviews Shocker & Universo 2000 vs Marco Corleone & Kenzo Suzuki and Lucha Azteca 05/17.

CMLL promo for next Friday.

Negro Casas, Sagrado, Fray Tormenta and Nino Tormenta are mentioned as wrestling on 06/21 in Cozumel.

Lucha Libre in Japan

Rocky Lobo and Jinzo were announced NOAH’s upcoming tour, which runs from June 21st to June 28th. Jinzo won the Super Crazy led NOAH tryout a few months ago, and Lobo was in Dragon Gate last year. No sign of Vengador Radioactivo, who finished second in the tournament but was said to be going with Jinzo (and Lobo wasn’t mentioned at that time.) The next NOAH tour listed is the July Junior Heavyweight tournament, and it’s possible one or both could be sticking around Japan for that as well.

CMLL (SUN) 06/15/2014 Arena México
1) Flyer & Starman vs Espanto Jr. & Zayco
2) Estrellita, Lluvia, Marcela vs Dalys, La Seductora, Princesa Blanca
3) Blue Panther, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. vs Kráneo, Morphosis, Olímpico
4) Ángel de Oro, La Máscara, Super Porky vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys
5) Virus © vs Fuego [CMLL SL]
Virus’ 6th defense.
6) Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Valiente vs Mr. Niebla, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero

Father’s day show. Fathers (or anyone claiming to be) can take photos with edecans before the show. They’ve also done a luchadora dance number on these shows in past years.

Virus reached three years of being a champion this year. CMLL’s been fairly consistent in calling that title the “peso de ligero” championship the last few times, so maybe the ‘super’ distinction has been quietly dropped. I’ve asked, let’s see if I get an answer.

Main event is Mr. Niebla’s first match since his latest break. He’s back the show after they’re finally doing the tag team championship match he was supposed to be in. It was his comments judging which seemed to get him into trouble this time, so I wonder if he’ll get to be back in the role Friday (the last day for the judging panel.)

CMLL (SUN) 06/15/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Brillante & El Divino vs Acertijo & Demonio Rojo
2) Explosivo vs Jocker
3) Exterminador & León Blanco vs Espectrum & Ráfaga
4) Black Metal, Esfinge, Gallo, Rey Cometa vs Boby Zavala, Cavernario, Demonio Maya, Sádico
5) Goya Kong & Silueta vs Tiffany & Zeuxis
6) Titán © vs Dragón Rojo Jr. [MEX WELTER]
Titan’s fourth defense.

Dragon Rojo is the world middleweight championship, challenging for the lesser national championship. In a previous era, Dragon Rojo would have to immediately vacate the national championship upon winning because he couldn’t live up to the demands of both. Here, Titan’s just going to win so it doesn’t really mater.

This makes absolutely no sense, but the words on the CMLL championship belts mean absolutely nothing at this point.

Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior b Angelito, Bam Bam, Fantasy Angelito, Bam Bam, Fantasy vs Pequeno Olipico, Pequeno Universo 2000, Pequeno Warrior, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)

3) Metálico, Puma, Skándalo b Oro Jr., Sagrado, Tritón Oro Jr., Sagrado, Triton vs Metalico, Puma, Skandalo, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Straight falls for the tecnicos. Metailco tried to toss his mask to Oro Jr. in the second for the DQ, but referee Edgar figured it out and DQed Metailco instead. Metalico stole Oro’s mask after the match.
4) Valiente b Vangellys [lightningValiente vs Vangellys in a lightning match, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Valiente submitted Vangellys in a startlingly brief match.
5) Blue Panther, Fuego, La Máscara b Niebla Roja, Pierroth, Virus Blue Panther, Fuego, La Mascara vs Niebla Roja, Pierroth, Virus, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Pierroth replaced Gran Guerrero on Tuesday. La Mascara didn’t get along with his partners. Tecnicos took 1/3, Fuego beating Virus for the deciding pin. Fuego asked for a title shot and Virus was not definite on the answer.
6) Atlantis, Máximo, Rush b Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Escorpión Atlantis, Maximo, Rush vs Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Escorpion, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Rudos jumped the tecnicos to start a brawl. Negro and Rush didn’t make it to the ring for the first two fall. Rudos took 1/3, Rush defeating Casas (and then not getting along with his partners.) Rush beat up Casas after the match and demanded a date for their hair match.

Nothing super on the show, though Fuego versus Virus should be pretty good. It was last time. Both Ultimo Guerrero & Atlantis and Rush & Negro Casas running storylines about how CMLL won’t give them the date to the match seems very self indicting.

Next Sunday’s show is in Arena Mexico for Father’s Day.

CMLL (SUN) 06/08/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Índigo & Meteoro b El Piraña & Relampago Azul

4) Demonio Maya & Sádico b Black Metal & Esfinge
Sadico replaced Canelo Casas. Rudos took 1/3, Demonio Maya sneaking in a foul on Esfinge.
5) Gallo © b Boby Zavala [FULL HEAVY]
Gallo defeated Zavala. Gallo’s first defense. Zavala snatched his mask post match, which led to a brawl with Esfinge and Sadico.
6) La Sombra, Rey Cometa, Titán b Cavernario, Dragón Rojo Jr., Mr. Águila
Rudos took 2/3, Dragon Rojo beating Titan to set a title match next week.

***Verano de Escandalo, 2014***
1) Aerostar, Ludxor, Venum b Carta Brava Jr., El Apache, Súper Fly
Aerostar beat Super Fly, but the rudos attacked him after the fact.
2) El Elegido, Faby Apache, Mascarita Sagrada, Pimpinela Escarlata b Mamba, Mini Abismo Negro, Sexy Star, Silver King
Elegido defeated Silver King.
3) Bengala b AngélicoDark ScoriaAustralian SuicideHijo del FantasmaFénixPentagón Jr.Jack Evans [AAA CRUISER, #1 Contenders, semifinal]
Moved down a spot. Eliminations went Scoria (via Jack), Jack (via Fantasma), Angelico (via Pentagon Jr.), Australian Suicide (Pentagon Jr.), Fantasma (Fenix), Fenix (Pentagon Jr.), and Pentagon Jr. (via Bengala’s 8.1)? leaving Bengala as the winner. Bengala faces Aerostar (and Daga?) at some other time.
4) Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Niño Hamburguesa b Daga, Eterno, Steve Pain
Moved up a spot. Nino splash on Daga for the win.
5) Texano © b Psycho Clown [AAA HEAVY]
Hijo del Tirantes was appointed referee, which Psycho Clown protested. Joaquin thought it over and appointed Rafael el Maya (who just happened to be in Orizaba?) as the replacement referee. Texano retained with Maya was distracted – but it turned out the ex-CMLL referee was actually with Consejo all along. Texano’s 11th defense, first on TV since October – two straight with heel referees giving the champion of the world the win. Psycho wants a mask vs hair match.
6) Cibernético, La Parka, Myzteziz b Averno, Chessman, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo
Texano interfered, but Psycho Clown ran him off. Myzteziz defeated Chessman with la Mistica.

Air Date: 06/14 & 06/21

Dorian said it was a sold out show and was retweeting a person who said it was more than 7,000. The local newspaper said almost full.

My uneducated hunch is Psycho Clown versus Texano Jr. mask versus hair match is actually going to take place – they’ve got too long teasing Psycho Clown getting the win, it just doesn’t seem like they’re giving him the title in the end. (Or maybe they will, and just put both on the line.)

It kind of has to be happening, because there’s nothing else here really set up for TripleMania. Myzteziz will be in the main event, either in all-star trios/atomicos like this, or something where Black Warrior gets a payday, or maybe even a non-stip match with Perro or Averno. Those apuesta matches aren’t happening this year, but they can still bring the name value and Psycho/Texano match can be the event. Everything else – including maybe Chessman/Demon – is everything else.

The Rafael el Maya angle comes of as a cute bit done without worrying about how dumb it looks. Joaquin’s obviously a dummy for unknowingly bringing in a crooked referee - and it’s actually workable if there’s some serious retribution coming (maybe the justification for making the mask/hair match?) Rafael el Maya looks silly for complaining about CMLL running undignified matches like submission only and super libre plus and ending up as an evil referee in AAA. (It’s more the earlier comments that were the problem – either a lack of perspective about lucha libre outside of CMLL or just sour grapes.) Doing that finish again really doesn’t hurt the Mega World Title only because it’s so little important right now; they needed more than one good finish to make it worthwhile. Still do.

Cruiserweight match reads and looks as though it lived up to expectations. It’s still not clear if Aerostar faces Bengala if they both face Daga or if something else entirely happens. We just know it’s not happening in Puebla.

There’s still the ground work being laid for the Aerostar versus Super Fly in a mask match. It seems hard to believe there’ll be enough room for it on the TripleMania card when they start to put it together (maybe it’ll happen later in the year.) Aerostar ought to be worried about Super Fly getting involved whenever that trios match happens.

Next taping is 06/20 in Puebla. They originally announced it as 06/13 but did bump it back a week.

Sombra double world champion, En Busca de un Idolo, Verano de Escandalo preview

rey de swing

CMLL (FRI) 06/06/2014 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Cancerbero, Raziel, Shigeo Okumura b Magnus, Pegasso, Starman
Rudos took 2/3.
2) Marcela, Princesa Sugheit, Silueta DQ Dalys, La Seductora, Princesa Blanca
Straight falls, the last when Blanca dropkicked the referee by mistake for the DQ.
3) Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero b Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Máximo
Guerreros took 1/3, the last when Ultimo Guerrero cleanly won with a Pulpo Guerrero. Post match, Ultimo Guerrero claimed CMLL was just about to give him the date of the mask match with Atlantis.
4) Cachorro DQ Cavernario [En Busca de un Idolo]
Referee Edgar broke up a Cachorro martinete and threatened a DQ. Cavernario took advantage to put on the cavernaria for the submission, but did not let go and was DQed. The two kept fighting after the match, and after Cachorro was judged. Judges this week were Rey Bucanero, Dragon Rojo, Shocker and Tirantes. Cachorro scored a 8, 9, 8, 6. Cavernario scored a 9, 9, 10, 3 – both for 31.
5) Hechicero b Dragon Lee [En Busca de un Idolo]
Hechicero turned a swinging cobra clutch into a cristo camel clutch for the win. Hechicero scored a 10, 9, 10, 8. Dragon Lee scored 9, 9, 10, 9, both for a 37.
6) Felino, Negro Casas, Shocker b La Máscara, Rush, Titán
As with Marco on Sunday, Titan fought aggressively like his Indeseable partners and had no problems. Rudos still took 2/3, the second when the tecnicos got themselves DQed and the third with Negro submitting Rush to a STF. Negro & Shocker demanded a tag title shot. Rush & La Mascara may have accepted, but definitely antagonized the fans.
7) La Sombra © b Volador Jr. © [NWA WELTER, NWA MIDDLE]
Seconds were La Mascara for Volador La Sombra and Titan (strangely given the last match) for Volador Jr. Volador took the first with a backcracker and had the match won in straight falls but Tirantes was too busy dealing with La Mascara to see the pin. La Sombra took fall two with a suplex (Shadow Driver?). La Mascara again distracted Tirantes in the third and Rush dropped Volador with the Rush Driver. Sombra took the pin to win both championships. Sombra is the 6th Historic (or 62nd overall) NWA Welterweight champ, holding the title for the 2nd (or 3rd) time. This was also his 5th defense of NWA Middleweight championship

There’s been plenty of double (and more) champions in CMLL history, but someone holding two NWA singles World (or Historic) Championships at the same time is unprecedented. CMLL is strongly in on the Indeseable trios and they were said a big negative reaction from a large crowd. They’re also apparently unafraid of their audience being distracted by the World Cup. Next week’s the test – the last two matches were designed to get these people back in seven days to see Casas & Shocker give Mascara & Shocker their comeuppance (with Mexico playing earlier in the day.) We’ll find out if it’s working.

Match seemed like it got a lot of time. Hopefully CMLL doesn’t cut it up; this is a good week not to air three matches on Fox Sports.

Cavernario caught a break with this judging panel. Other judging panels have given low marks to those who’ve cost themselves wins no matter what happened before. Only Tirantes reacted that way this time, and that may have saved Cavernario 15 points and his life in this tournament.

En Busca de un Idolo standings
131 Hechicero
113 Dragon Lee
103 Cavernario
102 Cachorro

That’s before the Week 2 polling. It looks a lot like Week 1 polling right now, which would mean +40 for Hechicero, +20 for Dragon Lee and around +13 for the other two.

Hechicero is getting thru. Dragon Lee is probably getting thru if he wins – Cavernario or Cachorro would have to pass him  up in the poll and there’s no sign of them doing it. (The poll’s only being ‘stuffed’ for the top two guys right now; the other two guys are getting something closer to what the vote totals actually would be if there wasn’t the obvious flaw in the polling script.) If Cavernario beats Dragon Lee, then it’s going down to the Week 3 poll voting. Dragon Lee could still finish ahead of Cavernario given his fan poll support, and Cachorro would be in that mix as well with a win.

if CMLL wants to figure out the final early: Hechicero & Dragon Lee win.
if CMLL wants complete chaos: Cachorro & Cavernario win.

Hey, imagine if they did En Busca de un Idolo, but instead of putting the rookies and newbies, they put the top guys into it? It would need a different name, maybe something with a letter and a number, have to work on that part. (It is the CMLL-est thing ever for their best creative move of the year to be “let’s just throw a bunch of guys into singles matches where the results don’t actually matter”.)

If CMLL tells Ultimo Guerrero the date is “never”, that’s still a date, right?

Verano de Escandalo preview

AAA has one of their five major shows tonight in frequent destination Orizaba, Veracruz. Show is listed as starting at 9pm CT. No live broadcast, but results should be on their Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Myzteziz will make his AAA in-ring debut in the main event, teaming with AAA stalwarts Cibernetico & La Parka to take on old rivals Averno & Perro Aguayo Jr. as well as Chessman. The big money matches down the road are Myzteziz versus Averno & Myzteziz versus Perro, which seems to point towards who’s taking the fall. This match is about nothing more than proving Myzteziz is as good (or better) than ever.

The biggest match on the show might be Texano Jr. defending the heavyweight championship versus Psycho Clown. This feud has gone on for about 10 months. AAA’s said to be high on Psycho Clown, so they’ve really got no choice but to have him win the championship tonight. It’d be very tough for him to this long challenge for the title (10 months!), lose in his two defenses and be taken seriously as a potential top guy again. (Given all that’s happened – and the more that hasn’t happened, they probably should’ve just had Psycho Clown win the first time instead of killing all this time just to undo that mistake.) Psycho & Texano could probably have a very exciting title match on their own, but AAA filled it with Hijo del Tirantes rudo referee spots last time (as if they didn’t have confidence in their luchadors) and it’d be a surprise if that didn’t happen again.

The third match of importance on the card is the eight way cruiserweight elimination match for a future AAA Cruiserweight championship. (We think it’ll be a three way with champion Daga and previous title shot winner Aerostar, but no one’s stopped to explain what’s meant to be going on here  - it’s a very much ‘making it up as they go along’ feeling on this bit.) This match should be the best on the show with the lineup: Angelico, Scoria, Australian Suicide, Bengala, Hijo del Fantasma, Fenix, Pentagon Jr., Jack Evans. Might even be one of the best AAA matches of the year if they get enough time. My gut feeling is Bengala gets the win her. He hasn’t seemed quite as good as he was on the indies before coming in, but the allure of Daga versus masked Ricky Marvin (versus Aerostar!) is too strong to pass up.

The rest of the show is kind of filler. La Anarquia versus Mexican Powers will surely end with something terrible happening to Steve Pain. The Relevos AAA is a Relevos AAA. The rudos won the last one on TV, so the tecnicos win this one. Space Cadets teaming against Super Fly, Carta Brava Jr. and Apache will be a good way to open it, and Super Fly needs a win somewhere here if we’re meant to take him seriously.

The big question for the night is ‘what’s the TripleMania main event?’ There are definitely matches AAA could run to fill up Arena Ciudad de Mexico in about 10 weeks time, but they haven’t overtly signaled any match. (It’s the opposite of CMLL, who signals they’re running about four different Anniversary main events and then may end up doing none of them.) AAA announced the Perro/Cibernetico hair match at the last major show before Rey de Reyes last year and strongly hinted at La Parka/LA Park and LA Park/Mesias in previous years. I think the cage match for control of AAA was made later in 2009, but that was a running storyline and that Rey de Reyes had the debut of Dr. Wagner to set up his title match with Mesias. This is the point in the AAA story where something happens – I have no idea what that is tonight.

Joaquin Roldan tells +LuchaTV that he’s always looking for AAA to have the best luchadors, so they had to get Myzteziz. Myzteziz is very happy to be in AAA, with old rivals and new challenges.

Other Stuff!

AAA says the top 3 matches from Celaya will air on their TV show later today. That leaves the women’s #1 contender’s match surprisingly off of TV for now – maybe it’ll turn up on YouTube later in the week? They may have other priorities today.

Amapola says felt she was getting stagnant, so winning the CMLL-REINA International title was what she needed. She hopes to break her world title defense record.

Doradafan has highlights of 04/26/14 CMLL

Rob has highlights of 03/11/14 CMLL.

Vangellys puts up his hair in Oaxaca versus Challenger Jr. this Sunday.

Diamante resurfaces – against Ultimo Guerrero and Misterioso back in la Laguna.

Segunda Caida reviews Week 6 of En Busca de un Idolo, finds the one good Super Halcon match.

CMLL (FRI) 06/13/2014 Arena México
1) Black Panther & Starman vs Akuma & Espiritu Negro
2) Acero, Astral, Eléctrico vs Demus 3:16, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito
3) Blue Panther, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
4) Cavernario vs Dragon Lee [En Busca de un Idolo]
5) Hechicero vs Cachorro [En Busca de un Idolo]
6) Atlantis, Máximo, Super Porky vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero
7) La Máscara & Rush © vs Negro Casas & Shocker [CMLL TAG]
Rush & La Mascara’s first defense.

Hmm, wonder what’s supposed to be the big singles feud in the main event. It’s subtle!

Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero again in the semimain. Maybe Ultimo Guerrero will be able to reveal the day of the week the mask match will happen.

Tercera should be good (and means Dragon Rojo is in the house to be a judge.) Minis match might be good. Akuma’s been better of late in the openers.

Myzteziz, double title match tonight

Where did the name Myzteziz come from? AAA says it’s a combination of Mistico and Genesis. Joaquin explained AAA only used the Mistico name to build interest in him but never planned on using it permanently. It sounds like AAA feels they used the Mistico in safe, legal ways, but using that name and mask on the Verano de Escandalo seems like it’s going to end up getting AAA in trouble. I’m surprised they didn’t replace that poster from their website with a new one with the correct name.

Myzteziz said he will still wrestle on indy show as Sin Cara. He believes he legally owns the Sin Cara name, and may gave it to one of his brothers if he sticks with the Myzteziz name. (Please don’t do that.) +LuchaTV has a video interview with Mytzteziz and R de Rudo has footage of the press conference. The logo and font AAA is using for the name is stylish.

AAA actually announced two dates for Ring & Rock StAArs 2 and the Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta. They’ll be there first from July 4th to 6th, and then against September 5th and 6th. That second one should be after AAA’s started taping in the US; some of the group may need a few day vacation at a resort hotel at that point. Cibernetico, Sexy Star, Silver King, Angelico, Taya, Elegido, Pentagon Jr., Jack Evans, Hijo del Fantasma, Steve Pain, Daga, Mascarita Sagrada, Fenix, and Faby Apache are listed as appearing.

Today’s CMLL show is headlined by a rare championship versus championship match, though it’s not a rare face off between the two champions. Sombra puts the NWA Historic Middleweight Championship on the line versus Volador Jr. and his NWA Historic Welterweight Championship, with the idea that one of the rivals will end up with both belts at the end of the night. That’s not what has happened

1983-10-28 Arena México: Sangre Chicana © DRAW Ringo Mendoza © [NWA LH, UWA LH]
1991-12-15 Pista Arena Revolución: Lizmark © DRAW Jerry Estrada © [NWA LH, CMLL LH]
2014-06-06 Arena México: Volador Jr. © vs La Sombra © [NWA WELTER, NWA MIDDLE]
(db 80s/90s results have more holes than Swiss cheese, but you get the idea)

CMLL has champions versus champions matches every year – it’s the CMLL Universal tournament – but this one might go a bit longer. CMLL’s preview of the show points out Rush & La Mascara are likely to get involved, and a double disqualification finish seems the most likely outcome. Should be a fun time to get there.

The rest of the card is pretty packed as well. This appears to be a CMLL’s attempt at running a major show right before the World Cup is all anyone talks about. (CMLL’s not promoted it as such, because it’s CMLL, and it’s running against Mexico/Portugal so it probably won’t work too well.) Titan has a rough night. He’s stuck teaming with the disagreeable Rush & La Mascara, and he’s also booked in San Luis Potosi tonight. Not sure how that’s going to work. The two En Busca de un Idolo matches are Cavernario vs Cachorro and Hechicero vs Dragon Lee. Cachorro and Hechicero figure to win to get the whole field to 1-1. Cachorro has to win to keep any chance of advancing. Ultimo Guerrero and Atlantis are pushed down to the tercera, los Princesas continue feuding in the second match. The overfilled card puts Raziel and Cancerbero all the way in the opener – how unlikely to see those two men in a primera!

LuchaMania Monterrey says Hechicero will be on the 07/05 show. Opponent to be announced.

Segunda Caida watches Dr. Wagner Jr. & Marco Corleone vs Atlantis & Último Guerrero and 05/10 Lucha Azteca.

El Hijo del Santo’s column is basically about how people are unfair to him so he’s unfair right back. Santo, in the middle of a union pitch, writes Marisela and Dorian “los más grandes explotadores y asesinos de la lucha libre” who should be using their money not in lawsuits (against him) but on a legal team to bail Charly Manson out of jail. His column is preempted for the World Cup the next few weeks, so Santo did a fine job of getting in many columns of grouching at one time.

Viva el Hoy (Chicago) has an interview with El Hijo del Santo. He won’t like it, they list his name in first paragraph. Hijo del Santo says he’s planning his farewell show for August. If that happens, and Santo’s timelines are iffy at best, that sets up for a very busy month. CMLL has their show on 08/01, TripleMania is said to be 08/17 and Santo’s show would be somewhere along the same time. The article says Santo is actually in Chicago this Sunday for a similar conversation; maybe I’ll make it out there, though it does look like a limited amount of tickets are available.

Laredo Kid is wrestling for the kids.

Lucha Libre in Japan

06/06 NJPW: Matt Jackson b Mascara Dorada [BOSJ, match 7]
Mascara Dorada finished 3-4, like every CMLL wrestler in a tournament ever. Mascara Dorada is on the opener of the tour ending show, as always. At least I don’t have to give NJPW money.

IWRG (SUN) 06/15/2014 Arena Naucalpan
1) Black Terry, Imposible, Metaleon vs Guerrero Mixtico, Hip Hop Man, Tony Rivera
2) Dr. Cerebro, Golden Magic, Pantera vs Astro Rey Jr., Canis Lupus, Eterno
3) Apolo Estrada Jr. & El Hijo del Diablo © vs Oficial 911 & Oficial AK47 [IWRG IC TAG]
Gringos VIP are champions, first defense.
4) Máscara Sagrada, Relámpago, Súper Nova vs Demon Clown, Trauma I, Trauma II
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Hijo De Dos Caras vs LA Park & Pirata Morgan

Dos Caras Sr. will be honored on the show. The poster says the luchadors will be giving away their masks after their matches; I’m not sure how that works but it sounds pleasant. Not idea if Astro Rey Jr. is meant to be a tecnico or rudo here – his last four appearances are tecnico, rudo, tecnico, rudo.
