regular CMLL show tonight, AAA TV taping in Mazatlan, IWRG

CMLL

CMLL (FRI) 07/01/2022 Arena México
1) Acero & Aéreo vs Full Metal & Pequeño Violencia
2) Dulce Gardenia, Espíritu Negro, Rey Cometa vs Hijo del Villano III, Okumura, Pólvora
3) La Jarochita, Lluvia, Princesa Sugehit vs Amapola, Dalys, Dark Silueta
4) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Negro Casas vs Ángel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Terrible
5) Soberano Jr., Titán, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis Jr., Dragón Rojo Jr., Templario

Just a low-pressure show. Sometimes those are the better ones. The top match could be good, the semi-main will get good reactions just becuase of who’s involved. It’ll be on Ticketmaster live.

CMLL (SUN) 07/03/2022 Arena México
1) Micro Gemelo Diablo I & Micro Gemelo Diablo II vs Chamuel & Perico
2) Cachorro, Leono, Sangre Imperial vs Enfermero Jr., Grako, Inquisidor
3) El Audaz, Flyer, Volcano vs Disturbio, Raider, Rugido
4) Panterita del Ring, Star Jr., Stuka Jr. vs Cavernario, Hechicero, Mephisto
5) Atlantis, Dark Panther, Soberano Jr. vs Ángel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Terrible

Rugido is a rudo? I bet even he isn’t sure.

CMLL (MON) 07/04/2022 Arena Puebla
1) Meyer & Millenium vs Guerrero Espacial & Sombra Diabólika
2) El Malayo & Prayer vs Rey Apocalipsis & Siky Ozama
3) Dulce Gardenia, Espíritu Negro, Rey Cometa vs El Suicida, Hombre Bala Jr., Robin
4) Diamond, Magnus, Volador Jr. vs El Audaz, Soberano Jr., Stigma
5) Atlantis, Atlantis Jr., Templario vs Euforia, Mephisto, Titán

Semimain seemed to be headed to a Soberano/Volador match.

CMLL (TUE) 07/05/2022 Arena México
1) Dr. Karonte I, Dr. Karonte II, Grako vs Apocalipsis, Cholo, Príncipe Odín Jr.
2) La Jarochita, Lluvia, Marcela vs Dalys, Hera, Stephanie Vaquer
3) Rugido vs Espanto Jr.
4) Dark Panther, Guerrero Maya Jr., Star Jr. vs Cancerbero, Hijo del Villano III, Luciferno
5) Negro Casas, Stuka Jr., Titán vs Gemelo Diablo I, Gemelo Diablo II, Sagrado

Rugido is a tecnico? That appears to be a full-length match, but that probably just means one fall and it could go longer than ten minutes. Which is a frightening thought. Olympia is posting bodybuilding photos so I assume she’s not missing matches due to injury.

CMLL announced the field for the 07/15 Leyenda de Plata Block A

  • Titan
  • Hijo del Villano III
  • Panterita del Ring Jr.
  • Magia Blanca
  • Rey Cometa
  • Negro Casas
  • Dragon Rojo Jr.
  • Soberano Jr.

This appears to be a single-elimination tournament and it could be a good one depending on how much time they give it. Titan, Dragon Rojo, and Soberano seem to have the best chances of getting through.

La Jarochita was on CMLL Informa and talked about a mask match with Reina Isis as a near certainty. It was more a discussion of where it would be on the card than if it would be on the card. (She’d like it to be the main event, it’s incredibly unlikely it’ll be the main event.) CMLL big matches aren’t set until they do a contract signing and that still is to come.

CMLL liked to do big press presentations when announcing the Gran Prix teams, so perhaps that’s also when the Aniversario matches will be signed. Just a guess. Informa said those Gran Prix announcements are coming ‘soon’.

Mistico updated his timeline to “2 to 3 weeks” during media availability on Wednesday. He also did say he’s not in the Leyenda de Plata tournament, phrased in a way where I’m unsure if it’s “he’s too hurt to wrestle” or “he wasn’t actually booked in the tournament”. It comes off like it’s actually the latter. There’s no big reason for Mistico to rush back before the 07/29 show if he’s not need in those blocks. Mistico got hurt on a Sunday show so obscure that I couldn’t find a poster; he wrestled in Acapulco the next night but was clearly hurt from the start. They seemed to change that match from a 2v2 to a 3v3 to help him out, and Mistico got to blame Ultimo Guerrero and Sagrado for taking advantage of the situation. He’d been pushing for a Mistico/Karontes vs Sagrado/Diablos match previously and used that as a way to heat up that idea. Mistico very much wants to be in the Gran Prix.

Pequeno Olimpico would like the long talked about mask match with Ultimo Dragoncito or Pierrothito, but doesn’t want to lose in the upcoming minis cibernetico. The final for that will be on a Friday show, which does have me wondering if it’ll be one of the bigger names involved.

Pequeno Violencia would like revenge on Shockercito for taking his hair and Pequeno Olimpico for taking his mask. He mentions criticism that the CMLL minis division doesn’t have the quality of the past only in saying they’ll prove that they actually do.

KeMonito will have a birthday celebration on Sunday in Arena Mexico and did press to promote it. He said he would’ve liked to have a match in the Micros division, but he’s too injured to do so and injured enough that he believes retirement might be close, though he’d like to always be round lucha libre. KeMonito doubts he’ll have a successor “because the man who could be the successor is doing things a bit wrong and it wouldn’t be possible for him to be a replacement now.” It was suspected KeMonito would hand over his role or maybe his entire gimmick to his son Microman,a and Microman leaving CMLL may have broken those plans.

The Mayor of Cuauhtemoc hosted another birthday celebration for KeMonito on Wednesday. This somehow became a political story.

An unspecified AAA match is scheduled for the 07/31 Ric Flair’s Last Match show. That’s notable because there’s a NJPW match announced for the same show. Maybe they can get away with it because it’s not a NJPW show.

AAA

Space is currently listing the third week of TripleMania Tijuana, so no need to stream it. I guess they have the Copa TripleMania left that didn’t air on Space, but it feels like AAA kills any momentum coming off big shows by stretching out the repeats like this. I guess we should just pencil in three weeks of TripleMania in October.

AAA has a TV taping on Saturday in Mazatlan. Every AAA show has changes and this one won’t be different; Bandido is advertised in the main event and appears to be out due to injury. I’m kinda wondering about the rest of the lineup. Fenix missed Wednesday’s AEW Dyanmite/Rampage taping with a “illness.” (Fenix/Penta vs Rush/Andrade was on the books for that Rampage show until the illness.) “Illness” typically frequnetly a very specific illness, and Fenix was on the AAA Showcenter card with a whole bunch of people on this past Sunday. No way of being sure Fenix had COVID then, no way of knowing if it got passed to him or he was far enough along to pass it other people, not even sure if AAA is still doing COVID testing but I’m just mentioning this now in case some other people are quietly missing from this taping.

The main event is Bandido/Penta vs Dragon Lee/Dralistico sounds great, isn’t going to happen. Semimain is Vikingo, Iguana, Nino Hamburgeusa versus Gringo Loco, Latigo and Toxin could be fun. Mini Abismo Negro Jr. makes his TV debut (so it’s the first time most Mexican fans will know the character exists) and Chik Tormenta has her first post-mask TV match. AAA has three to five weeks of unaired TV already, so this Mazatlan show may not air for quite a while.

There’s also a loaded-up AAA/DTU spot show in Monterrey on Sunday. It’s not an an AAA taping though it has enough names that it may feel like one. Dragon Lee & Dralistico vs Electro SHock & Sharlie Rockstar is a very weird match.

The AAA Orizaba promoter is pushing a Guerra de Titanes show on 08/27 with a Pentagon, Pagano, Psycho vs DMT Azul, Puma King, Sam Adonis. It looks like a local event that’s playing itself off as a TV taping, but I’m not 100% sure.

SoloWrestling has an interview with Chik Tormenta, which she noted was her first extended one since losing her mask. When she came to Mexico City to try and expand her career, she actually worked behind the scenes at AAA tapings while training with Gran Apache to hopefully get in front of the camera. That feels like a very American indie start.

La Jacuan and Los Vipers had issues stemming from their loss, setting up a match between them.

The main event had Vikingo doing moves no one else can do in a match built around a few cool spots and not else.

FILL vs Big Lucha, who are Skayde trainees. The semimain could be all over the place. Saturday shows aren’t streamed on Mas Lucha but IWRG will put this one up on their own show on Wednesday.

I think there’s a show Sunday but no lineup has shown up yet.

Other News

LuchaWorld has the latest Lucha Report.

Impact has an Impact Plus shows tonight, and Laredo Kid & Black Taurus will wrestle on the free pre-show. Their match should air on YouTube around 6:30 pm and will be there later. Unlike the Before the Impact matches, that one should actually air before Impact does. Laredo Kid’s fourway match with Trey Miguel, Chris Bey, and Steve Maclin on Impact last night was a fun enough six minutes but nothing you have to go track down today. Impact is also taping in Atlanta on Saturday; Taurus and Laredo aren’t listed in AAA so they’re probably sticking around.

I said this on Twitter a while back but I think it’d be cool if Impact brought back something like the country versus country X Cup competitions they used to do. Impact already has half the people they’d need for a good Team Mexico but more importantly they seem to be running a PPV or Impact Plus show every three weeks and they could probably use a gimmick show to stop having to come up with new important matches so often.

Bandido, who a few days ago said he’d be out for two weeks, now says he’ll be out six weeks. No wrestling for him in July.

Shocker took to Instagram to dispute a report he was dead. His evidence, being an alive person able to post on social media, was very compelling.
