I had this on while having the TripelMania Regia show on at the same time. It was so confusing. A team of one person who won and one person who was eliminated was peak confusing, though the Traumas losing the finals but walking off with the belts anyway was up there.

The hair match was bloody and the crowd was into it, with Demonio Infernal giving Fresero his first ever hair match loss.

CMLL Puebla tonight Volador versus Euforia. It is technically a fresh singles match, though it doesn’t feel like one because they face fairly in trios matches and nothing novel has been done to build it up. It could be good, they’re both talented enough for it to be good.

The news from the rest of the card is CMLL starting to reveal how they’ll handle Sanson’s absence. NGD is scheduled to face Caristico, Star Jr. and Titan, with no replacement yet announced for the injured Dinamita. Audaz, Esfinge, and Rey Cometa take on Polvora, Vangellys, and Tiger in the fourth match of people going nowhere. Perverso versus Toro Bill Jr. continues Puebla’s recent trend of local rudo versus local rudo matches with no rhyme or reason. There’s two more trios t open up, including a Rey Samuray appearance.

El Planchitas says there was a CMLL meeting Thursday where management laid down new rules to the luchadors. There’s no mention of what those rules actually are, just that it was an accept them or leave deal.

Soberano Jr., Niebla Roja, and Dulce Gardenia are doing an autograph signing on January 18th.

Multimedios posted a story on TripleMania Regia. Dorian Roldan appears at the end to say the show was a success, they plan to repeat and even suggesting the possibility of taking a TripleMania to other locations. (The report also says AAA drew 15,000, so take everything with a grain of salt.) I would be pleasantly surprised if AAA found a way to handle the video/streaming issues next year. The bigger idea is perhaps AAA’s strengthened the TripleMania concept – when/if? AAA runs in the US again, they might as well bill it as a TripleMania, since that’s the brand people know.

Dragon Bane & Hijo de Canis Lupus debut in NOAH tomorrow (morning Mexico Time) in a match against each other. That show is being taped for SamuraiTV and they’re in the semi-main, so it’ll turn up in some form. NOAH’s also started to post matches on YouTube. This is a short nine days tournament for them, with an obvious chance of getting brought back if they do well. The brothers have the talent to be in more promotions, but talent isn’t the only factor. Dragon Bane has privately been criticized by his peers for issues which can broadly summed up as “personality/attitude problems” and “not taking care of his opponents”; I’ve heard more negative about him this year than anyone else around his level. (Anyone who said anything bad about Dragon Bane would always follow up by saying Hijo de Canis Lupus is good and there are no issues with him.) The fear is getting a Japan tour is going to convince him he’s done everything right and make it harder to correct him before it costs him a big chance, though my hope is he’ll follow the pattern of other foreigner wrestlers when they go to Japan and take their suggestions more seriously than they might when hearing it from the usual people. I think Bane & Lupus will be excellent when wrestling each other – it’s got a chance to be a Pentagon/Fenix moment where a whole new group of fans suddenly wants to know everything about them – but how they handle working with others and how Dragon Bane acts when he returns is the bigger test.

One thought to “Rocket & Benjamin become IWRG Tag Champs (don’t get belts?), Volador/Euforia tonight, TripleMania Regia”

  1. Tigres were playing on Sunday night. That had to hurt Regia a little.

More than 50 personalities on the show. That is a big payroll.
