This Week’s Ras de Lona
Feb 24
With all the patience of a six year old playing hide and go seek, AAA just went “one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, teneleventwelvethirteenfourteenfifteensixteen!” on the Rey de Reyes participants.
1) Silver King
2) Alan Stone
3) Octagon
4) Super Fly
5) Black Abyss – mispelled!
6) Dark Scoria
7) Abismo Negro
8) Electroshock
9) Joe Lider
10) Dark Ozz
11) Latin Lover
12) Nicho el Millonario
13) El Elegido
14) La Parka
15) Psycho Clown
16) Super Porky
Let’s resort that out.
No Chance
- Octagon
- Dark Ozz
- Super Fly
- Black Abyss
- Dark Scoria
- Joe Lider
- El Elegido
- Psycho Clown
- Super Porky
Extremely Limited Chance
- Nicho el Millonario
- Electroshock
- Alan Stone
You can quibble with people who should be in one of those groups rather than the other, but it really doesn’t matter. They’re not winning.
Probable Winners
- Silver King
- Abismo Negro
- Latin Lover
- La Parka
It’s pretty obvious these four are a distance away from the rest of the pack here. Silver King was arguable before his turn, but now he’s married to La Parka and we’re already short on rudos anyway. In fact, since the final will likely be two rudos and two tecnicos, they’re probably bound to lose Abismo (via Black Abyss) or Latin (random Legion guys?) in the first round. Maybe Electro makes the final. Maybe someone random.
Okay, so we’ve got the tournament. What else?
- Konnan (w/Arturo Rivera) vs ? (w/Joaquin Roldan) – everyone will suppose this to be Cibernetico until they announce it or announce differently. Yet, there’s no Mesias match and no obvious one coming, so that’s probably the stronger bet at the moment
- something with X-Pac and Zorro
- something with Charly and Chessman?
- something to round out the numbers – maybe Apache/Billy related, maybe just a random match
They ran four non-tournament matches last year, and I would figure on the same this year.
02/23: Coliseo, GDL
Feb 23
CMLL (SUN) 02/22 Arena Coliseo [Ovaciones]
1) Sensei & Sombra de Plata b Camorra & Carrona
2) Lady Apache, Lluvia, Sahori b Amapola, La Nazi, Rosa Negra
3) Flash, Leono, Metro b Loco Max, Shigeo Okumura, Skandalo
4) Heavy Metal, Lizmark Jr., Terrible b Metalico, Sagrado, Toscano
5) Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corleone, Volador Jr. b Atlantis, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero
Quite a few subs. Mascara Purpura missed his big semimain spot and got replaced by Metalico, Leono replaced Stuka, and Sahori replaced Goddess.
CMLL (SUN) 02/22 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
4) La Mascara, Mictlan, Shocker b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto [torneo, quarterfinal]
5) Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca b Blue Panther, Mascara Dorada, Stuka Jr. [torneo, semifinal]
6) Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca b La Mascara, Mictlan, Shocker [torneo, final]
PODER MEXICA. Warrior snuck in a foul on Shocker.
Box Y Lucha #2911 has Dr. Wagner denying that he’s going back to CMLL (a rumor spread by Box Y Lucha #2910).
Ohtani’s Jacket watches Puebla local matches.
NWA MEXICO (SAT) 02/14 Restaurant el Rancho, Tepotzotlan [The Gladiatores]
1) Okawa b Dragos
2) Fantastico Celestial b Utlimo Vampiro
3) Arkanos DRAW Black Spider
4) Marco Rivera b Rey Lobo
5) Extrano b Alma Infernal
6) Skayde b Coloso
7) el Hijo Del Anibal & Huracan Ramirez Jr. DQ Mascara Sagrada & Mr. Mexico
8) Blue Demon Jr. b El Dandy [NWA HEAVY]
From the pictures, this looks like it took place outside the restaurant, under a big tent. Looks like a decent crowd too. Blue Demon won clean, so that may be the end of that. DQ in the semimain was for Mascara Sagrada (back? still? a rudo here) pulling Anibal’s mask.
EAW (THU) 02/19 Gimansio Marcelino Gomzalez [MT, SuperLuchas]
1) Taurocosis b Rafaga
2) Sol Ardiente & Voltron b Maverick & Payasito Luchin
3) Skayde & Tony Rodriguez b Black Thunder & Okawa
4) Incognito & Turbo b Magno & X-Fly
5) Excalibur, Iron Boy, Luminoso TLDRAW American Rebel, Mike Castillo, The Rocker
6) Kid Kamikaze & Marcelo Gadel b Pantera & Violencia
7) El Hijo del Solitario & Nieto de Rene Guajardo b Antifaz del Norte & Hator
8) Dr. Wagner Jr., Sangre Chicana Jr., Super Crazy b Black Metal, LA Park, Zumbido
The Two Ring Show! As it turned out from the pictures, the bottom rope on the high ring was at the same height of the top rope in the main ring, so there wasn’t as severe a difference as in some of the pictures. There’s a great picture of it on the link (you can NEARLY make out the URL for the promotion – probably shouldnt’t be news at this point that they have a website), and they apparently had a mjaor league entrance/video boards stuff going on, so this should look good on TV (should it get to TV.) There’s highlights on YouTube, though I can’t find any with them using both rings. I know they’re out there, and not so impressive. Over on DVDVR, Black Metal says they didn’t have any practice working in this setup until they got in the ring for the match, so they just kinda worked around it for a normal match (Park/Wagner brawl, mask match tease, video via WagnerMania.) Anyway, quite the All Star lineup of Whatever Happened To on this show and this promotion is a win if they’ve got people video taping footage of Skayde trainees and it makes it to my comptuer somehow.
IWRG (THU) 02/19 Arena Naucalpan [Al Filo del Ring, Black Terry Jr., SuperLuchas #301]
1) Comando Gama b Keshin Black
2) Hijo del Signo & Judas el Traidor b Comando Negro & Eragon
3) Bushi, Cerebro Negro, Fantasma de la Opera b Chico Che, Trauma I, Trauma II
4) Multifacetico, Pendulo, Zatura b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
5) Dr. Cerebro b Freelance [hair]
These two met as a result of losing that three way match for the Lightweight Title. Looks like it was bloody war. Cerebro Negro, as Dr. Cerebro’s second, hit Freelnace with an object to bust him open in the first fall, but Freelance won that fall. Cerebro Negro tired to do it again in the second fall, but Freelance got the weapon and used it on Dr. Cerebro. Naturally, he was caught for the DQ. Freelance missed a dive, moonsaulting onto the barricade. Dr. Cerebro brought him in and finished him off.
Elsewhere in SuperLucahs, there’s the reoccuring “wrestler tells about occasion where I almost died” interview. This week, it’s Freelance about that match a month ago. He blacked out for two hours and doesn’t remember anything of it, except that referee Reyes Rosas got him home. His parents don’t want him to wrestle any more, because they feel like everything he does is crazy.
Semifinal sets up a trios title match.

Lineups
CMLL (MON) 02/23 Arena Puebla
1) Bam Bam, Nino de Acero, Ultimo Dragoncito vs Pequeno Violencia, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
2) Mascara Purpura vs Loco Max [lightning]
3) Lady Apache, Marcela, Sahori vs Amapola, La Nazi, Princesa Blanca
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado, Valiente vs Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca
5) Marco Corleone, Shocker, Toscano vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero
Not a single local. Has that ever happened? If there’s setting up a minis match here, it’s odd to do it on the opener.
IWRG (THU) 02/26 Arena Naucalpan
1) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II vs Judas el Traidor & Nemesis IWRG
2) Eragon, Trauma I, Trauma II vs Araftah, Black Terry, Dr. Cerebro
3) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro vs Multifacetico, Pendulo, Zatura [IWRG IC TRIOS]
4) Emilio Charles JR., Fuerza Guerrera, Scorpio Jr. vs el Hijo del Pierroth, Tetsuya Bushi, Toxico DF
Why not put the trios title match on top here?
IWRG (SAT) 02/28 Arena Xochmilco
1) Eragon vs Avisman
2) Fenix & Miss Gaviota vs King Drako & Vampiro Metalico
3) Freelance, Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II vs Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Fantasma de la Opera
4) Fantasik, Multifacetico, Zatura vs Andy Barrow, el Hijo del Pierroth, Tetsuya Bushi
5) Damian 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hijo del Cien Caras vs Fantasma Jr., Scorpio Jr., Tinieblas Jr.
Hey, look who’s here. Though it’s not listed, there’s got to be TV for this show, I’d think.
CMLL (SUN) 03/01 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Carlo Roggi vs Acertijo
2) Idolo & Palacio Negro vs Angel del Mal & Drago
3) Metatron & Nube Roja vs Rey Trueno & Valentin Mayo
4) Maximo, Sagrado, Toscano vs Misterioso II, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) Hector Garza, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Black Warrior, Mr. Niebla, Ultimo Guerrero
IWRG (SUN) 03/01 Arena Naucalpan
1) Fenix & Miss Gaviota vs King Drako & Vampiro Metalico
2) Eragon, Trauma I, Trauma II vs Black Terry, Capitan Muerte, Xibalva
3) ?, Freelance, Zatura vs Avisman, Fantasma de la Opera, Tetsuya Bushi
4) Head Hunter I & Head Hunter II vs Hijo del Cien Caras & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.
That probably should be a tag team title match, based on the recent feuds, but it’s possible not offical yet.
CMLL (SUN) 03/01 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II vs Inquisidor & Semental
2) Fantasy, Pequeño Olímpico, Ultimo Dragoncito vs Bracito de Oro, Mascarita Dorada, Nino de Acero
3) Flash, Metro, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus
4) Blue Panther, Marco Corleone, Mascara Dorada vs Atlantis, Felino, Negro Casas
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara, Shocker vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
Just like Sombrita, last we saw of Bracito de Oro, he was fill out the ranks for the lightweight title tournament. Last we heard, Bracito de Plata was feuding with Mascarita Ano 2000 in a mask match in Cancun (and it sounded like Bracito was losing), so plans have definitely changed. Swelling the ranks for the Puebla cage match?
02/21: Mexico, Lineups
Feb 21
CMLL (FRI) 02/20 Arena Mexico [Ovaciones, ESTO]
1) Metalico, Starman, Trueno b Apocalipsis, Inquisidor, Ramstein
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Euforia, Nosferatu b Angel de Oro, Angel de Plata, Flash
3) Virus CO Mascara Dorada [lightning]
4) Mictlan, Sagrado, Valiente b Felino, Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura
5) Averno, Texano Jr., Villano V b Blue Panther, Maximo, Ultimo Guerrero
6) Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero b Hector Garza, Marco COrleone, Mistico
Atlantis pulled Mistico’s mask and covered him for the main event win.
Villano V and UG were pulling off each other’s masks – Ovacones has a picture of Ultimo Guerrero’s face, but it’s digitized. UG got DQed in the first fall for yanking V5′s mask, V5 got UG clean in the second fall.
There did turn out to be six matches after all.
CMLL (TUE) 02/24 Arena Mexico
1) Angel Azteca Jr. & Sombra de Plata vs Camorra & Zayco
2) Electrico, Pequeño Olímpico, Shockercito vs Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Violencia, Sombrita
3) Lady Apache, Marcela, Sahori vs Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra
4) Hector Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, Toscano vs Ephesto, Misterioso II, Terrible
5) Shocker vs Ultimo Guerrero
Sombrita hasn’t been here in a long time, not since the lightweight tournament. Guess they needed fill ins with people out. I presume the main event is the same deal – if Shocker beats Ultimo Guerrero, he gets a title shot at some point down the road.
CMLL (FRI) 02/27 Arena Mexico
1) Angel de Oro & Angel de Plata vs Caligula & Messala
2) Mascarita Dorada, Nino de Acero, Pequeno Ninja vs Pequeno Universo 2000, Pequeno Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Rey Cometa vs Artillero [lightning]
4) La Mascara, Maximo, Sagrado vs Ephesto, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) Black Warrior, Blue Panther, Ultimo Guerrero vs Averno, Mephisto, Villano V
6) Hector Garza, Marco Corleone, Mistico vs Atlantis, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero
Lots of rematches, not much new. Rey Cometa/Artillero should be fun.
Maybe more news later.
Edit: AAA’s changed the date for the Las Vegas show to Thursday 04/02.
Also, mexicanwrestling.org (which still lists the San Diego show and not the Vegas one) has the lineup for both weekends:
03/27-03/29
Crazy Boy, Super Fly vs Joe Lider, Jack Evans
Pimpinela, Mascarita Sagrada 2007 vs Decnnis, Mini Abismo Negro
Vampiro vs Mesias Chessman
La Parka Jr., Abismo Negro, Laredo Kid vs Psycho Clown, Zombie Clown, Killer Clown
Cibernetico, Mesias, Charly Manson vs Ozz, Cuervo, Scoria
04/02-05?
Vampiro, La Parka, Abismo Negro vs Psycho Clown, Zombie Clown, Killer Clown
Cibernético, Charly Manson vs Electroshock, Joe Lider
El Mesías vs Chessman
Super Fly, Crazy Boy vs vs Extreme Tiger, Jack Evans
Faby Apache, Octagoncito, Pimpinela vs Mary Apache, Mini Abismo Negro, Deccnis
Running the same lineup in Las Vegas and Los Angeles doesn’t really lend itself to TV tapings. But the card is subject to change, as are the taping dates (and no one explicitly says either card is for Vegas.)
Original post follows
AAA officially announced the Las Vegas stop on their US tour. The Observer had mentioned it back when the tour was first mentioned by AAA, but the building was not set.
AAA lists the tour as
03/27: Fresno, CA (Save Mart Center)
03/28: Sacramento, CA (ARCO Arena)
03/29: San Jose, CA (HP Pavilion)
04/03: 04/02: Las Vegas (Orleands Arena) – CONFIRMED TV taping
04/05: Los Angeles Sports Arena – possible TV taping
There are definite issues here:
- No San Diego show on the 4th, even though tickets are on a sale and a lineup was announced.
- Can’t find an Orleands Arena. Can find a Orleans Arena, which is hosting a hockey game that night. Huh.
I guess it does make more sense to do the TV tapings on the same weekend, so you can just go location to location, and AAA never does tapings on back to back days, but that doesn’t preclude them from running in San Diego without the cameras. I’m not quite sure what’s going on here, but I think it’s bad info.

CMLL (FRI) 02/20 Arena Mexico
1) Metalico, Starman, Trueno vs Apocalipsis, Inquisidor, Ramstein
2) Angel de Oro, Angel de Plata, Flash vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Euforia, Nosferatu

CMLL
Previews: ESTO & Ovaciones. Quiet show, with as much attention being paid to the announcement of Cavernaro Galindo as the second legend of Dos Leyendas as the show. Ovaciones tries to hype up the possibilities of Flash vs Arkangel in a mask match.
Pierroth II is among those organizing a benefit show for the original Pierroth, still at home recovering. The plan is to run the show on April 3rd, in Arena Azteca Budokan, with indy wrestlers (Wagner, Mascara Sagrada, Huracan Ramirez, Pierko el Boricua and the Junior capos are the bigger names.)
SuperLuchas says the press confrence for the Lucha Libre Expo is on 03/24. CMLL matches are expected to be on May 2, AAA on May 3rd.
Canasanta has quotes from a Blue Demon Jr./el Hijo del Santo panel discussion in Colombia.
Kcidis draws angry Veneno.
There’s call for the Pacucha lucha comissioner to be removed from office, because he’s just handing out wrestling licenses to whomever.
The Llaves y Piquetes Box Y Lucha rumor column has all sorts of fun gossip, suggesting Wagner and Koslov would like to return to CMLL most prominently. They also say Bam Bam spent the night in the hospital after taking the martinete last Friday and Polvora & Pegasso were also hurt. They also hype a possible Black Warrior vs La Mascara in a hair vs mask match, so take this with grains of salt. The Rasgunos del Gato Manoso aritcle talks about La Hercihcera recovering from a tibia injury
SuperLuchas looks back at AAA pre-TripleMania I.
LuchaWorld has IWRG 10/11/07 IWRG and IWRG 10/11/07 IWRG and GDL from September 07, and KrisZ’s news update.
02/19: GDL, Box Y Lucha
Feb 19
CMLL (TUE) 02/17 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT]
6) Blue Panther & Mictlan b Averno & Ephesto
7) Marco Corleone & Toscano b Black Warrior & Mr. Niebla
Box Y Lucha has the weekly article dump
- Super AAA/Mascara Sagrada Jr. and Mr. Condor both talk about leaving AAA. Super AAA is now wrestling as Muerte Roja (which someone else used in AAA for about five seconds). Mr. Condor is wrestling as Romando Garcia on the UWE shows and plans on teaming with Muerte Roja as Los Nuevos Diabolicos on the indepedent scene. Both are complimentary to AAA but wanted more work.
- Rey Bucanero accuses AAA of ripping his idea off for club shows (for the Circus Circus show.) I seem to remember AAA doing it before, but I guess Rey’s point is they weren’t doing it now until he started doing it. Anyway, Rey’s plan is to do it once a month, but they didn’t do one in January because no one had any money.
- Gronda II wishes Groon XXX well, so he can come back and feud with him. Gronda II says his new mask it more of a homage (copy) of Hell Boy, because he like’s the character.
- Villano III writes about his father falling out of the ring, getting a gun pulled on him by a drunk abusive fan, and knocking the guy “five meters away” with one shot.
- Remembering El Santo, as a rudo.
Luchas 2000 #458 has Halloween rejoining the Perros. Looks like Rayman and Rayo de Jalisco Jr. have fallen out again.
WagnerMania posted video of Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Rayo de Jalisco Jr.
LuchaWorld has Robert on 09/09/07 AAA and 08/27/07 AULL, as well as KrisZ’s news update and 61-70 on the top 100 countdown.

2009 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#878)
Mexico: 03/08
US: 03/28
Okay, now we appear to have everything up to Rey de Reyes, and I still have no idea what the card is supposed to be. Is it just going to be a normal TV taping with a tournament bolted on?
That’s the third time they’ve run that singles match in five weeks.
It feels like they just restarted the Super Fly/Electro feud to give Electro some wins before he loses to Charly.
Super Crazy is listed as wrestling in the tag match, but obviously won’t be here at this point.
AAA TV (WED) 02/18 Parque de Beisbol de Celaya, Guanajuato [AAA]
1) Rio Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana II b el Ángel, Gato Eveready, Gran Apache
2) Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario b Laredo Kid & Super Fly
3) Black Abyss b Abismo Negro
4) Jack Evans & Teddy Hart b Crazy Boy & Ultimo Gladiador
5) La Parka Jr. b Silver King
6) Charly Manson, Latin Lover, X-Pac b Electro Shock, Konnan, Zorro
2009 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#878)
Mexico: 03/08
US: 03/28
The big news here is Super Crazy was telling the truth – he’s not in AAA for the time being. Ultimo Gladiador filled in here and probably will on the 28th. When you consider Super Crazy left WWE because he felt constrained by the promotion, you could see why he might put off joining another one if he’s making it work on his own. The surprise is there’s enough on the independent scene to make it work (and working in Puerto Rico helps.)
Before the opener, they ran their big angle for the show and for Rey de Reyes. Arturo Rivera and Joaquin Roldan apparently got into a fight on the previous taping, because they were in the ring here setting up a hair match. They won’t be fighting, just picking wrestlers to represent them. Arturo picked Konnan, and Roldan has “one week” (next taping) to pick his guy. Doing this angle would seem to preclude them from doing anything about ownership at Rey de Reyes, but we’ll see. Hermandad also showed up in this segment to tell Konnan they’re not working any more because he’s out of cash, which seems like a continuation of the “Konnan is running AAA into bankruptcy.”
Poder del Norte won. It helped that Angel got hurt. Edit: Angel apparently hurt himself on a dive, tried to continue the match, and passed out in the ring.
Billy Boy attacked Gran Apache again.
Nicho pinned Laredo. Not good to be an Air Force guy, but at tag team champs didn’t lose another non-title match leading nowhere. Just to add to it, Silver King ran out to beat up Laredo & Super Fly. Parka made the save, but ended up put thru a table by Lider.
Black Abyss actually got a win on his rival. He got Abismo with a martinete, with Hijo de Tirantes looking the wrong way (though, given all the past Abismo/Hijo de Tirantes issues, I think he would’ve allowed it) and then burned Abismo after the match. Abismo was stretchered out.
After the big build, La Parka just beat Silver King clean, though we’re told Parka wants more revenge.
Charly beat Electro clean with the el Pozo (his inverted figure four), with Hijo de Tirantes counting the submission even though he was helping the Legion on the rest of the show.
Next taping on 02/28.
