16:10. Stuka pinned Atlantis after pulling his mask. Stuka challenged Atlantis to a mask match, Atlantis refused.

Just a show. Nothing special either way. The Stuka/Atlantis stuff got played up, but that really hasn’t advanced meaningfully since March and probably won’t for a couple of months more. Stuka did suggest the Atlantis/Atlantis Jr. vs Fuerza/Stuka double mask match, so it exists as a possibility. I think it’s unlikely to actually happen but it’s hlepful to have something new to talk about.

Ticketmaster never appeared to refund the failed stream from May 27th. Instead, on Friday, they sent a ticket purchasers a link to a (CMLL) YouTube upload of the show and said it would be available for three days. Portions of the same show aired on TV on Saturday so this wasn’t a big offer.

That 05/27 show was generally better than the one this week. The Atlantis Jr./Mistico match wasn’t a great match on its own, more a good match with a great crowd. The fans seemed not to believe Mistico was going to lose until Atlantis Jr. got him in the Atlantida, and reacted to it like it was a huge deal. Angelito/mercury was both guys getting to do all they could in a limited time. The tournament matches didn’t really stand out.

Fuerza Guerrera looked painfully old in his match on that 05/27 show, really struggling to do much and mostly kept on an apron by Cavernario and Dragon Rojo. Mexican fans are very forgiving to legends, but a singles match between Atlantis and Guerrera would be as bad as anything in TripleMania Monterrey. Maybe worse since CMLL’s not going to let them bleed or do interference spots to hide their weaknesses. It’s possible they could hide Guerrera in a tag match. It mostly felt like time had passed him by.

La Guerrera, speaking to Box y Lucha at this show, mentions she was out for six months due to a neck injury at the hands of Reina Isis. She disappeared from September 2021 to February 2022, so that fits.

EIther of those opening matches could be an actual angle on a Sunday show, but we’ve got to give it a week to see if they’re going anywhere.

Puebla tonight has an Ultimo Guerrero vs Euforia match.

CMLL confirmed the Arena Coliseo Guadalajara show will take place on June 21st, and will include Mistico. It’ll be the 63th anniversary of the building’s opening.

Auditorio de Tijuana had a CMLL-focused show by new local promotion Coloso. Los Micro Gemelos Diablos were listed on the show; they didn’t appear, said to be due to flight issues. The Micro Gemelos hasn’t appeared in CMLL since April 19th, and CMLL’s run only one Micros match since that time. They are listed on a show in Acapulco later this month.

CMLL’s YouTube upload of the May 20th has no sound. My best guess is some stock music triggered YouTube into blocking all of the audio. (There are no ads in the video, which also points it to being an issue on YouTube’s side.) CMLL could fix it but I wouldn’t expect it to be a priority.

AAA

This week’s AAA show was a bit better than last week. Fenix, Laredo Kid, and Heavy Metal against Psicosis, Abismo Negro Jr. and Arez was a lot of fun; I was left wishing Arez wasn’t joining Fenix so we could see them wrestle more. Arez definitely split with the Vipers at the end of the match, though only left it unclear if he was joining the tecnicos.

Aramis/Willie Mack was a Willie Mack showcase. Toscano popping up to attack Mack felt like they were just trying to find a way to get Toscano on the show with no real plan beyond it. Dragon Lee & Dralistico vs Bestia 666 & Toxin vs Antifaz & Flamita was a fine eight-minute match but didn’t come across as special on video.

Space announced they’ll air TripleMania on June 18th, as they do with all big AAA shows. They did not announce a start time. They did list four matches: the two mask semifinals, the women’s mask match and the Hardys match. It’s not a long card, but that leaves Copa TripleMania, the set up to the women’s mask match and Vikingo/Fenix/Laredo/Bandito/Taurus as exclusive to FITE live (and all will probably air the following week.)

AAA is offering discounts on selected TripleMania Tijuana tickets. They did this with the Monterrey show – both TripleMania and the most recent Showcenter event. The next Showcenter’s show is also doing a “4 tickets for the price of 3” offer. AAA’s either having trouble selling tickets or purposefully opening with high prices with the plan of lowering them after the hardcore have already spent their money. Your interpretation may vary, but people planning on going to TripleMania Mexico City should probably wait to buy if they’re not too particular on where they’re sitting.

The Tijuana show will have a Meet and Greet with the Hardy Boys.

Villano IV feels he was overconfident against LA Park and didn’t go for the win when he had the chance. He going to focus against Psycho Clown and believes he’s going to win.

Ciber fouled his partner Pirata, costing them the match, then challenged him for his Rey del Ring title.

More Black Generation in IWRG seems like a good thing. It’s probably also building to the 07/01 Big Lucha Anniversary show. Maravilla, Yutani and Gravity all added their names to the (likely) Big Lucha anniversary cage apuesta match at a spot show this past weekend.

Other

Esfinge announced he got a visa approved, while Ciclope & Mideo Extremo returned to GCW this weekend. Toxin said something similar last week. These are related events. The US government approved a group visa for over 40 Mexican luchadors this past week and wrestlers have started to announce they’re available. It’s linked to a US promotion, so there are names from CMLL, AAA and lots of independent names included. I generally feel like it’s better for people involved to announce themselves. Hijo del Vikingo is not on the list; his case is among a group of others that have been stuck waiting for an answer for a while.

Box y Lucha 3508 treats Copa Dinastia like a huge deal on their cover.

A lucha libre fan fest and show in Leon headlined by Hijo del Santo, Octagon, and Octagon Jr. against Mesias, Hijo de Fishman, and Bobby Lee Jr. was said to draw around 4,000 people. They did various mask match challenges after that main event, none of look likely to happen because there are rarely big shows in Leon outside of annual events like this show.

LA Park, speaking on Juventud Guerrera’s YouTube channel, said he never had an interest in going to WWE because they’d just use him to put over John Cena and Randy Orton. He was a bit more profane than this summary.

Microman says he’d like to team with or wrestle Mascarita Dorada.

Hijo del Santo’s trip to Dragongate will be on both July 30th and July 31st in Kobe. Dragongate also announced La Estrella and Takuma Fujiwara would be coming to Mexico for an indefinite time. Previous Dragon Gate wrestlers appeared in IWRG and any indie that’d give them work.

Johnny Progress (Caballero) beat Jack Evans in the first round of Progress’ Super Strong Style tournament on Friday, then Aramis on Saturday. Evans & Aramis teamed on Sunday to defeat Kid Lykos & Kid Lykos II.

Friends and family of Acapulco luchador Sexy Lola (Andrews Ayala Silva) blocked a road on Sunday to demand answers for his disappearance. Police tried to break up the blockade, which led to violence on both sides. Sexy Lola is said to have disappeared just on Saturday. It’s left unclear why his friends and family were protesting when he’d been missing less than a day. Other articles on the situation mention other underinvestigated missing people, so perhaps it’s a greater police issue locally.

La Estrella de Panama has an interview with local luchador Sandokan, who was one of the big stars during the 70s/80s Panama lucha libre boom. It’s not really explained in the article, but UWA/Promociones Mora exchanged talent with a promoter in Panama early on in the promotion’s history. It allowed Francisco Flores to push the idea the UWA was as international as the EMLL/NWA and it gave the Panama promotion access to names their fans had read about in magazines but rarely got to see in person. Sandokan (Osvaldo Espinosa) says he and Anibal drew 15,000 for a match in 1976 at Gimansion Nuevo Panama, which is probably an overstatement but not impossible. The Panama business went down in the late 80s; Sandokan blames it on bad business decisions by both wrestlers and luchadors.

Sandokan says he had to work hard to keep up with the great Mexicans, but the few problems he had with fellow wrestlers were also always the Mexicans. There’s a mention of a dressing room fight with Rene Guajardo and an allusion to some issue with Ventarron. The biggest incident was with a wrestler Sandokan calls “Principe Islam”, who threw a glass cup at Sandokan during a match. Sandokan was left with a cut on his head and scar on his arm. The officials stopped the match, Sandokan got stitches, and then the rematch got out of control too. Principe Islam was suspended by the commission. “Principe Islam” is a frequent misinterpretation of “Principe Island”, one of LA Park’s many prior gimmicks. He’s been like this forever.
