divided crowd

This one didn’t stream live – +LuchaTV was doing the Welcome to My Barrio final instead, AYM/InternetTV did not, maybe that’s an MDA decision? Turnout wasn’t so great, perhaps because lack of interest in the lineup or more interest in other ones. Next week is the LA Park/Blue Demon match. Rebelion/Mexablood was said to be good.

Arena Puebla last night saw Forastero and partners work together to cheat Caristico out of a win. That sets up a rematch tonight, with Cuatrero, Ephesto and Forastero against Caristico, Star Jr. and Titan. It is hard to keep track of the Forastero single feuds: he’s face Caristico twice in Arena Mexico, but it was Mistico who had the recent Arena Puebla match. He wins none of these, but he does win the setup trios matches.

The semi-main looks the best of the rest, with Atlantis, Soberano, Stuka versus Felino, Negro Casas and Hechicero. The tercera has an unpromising mix of Audaz, Black Panther and Drone against Mascara 2000, Universo and Virus. The second match is a strange DF rudos (Akuma, Espanto, Espiritu Negro) versus Puebla rudos (Perverso, Policeman, Rey Apocalipsis), which could be foreshadowing a holiday cage match or could be completely pointless. I guess both are truly possible. Asturiano pops up in the opener. The show streams at the regular 9 pm spot.

CMLL will make it clear at Wednesday press conference, but this may be the first year in a few where none of the Arena Puebla shows get replaced by Arena Mexico due to holidays. Chrismas and New Years are on Wednesdays, so it’ll probably be the Tuesday shows moved a day later. (CMLL Informa will get moved or canceled for a couple of weeks, the true tragedy.) Three Kings Day is a Monday, but it’s possible CMLL will just make the Sunday show that celebration and stream it.

NJPW announced Jushin Thunder Lyger & Naoki Sano vs Hiromu Takahashi & Ryu Lee.

Dr. Landru of The Gladiatores & IWRG reported late last night Dragon Bane & Hijo de Canis Lupus will be heading to Chicago’s AAW during the first third of the year and two NOAH wrestlers will come to IWRG sometime between March & April. There’s an obviously opening for a new pair of Mexican luchador brothers with the famous duo perhaps not taking as many indie bookings going forward. AAW has shows announced for 01/24, 02/21, and 03/20; there’s probably a weekend in there where GAW/Lucha Libre Total is also running for them to work twice. Kinda wonder if doubling up with something else is part of the NOAH deal as well; they’re probably not flying to North America to work in Arena Naucalpan alone.

A clipped version of the Dragon Bane vs Hijo de Canis Lupus match from Sunday is on NOAH’s YouTube channel. This is not the match IWRG posted. Seemed like everyone liked it, though the top YouTube comment when I saw it was someone pointing out how “kind” Lupus was for rolling into position for Bane’s finish.

Cuervo de Puerto Rico, who retired and unretired in the last week, is now booked for a 12/14 show in Puerto Rico.

Back on October 26th, there was a lucha libre show at Puebla’s Internacional Baroque Museum that turned into a local controversy. It came off as a class “lucha libre is going to soil the image of this museum” argument, though there was a bit of dispute if the local government should putting money towards for lucha libre. That last part caused Diario Cambio to file an information request to find out exactly what this show cost:

The lucha libre part of the event cost 511,814 pesos ($26,591.88 USD.)

  • 193,372 to the wrestlers (Octagon, Atlantis and Rey Bucanero among them) and other wrestling staff, as well as the ring and associated staff
  • 209,999 for assembly/disassembly of the stage, the lightning and anything else that was part of the makeshift arena (in the parking lot of the museum)
  • 109,443 for a giant canopy that covered the ring and the ringside area.

The information request estimated 1,200 people attended the show.

Diario de Xalapa has a profile of eight (8) year old luchador Jarochito.

It is kind of strange to do this title match and have Caristico take a loss, but that has to be the outcome.
