MexWrestling second anniversary looks like a giant success. The crowd here not only outdrew the random Thursday CMLL show here, but also seemed to do better than both the Arena Lopez Mateos the same night (Caristico and family headlining) and the Arena Neza show on Sunday (with a AAA C-crew.) Bandido & Aramis was said to live up to expectations, the three way was good, the guys who had the crazy opener had a less perfect but still fun rematch, and the crowd seemed to care about the main event. No next date was announced but the word is they’re working on a show during the holidays.

The Gladiatores interviewed Flamita at this show. There are three questions worth asking Flamita at the moment. They asked all three. Here’s my attempt at translation

  • on Ring of Honor: Flamita says he was offered a contract following the UK tour, and we’ll be seeing him a lot there. He hopes MexaBlood will go after the tag titles.
    • Bandido hasn’t yet signed with Ring of Honor or anyone else, but I also believe his contract might last a few months longer than wildly assumed (including by myself)
  • on TripleMania Regia: Flamita says he missed the show due to a family situation that left him unable to communicate with AAA all day, only talking to them after. He has since been pulled from all AAA shows. Flamita seems to want to find a solution to get back working with AAA.
  • on going to CMLL: Flamita congratulates Bandido on living out his dream as returning to Arena Mexico as a star and allows that you never know what’ll happen in the future, but it sounds more like something in Flamita’s past and he’s not interested in for the future

CMLL (SAT) 12/07/2019 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Apocalipsis & Inquisidor b Bengala & Leono
2) Magnus, Retro, Sonic b Cholo, Disturbio, El Coyote
Disturbio replaced Grako. Tecnicos took 2/3.
3) Estrellita, La Jarochita, Sanely b La Infernal, La Seductora, Metálica
a straight fall win for the tecnicas!
4) Fuego DQ Kawato San [lightning]
Kawato tried to foul Fuego, didn’t work, but he did unmask him anyway.
5) Gran Guerrero, Templario, Último Guerrero b Ángel de Oro, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stuka Jr.
rudos took 1/3.
6) Carístico, Niebla Roja, Valiente b Cuatrero, Forastero, Mephisto
Caristico beat Cuatrero in two straight falls (unclear if the match only had two falls), setting up a title match

Fuego is not totally coherent in his promoCuatrero accepts the title match challenge.

Caristico is the current NWA Middleweight Championship, so he would be going for a chance to be double champion (and almost certainly will not actually be double champion.)

CMLL (SUN) 12/08/2019 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Arkalis & Halcón Suriano Jr. b Akuma & Yago
tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Amapola, Dalys, La Comandante b La Guerrera, La Magnifica, La Vaquerita
Rudas took 1/3.
3) Dark Magic, Okumura, Pólvora b Black Panther, Blue Panther Jr., Fuego
rudos won in straight falls?
4) Atlantis Jr., Dulce Gardenia, Rey Cometa DQ Hijo del Villano III, Kawato San, Vangellys
straight falls, Kawato DQed in both attacking Dulce.
5) Titán b Soberano Jr. [CMLL WELTER, final]
Titan took falls 1/3 to win the vacant title (Dragon Lee), becoming the 34th champ.
6) Gran Guerrero, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero b Ángel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Valiente
rudos took 1/3

Titan is thankful for his win. Dulce Gardenia and Kawato San talk up that feud.

The main event will air next week. CMLL did give a lot of time to the cibernetico, so cross your fingers that they’ll avoid doing something like airing the tercera on two different shows and cutting down the title match to ten minutes. (The third fall seemed to go really long between Twitter updates, but I think that was more of getting the post match photos than it going super long.)

Titan had great runs as champion before. He’ll have another if CMLL decides to book defenses. This continues Titan sliding into Dragon Lee’s old shoes by taking over his title belt.

Dragon Lee appeared via video on today’s NJPW show. He introduced himself under the name of “Ryu Lee”, and asked for a match with Jushin Thunder Lyger before he retires. Lyger agreed, though seemed to want to face Hiromu Takahashi as well. NJPW announced Lyger for a tag match the on 01/04 show, so this would be taking place on the 01/05 if it’s on the Dome shows. NJPW will be holding a press conference to talk about those lineups at 12:01 AM Monday, so the full card may be out there before you read this post. “Ryu” translates to Dragon; this is “Toryumon” going to “Dragon Gate” but in reverse. It’s unclear if Dragon/Ryu Lee will be using this name change everywhere, though the copyright issues in Mexico & the US suggest he might need to make that change.

Dragon Lee’s believed to be signed by NJPW for a one year deal, though NJPW and Dragon Lee haven’t made that official yet. (It may be also happening at that press conference for all I know.) NJPW and Dragon Lee were always going to keep their relationship going; the positive news here is CMLL hasn’t lost their relationship with NJPW in the process.

WWE’s Sin Cara, better known in Mexico as Mistico de Juarez, was released from his WWE contract. There’s an obvious high profile feud possible between him and the man he replaced as Sin Cara, Caristico. It seems unlikely to happen in CMLL; they’re unlikely to pay what he’ll be looking for coming out of WWE. It’s possible a Generacion XXI-like indie promoter may try to put it together, though two different Misticos may not be on good terms. There’s not as obvious space for Sin Cara in AAA but they tend to want to bring in notable people. He also is a friend of Alberto’s, attending his MMA bout, and showing up in groups he’s affiliated with is a possibility. That includes both the wrestling and MMA groups

Dulce Garcia won her second MMA fight. Alberto el Patron lost his. The show did air on Televisa in Mexico so there might a big ratings number at some point, but I don’t get the sense the MMA fights have any buzz among Mexican lucha libre fans.

On the Welcome To My Barrio farewell show, Magneto lost his mask to Adrenlina. Magneto is Christian Iván Rodríguez López, 30, from Mexico City, 10 years a wrestler.

Carta Brava Jr. (AAA version) took Sniper’s hair in Guadalajara.

Leon Rojo lost his hair to Mr. Condor in Zona 23. Or at least that was idea – Zona 23 gave Leon Rojo a reprieve until there’s a rematch.

Back near the end of October, the Tijuana Lucha Libre commissioner Alejandro Davila was quoted as wanting to make some changes – no mixed matches, no extreme matches. This reules never seemed to be actually applied. About six weeks later, El Sol de Tijuana reports a René Cubillas López is the new Tijuana Lucha Libre commission. The overall box and lucha commissioner Carlos Labastida noted “there were many complaints and we tried to fix things.” He calls the new commissioner “someone of trust who wants to do things, and does not want to bring hard to the members of the commissioner.” That sure sounds like the promotions got Alejandro Davila disposed of quickly.
