lucha TV preview for weekend of December 12th, 2019

full size

This Saturday closes out the year for AAA on Twitch. Guerra de Titanes should be good, though maybe you need to watch it live. AAA hasn’t announced the next show (seems like a thing to do!) and may not run again to the 18th or 25th. $5 only gets you only this show. On the other hand, maybe the climactic Big Mami/Lady Maravilla match is worth $5.

This might be it for Nacion Lucha Libre (again.) I don’t list matches because it’s never clear what’s going to air. It’s never even clear what’s taped, there’s usually a couple of matches which are only known to happen when they turn up on TV. Still, it looks like there’s only one more week of TV left from the 11/24 taping. It’s not fatal to take time off during the holidays, but they’ve been on shaky ground all along that quietly disappearing always seems like the endpoint. It might be time for them to disappear from this list.

Titan versus Soberano seems more likely to air on the 7 pm CMLL Sunday show of the two.

CMLL adds Micro championship, La Parka update, Angelico

El Planchitas says La Parka is out of the hospital and recovering in a house in Monterrey owned by AAA. Their reporting says AAA has covered everything and everything is a lot: expenses are said to be “over 3 million pesos” ($157,000).

Angelico does not appear to be going to Guerra de Titanes. This is weeks old news, something I only noticed when checking to see if he had mentioned the show at all. He did, just by responding to a fan’s tweet saying he would not be on the show. Angelico coming back to AAA always was strange given the seemingly rough feelings on both sides preceding his exit. That leaves it unclear who teams with Australian Suicide in the tag title match on Saturday. Vanilla being in the match would be surprising and unlikely. Jack Evans is probably not coming back to AAA. It is likely someone being moved up, but there are so many people who could be thrown in.

CMLL Informa announced the missing New Year’s Day match: Caristico & Mistico making their first tag team title defense against Forastero & Cuatrero. That title match and the two apuesta matches are going to make for a big show. (One I think I’m missing live.)

CMLL also revealed the first match for their Christmas Day show: a battle to determine the first-ever CMLL Micros champion. The belt was revealed on CMLL Informa. No names were announced but presumably, it’s the same six to eight people who are always in this match. The micros could use more variety (and more good variety), but adding a championship at least suggests an investment in continuing to build it. Chamuel winning seems like the way to go. The one story worth telling is Microman overcoming Chamuel for the title, and it doesn’t seem like concluding the story on day one is a way to go.

This does not include the Occidente (Guadalajara) championships. It also doesn’t count the various tournaments, including the two Universal tournaments where the prizes are actual belts.

The most recent Arena Coliseo Tag Team Champions were Triton & Esfinge, so Triton leaving has left those belts on the sideline. Those titles have been put on the shelf before. It may be the same again. Kawato San is the only person bringing up the lightweight title. CMLL’s run so many other tournaments that they may have just not had a chance to decide it. The most surprising bit to me is every CMLL championship will have been contested at least once this year following Saturday’s Caristico/Cuatrero match. That doesn’t seem to happen every year.
