Media interviews:

This was definitely an easy financial successful show. The turnout was huge, with the upper levels filled like they rarely air. (CMLL posted photos of the big house later after but didn’t call as much attention to it during the show as they do normally during big shows; perhaps they were caught off guard.) It wasn’t really evident from the reactions; the legends matches themselves seemed to get quiet reactions. There was whistling at the Solar/Satanico match early during mat work (and also as Hechicero/Star did the same thing), but also polite clapping at portions too. The most over person felt like Alushe, and that was heavily due to Fuerza and others playing off of him.

The quality of the show as a mixed bag. There are worse versions of this show; the antics of Alushe and Fuerza Guerrera got the crowd into a main event that they’ve booed in the recent past. The old wrestlers looked exactly as old as expected, with Los Diabolicos looking as good as they normally do on this show and some others looking slower. The Mano Negra retirement was well done and Solar/Satanico did the match people would expect to see from that. The two best matches to me where the ones featuring the current wrestlers, though the Bandido (re-)debut didn’t go as strong as would be hoped. The first two falls were all building to Bandido finally getting his hands on Ultimo Guerrero, and they promptly botched the first spot they tried. It was also a lot jamming Bandido into the usual CMLL tecnico versus Ultimo Guerrero formula, no different than he just did with Star Jr., and that makes Bandido come off more like just another CMLL high flyer.

CMLL advertised Bandido for next week, then didn’t list him on the poster. He’ll be in Ring of Honor instead, then PWG the following week.

Super Muneco says the person who came up with the idea of a clown gimmick for him was his girlfriend, luchadora Maria de la Angeles. It may have been before they were friends; she was showing him a picture of a luchador named Sanguinario and called the outfit ugly, not realizing that was Muneco’s character at the time. She proposed the clown idea as an improvement, and he liked it based on Cepellin the clown being popular on TV at that time. The name was going to be Muneco Magico, but he was inspired by promotion for one of the Superman movies to go with Super Muneco instead.

6) La Bestia Del Ring, Rush, Taurus b Pagano, Psycho Clown, Puma King Psycho Clown Puma King Pagano vs Rush Bestia del Ring Taurus 2019 (posted by VL300)
Rush & Bestia pulled Pagano and Psycho’s masks to pin them, then betrayed Taurus as well with the idea they won’t get along with anyone in AAA. Konnan joined Rush & Bestia to celebrate after the match.

Flamita didn’t wrestle on the show. On Facebook, Flamita said he was taken off the show the day before for missing TripleMania Regia. It is hard to determine who is the problem here between AAA & Flamita – Flamita may have had a family emergency and AAA could still be frustrated if he didn’t inform them of it – but it does seem like Flamita still wants to work AAA shows at this point (and so, doesn’t seem like a guy about to show in CMLL.)

Maybe around half full? Tough to tell. At least on this show in Tijuana, the idea of Psycho vs Rush didn’t appear to be a special draw.

Shows of note this weekend include MexaWrestling’s big show in Arena San Juan, the Titan/Soberano match in Arena Mexico, and the MDA show with the Octagons vs the Traumas in Naucalpan,

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 12/13/2019 Arena México
1) Retro & Robin vs Akuma & Yago
2) Pegasso, Príncipe Diamante, Stigma vs Disturbio, Nitro, Virus
3) Dulce Gardenia, Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa vs Kawato San, Okumura, Tiger
4) Stuka Jr. vs Felino [lightning]
5) Ángel de Oro, Diamante Azul, Niebla Roja vs Cuatrero, Forastero, Gran Guerrero
6) Carístico, Negro Casas, Valiente vs Euforia, Soberano Jr., Último Guerrero [Relevos Increíbles]

A strange lineup to be sure. Angel de Oro & Felino are both booked but not again each other. Dulce & Kawato are together but Principe Diamante is without Espiritu Negro. Diamante Azul, who declared he was out injured until 2020, is suddenly back. Maybe this will make more sense after Wednesday’s press conference. It does give me a little pause that some of the obvious feuds may not be going anywhere.

Main event is an increiibles in part to get Euforia & Soberano on the same side. It does continue the Casas/Soberano bit from two weeks ago, and maybe the Euforia/Caristico bit from Tuesday.

  1. Forget Fuerza Guerrera vs. Octagon… promoters need to book F.G. vs Alushe. He was fun to watch.
I haven’t watched all the matches yet. But I did watch the primera and segunda. Los Diabolicos looked alright. But in comparison to many of the legends, they look good. Skayde looked good, too. I hope Super Muñeco hangs up his tights soon. His head-shaking taunt seems to disorient him a bit. Not joking. Ricky Boy wasn’t horrible, but he also didn’t show much charisma.
The segunda was pretty good. Hechicero was great (as always), and Star Jr. keeps improving. I want to see Atlantis Jr. take Sagrado’s mask next year.

  2. Bro, if Alushe, and Fuerza keep getting reactions like that, then I think Fuerza might consider it. I mean who cares if you lose your mask in what is essentially a comedy feud? I’d be down, if the fans are willing to buy a ticket.

  3. Microman uses his newly unlocked rudo powers from last week to jump Alushe, now Kemonito has to choose between justice and his son! And what about Kemonito’s own feelings about Alushe?

Yeah I was a little worried if Muneco was doing his legendary head bobble thing or if he’s picked up a degenerative nerve disorder.
But nobody seems to have been seriously injured, there was some fun stuff to laugh with and laugh laugh at, usually about all you can hope for from Legends shows.
