TripleMania status (remains unclear), Discovery, empty arena shows, invisible man

AAA would move the date of TripleMania if quarantine required it, according to Dorian Roldan in an interview with Record. Roldan says they have not reached a decision yet but they’re not anchored to having the show take place on the announced August 22nd date. That’s still four months away and AAA’s going to wait until they get closer.

It’s unclear what would need to happen for AAA to feel comfortable running the show. It reads as though an empty arena TripleMania, similar to WWE’s WrestleMania, is very unlikely. I’m less sure if this means AAA would be willing to run TripleMania with a reduced amount of fans or if they’d push it back in hopes of running a normally attended show later.

Dorian Roldan also mentioned their lesson from Lucha Fighter was that AAA fans like 1v1 matches. Also, he said no one in AAA was forced to participate on those shows.

Tinieblas Jr. believes there will be no big lucha libre shows the rest of the year, and does not believe even the smaller shows will go well for the promoters; he believes it’ll be impossible to run a profitable show while maintaining social distance.

Larry Csonka, whose work was seen on 411 Mania, passed away. He wrote a voluminous amount of wrestling show reviews for nearly two decades. He watched and wrote about everything that aired on US TV, an impossible task he someone pulled off week after week. He did it while being a husband and father and while managing the loss off a leg. Larry was kind enough to have me on his podcast a few times in the last year – even while covering an incredible amount of wrestling, he wanted to talk about more stuff he didn’t cover – and was generous when I was criminally late to one appearance. I never got to meet him otherwise, but he was great whenever we interacted on Twitter. He’ll be missed.

There’s an empty arena show in Xochimilco on Saturday, with Shun Skywalker & Thunder Storm against Ciclonico & Vampiro Metalico.

The Junior Brazos are also running an empty arena show at some point. Their publicity doesn’t mention a date. It also mentions it as being on YouTube “Bad Boys”. There’s no link and searching Bad Boys on YouTube only gets videos from the movie of the name.

+LuchaTV points out Arena San Juan Pantitlan has gotten a remodeling during the break. It’s mostly cleaning and repainting; it’s very yellow now. The seats have also been fixed and affixed to the floor. There is no word if they fixed the bathrooms.

Lucha Libre Vanguardia announced GCW’s Invisible Man will be coming to their June show. Shocking revelation: there is no Invisible Man. This is a wrestler (and a referee) pantomiming a wrestling match with an invisible person. It can be amusing if done correctly, though Vanguardia’s struggles with important the Bloodsport concept has me skeptical. At least this will only require a couple of people to get the concept, instead of a whole tournament. I’m curious to how the rest of lucha libre is going to take it when they see it for the first time; there are people who are will absolutely hate it.

I was wrong when I said Freedoms wasn’t available legally prior to being added to IndependentWrestling.TV this upcoming month; they’ve also been available on NicoNico.

This headline on this article with Colombian luchador Tony Stallone joining AAA.
