Rush ROH champion again, CMLL weekend results

CMLL (SAT) 02/29/2020 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Bengala & Leono b Apocalipsis & Príncipe Odín Jr.
2) Kaligua, Shockercito, Último Dragóncito b Mercurio, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pierrothito
Kaligua replaced Fantasy. Tecnicos took 2/3.
3) Cancerbero, Raziel, Tiger b Diamond, Eléctrico, Magia Blanca
tecnicos took 1/3
4) Audaz DQ Okumura [lightning]
Okumura unmasked Audaz for the DQ.
5) Mephisto, Templario, Terrible b Atlantis Jr., Diamante Azul, Titán
Diamante Azul replaced Valiente (injury). Rudos took 1/3, the last when Azul had the ropes while being pinned.
6) Euforia, Forastero, Último Guerrero b Ángel de Oro, Flyer, Niebla Roja
Forastero used the ropes to beat Niebla Roja for the second straight weeks, setting up a title match

Audaz & Okumura talk about the apuesta match they are not having. Forastero is sure this is the time he’s going to win the big singles match. Niebla Roja sort of promises he’ll cheat next week.

CMLL (SUN) 03/01/2020 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Retro & Robin b Cholo & Príncipe Odín Jr.
tecnicos took 1/3
2) Arkalis, Magnus, Starman DQ Disturbio, El Coyote, Grako
Starman’s first match here since July 2018. He won in 1/3, Disturbio fouling him.
3) Audaz, Dulce Gardenia, Flyer b Dark Magic, Espíritu Negro, Vangellys
tecnicos took 2/3
4) Esfinge b Rey Bucanero [lightning]
Esfinge replaced Valiente (injury)
5) Hechicero, Mephisto, Terrible b Kráneo, Star Jr., Stuka Jr.
rudos took 1/3
6) Ángel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Soberano Jr. DQ Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón
tecnicos took 1/3, the last when Forastero unmasked Soberano.

Starman talks about his return. Esfinge says it’s big for him to beat Rey Bucanero.

Starman immediately getting into a feud with Disturbio suggests he may be coming back just for a mask match to end his career. It’s not certain, since Disturbio losses those apuesta matches a fair bit (and just had a new kid)

Rush is a two-time ROH World Champion, defeating PCO for the title on Saturday night. Nick Aldis got involved with the finish because PCO is facing him at the 04/04 Supercard of Honor show. Mark Haskins was also in the match and did not get pinned, which gets him the title shot on the 03/13 ROH PPV, which is the next show. Dragon Lee defeated Dak Draper to keep the ROH TV title. Rey Horus & Bandido lost to Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham.

Ultimo Dragon will wager his mask against’s Veneno’s hair as this year’s Dragonmania match. That’s not an equal wager but Dragon’s not losing so it’s fine.

The Arena Queretaro TAO/CMLL show on Saturday was a sell out. That had Caristico & Atlantis Jr. vs Sanson & Cuatrero as the main event.

Cassandra lost her hair in the Arena San Juan Pantitlan cage match to India Sioux.

The 07/05 IWRG show will be the Festival of Mascaras show (everyone gets to wear their own masks.) Gran Hamada will be honored on that show; he was on tonight’s as well.

Penta & Fenix went all the way to Chicago to do a 50 second run-in on the AEW PPV. Good work if you can get it. Earlier in the week, Cody Rhodes, the Young Bucks, and Excalibur did a panel at the C2E2 pop culture expo. The Bucks pop quizzed Excalibur on who he’s seen from PWG that would be a good fit for AEW. Excalibur picked Aramis. It’s not the first time Aramis’ name has come up in relation to AEW. Worth noting that Aramis is not signed to AAA, as mentioned on the +LuchaTV podcast this week.

Wrestle-1 announced earlier this they would close after their 04/01 show. All wrestlers are being released from their contracts. Most wrestlers will just try to catch on with other companies. For Hijo del Pantera, this means he’ll have to leave Japan. The son of Pantera II has been in Japan for the last year and a half and had been working off and on with Wrestle-1 since the promotion began in 2013. He’s a guy who seemed to very much enjoy his time in Japan and prefers working there. Wrestle-1 was never a promotion that had any attention in Mexico; he’s always been the luchador working Japan that people would forget was there. Hijo del Pantera has a vlog up talking about the situation and is looking for work from interested promoters. Hijo del Pantera was good in the matches I’ve seen and would be a good fit in the upper-level indie promotions, but it’d take someone taking a chance on a guy who may not be known as well. Hope he gets those shots.

Torreon luchador Dulce Paola held a press conference to complain he hasn’t been supported by the promoter or the commission after suffering a right shoulder injury on 02/09 in Arena Coliseo Laguna. The promoter is named as Israel Gamez. Paola claims there was a paramedic but no medical equipment or ambulance and it took 45 minutes for one to get there. Paola says he’s been threatened by other wrestlers and promoters since the injury.

Dorian Roldan’s plan for the AAA eSports effort in 2020 is monetizing it.

+Lucha writes about the success of Los Nomads despite limited television exposure.

El Universal has a long bio on Sexy Star.

Lineups

Lucha Memes (SUN) 03/08/2020 Coliseo Coacalco, Coacalco, Estado de México
1) Multy & Prayer vs Avisman & Robin Maravilla [sin cuerdas]
2) Arkángel Divino & Último Maldito vs Garrobo Punk & Gremlin and Alas de Acero & Iron Kid
3) Black Terry & Negro Navarro vs Belial & Impulso
4) Ricky Marvin vs Perro de Guerra
5) Virus vs Judas el Traidor
6) Arez vs Titán (CMLL)
7) Aramis vs Atlantis Jr.

Interested in finding out what Atlantis can do outside of the CMLL environment, or he’s been training by CMLL to do nothing else. I’m still not sure how Arez versus Titan can happen but I hope they pull it off. The opener is a no ropes match.

This show – Chairo Kingdom – is notable to still be happening in Coliseo Coacalco despite whatever was treated by the commission after the 24×7 stuff on the last show. Meanwhile, the Chilanga Mask Anniversary show had originally been advertised here and quietly has been moved to Arena San Juan on 05/16. (Guerrero Maya vs Black Terry vs Camuflaje is the first match.) Last year’s Chilanga Mask show had the main event stopped by the building owner because of the extreme spots and it appears Chilanga Mask has been asked to run their show elsewhere this year.

Mexa Wrestling (SAT) 03/14/2020 Arena San Juan Pantitlan, Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, Estado de México
1) Águila Oriental, Dinámico, Noicy Boy, Spider Fly vs Infest, Legendario, Sherekan, Zika
2) Black Warrior Jr. & Brazo De Oro Jr. vs Atomic Star & Baby Star and Canival & Teelo
3) Hija De Gatubela & Perla Lagunera vs Hahastary & Sucii Love
4) Trauma I & Trauma II vs Centvrión & Metaleón
5) Negro Casas vs Fulgor I
6) Dragón Bane, Hijo de Canis Lupus, Séptimo Dragón vs Arcángel Divino, Baby Xtreme, Último Maldito
7) Fly Warrior, Príncipe Aéreo, Puma de Oro vs Fly Star, Lunatik Xtreme, Sobredosis [super libre]

That top match will have people jumping off high place. That semi-main will have every bad indie lucha cliche possible. (It does seem a waste to bring Baby Xtreme down from Monterrey just to put him in a random trios but perhaps that’s part of a deal with the Monterrey show.) I think I like more of the undercard than the top matches.

Fuglor I was recently bemoaning his lack of matches this year and got a big one.
