CMLL Tuesday results, Big Lucha debut lineup, Andrade/AEW

CMLL (TUE) 07/06/2021 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Pequeño Olímpico & Pequeño Violencia b Acero & Aéreo
2) Diamond, Oro Jr., Robin b Akuma, Espanto Jr., Nitro
3) Dark Magic, Okumura, Vangellys b Drone, El Audaz, Magia Blanca
rudos took 1/3
4) Blue Panther Jr., Dark Panther, Stuka Jr. DQ Luciferno, Pólvora, Terrible
tecnicos took 2/3, Terrible unmasked Stuka Jr. for the DQ
5) Euforia, Gemelo Diablo I, Gemelo Diablo II b Dulce Gardenia, Titán, Valiente
rudos took 1/3.

Maybe these are just five match shows now? Los Ingobernables are set on losing by DQ or win by cheating. Nothing much of note here.

No full results from Guadalajara. Silueta did win the Occidente Women’s Championship, as expected for the biggest local name in the tournament. They did bring in Lola Gonzalez to award the title (which looks to be a new belt.) The Queretaro guys were said to get money thrown in the ring, though it was a Queretaro site saying that.

CMLL has 11 guests on Informa today. There is no capacity limit there.

Thursday’s night IWRG card

IWRG (THU) 07/08/2021 Arena Naucalpan
1) Caballero de Plata & Epidemia vs Black Shadow II & Shalom
2) Bengalee & Diosa Quetzal vs Diosa Atenea & Satania
3) Black Dragón, Legendario, Puma de Oro vs Gravity, Lunatik Fly, Tonalli and Hernan, Hijo De Payaso Purasanta, Payaso Purasanta Jr.
4) Apolo Estrada Jr., Atomic Star, Chris Stone Jr. vs Guerrero Azteca, Hijo De Pandemónium, Pandemónium [super libre]
5) Diva Salvaje & Jessy Ventura vs Dinamic Black & Toxin and Cerebro Negro & Dr. Cerebro

Dinamic Black has gone from not being booked to being a main eventer because someone else isn’t around, which could say something about how arbitrary these distinctions are for a place the size of IWRG. I figured out the Apolo Estrada Jr. team is the Reyes del Norte unit (because they said it last week, that was the clue.)

Pentagon was apparently at the AAA TV tapings this week; it looks like just the second day of tapings, so it may be a couple of weeks before he starts appearing. Penta & Eddie Kingston face the Young Bucks tonight on AEW Dynamite for the tag team titles; it would be a big surprise if Penta & Kingston won the titles. They’re solidly slotted as people who can challenge for belts on a big show but never actually win them.

Andrade also makes his AEW debut against Matt Sydal, which feels like his most important match in quite some time. I haven’t thought much of Andrade’s presentation, but the match seems more meaningful. Sydal’s been great in AEW of late so the expectations for the match are suitably high. If it goes poorly, the lead-up isn’t that important. if it goes great, everyone makes the same “that’s what he should’ve been doing from the start” point and forgets about exactly what he was doing.  I’m most curious if there’s a specific plan coming out of it for a PPV program, or if Andrade will be one of those many guys floating around in AEW until they specifically have a need for him.

Big Lucha (SAT) 07/17/2021 Bandido Gym, Iztapalapa, Distrito Federal
1) Skayde vs Mil Almas
2) Cometa Maya, Gravity, Orbita vs Chaman, El Bendito, Elemental
3) Demonio Infernal, Trauma I, Trauma II vs ?, La Bestia Del Ring, La Máscara
4) Ciclón Ramírez Jr. & Komander vs Emperador Azteca & Flamita [super libre]
5) El Bandido vs Rush vs Fresero Jr.

This is the first officially Big Lucha card, a Bandido-produced show. It’s also already out of date with Trauma II hurt, maybe Baby Extreme ends up in that spot. It should draw well with Rush’s first appearance in Mexico in a very long time and facing Bandido after whatever happens in their title match this week.

Laredo Kid faces Danny Limelight on the same night for Martinez Entertainment. Flamita is listed on the poster and on the Big Lucha show, which isn’t physically possible.

RIOT La Rina tournament (08/20-21), a 12 person tournament

  1. Erik Ortiz
  2. El Mago
  3. Jimmy
  4. Tromba
  5. Demonio del Aire (Baby Xtreme)
  6. Tonalli – new

Tonalli was the runner-up in IWRG’s Tryout competition who’s gotten good marks since then as a rudo.

KAOZ is teasing a new signing. Like with IWRG, I’m not sure what the wrestlers are getting except a headache, but it is possible the new signing is Baby Xtreme as a continuation to that drama. This is a real situation, though one which will inevitably end with everyone working with each other once again.

ESTO interviews Bestia 666 and Damian 666, who say they’ve actually been busier in the last few months than before the pandemic, though the work is generally coming in the US and not all in Tijuana.

The Puebla Box y Lucha commission reports local wrestler Porthos Jr. (Felipe Meléndez Viviano, 62) passed away on Monday. He was an Arena Puebla luchador in the 70s/80s, most often listed just as Porthos.

Guatemalan luchador Pescador de Palopo passed away.

Mas Lucha has a new episode of En+carados. Hugo and Jose Manuel Guillen pop on for a little while and mention there were transmission issues that caused Verano de Escandalo to start late.

Segunda Caida reviews the 04/25 Lucha Memes show.

LuchaWorld has this week’s Poster-Mania.
