CMLL (& ROH) weekend roundup, next Friday’s lineup

(saving AAA for tomorrow, there’s plenty to read on Twitter already)

CMLL (SAT) 09/07/2019 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Fantasy & Kaligua b Pequeño Olímpico & Pequeño Universo 2000
tecnicos took 2/3
2) Retro, Robin, Sangre Imperial b Inquisidor, Príncipe Odín Jr., Yago
tecnicos took 2/3.
3) Misterioso Jr., Sagrado, Vangellys b Black Panther, Blue Panther Jr., Rey Cometa
rudos took 1/3.
4) Fuego b Disturbio [lightning]
5) Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto b Kráneo, Soberano Jr., Volcano
rudos took 1/3
6) Atlantis, Atlantis Jr., Diamante Azul DQ Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
tecnicos took 2/3, with Casas fouling Azul to set up a match

Diamante Azul vs Negro Casas seems like a bad use of either man.

The Crash (SAT) 09/07/2019 Auditorio de Tijuana, Tijuana, Baja California [@jorgeGCRR, The Crash, Zona Ruda]
1) Miranda Alize & Torito Negro b Terror Azteca & Vipress
2) Ricky Martinez b Dan MoloneyEl Mesías
3) Flamita b Ricky Shane
4) Mr. Iguana, Súper Astro, Súper Astro Jr. b Arandú, Star Boy, Zarco
Super Astro Jr. impressed in a good match
5) Cuatrero & Sansón DQ Trauma I & Trauma II
Cuatrero tossed his mask to the Traumas to draw the DQ
6) Travis Banks, Trent Seven, Tyler Bate b Bestia 666, Mecha Wolf, Rey Horus
very good match

This show sounds like it was pretty good. Turnout was not.

LA Park, Fatu, Jimmy Havoc, Dragon Lee & Barbaro Cavernario were advertised as appearing on the next The Crash show. That’s the MLW TV taping and the first three are regulars there. Fatu was shortly a regular in The Crash before disappearing randomly. Dragon Lee & Cavernario are CMLL regulars and so it’s a bit unexpected to see them work for something being taped for MLW.

CMLL (SUN) 09/08/2019 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Espíritu Negro & Grako b Bengala & Leono
rudos took 1/3
2) Dalys, La Comandante, La Seductora b La Guerrera, La Magnifica, Sanely
rudas took 2/3
3) Flyer, Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa b Disturbio, Olímpico, Universo 2000 Jr.
tecnicos took 2/3
4) Dulce Gardenia b Misterioso [lightning]
Dulce won via kiss.
5) Ángel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Valiente b Felino, La Bestia Del Ring, Terrible
tecnicos took 2/3
6) Euforia, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero b Diamante Azul, Dragón Lee, Místico
Flyer replaced Diaamtne Azul. Rudos took 1/3.

La Magnifica says she’s sticking around in CMLL. (We’ll see if CMLL can decide which side she’s on if she does stick around.) Dulce Gardenia wants a hair vs mask match with Misterioso.

CMLL in ROH results:

Saturday in Chicago

  • Silas Young & Josh Woods b PJ Black & Okumura
  • The Briscoes b the Bouncers and Rey Bucanero & Hechicero
  • Rush b Barbaro Cavernario
  • Jeff Cobb, Jay Lethal, Jonathan Gresham b Caristico, Stuka and Triton
  • Matt Taven b Volador Jr. for the ROH Championship

Either Rush/Cavernario or the trios match might have been the best match. Hechicero was far more over (with largely the local lucha fans) than Volador was in his title match, which a problem with the title match.

Sunday in Milwaukee

  • PJ Black b Flip Gordon & Triton
  • Caristico, Stuka Jr., Volador Jr. b Okumura, Hechicero, Rey Bucanero
  • Bandido, Tracy Williams, Mark Haskins b The Briscoes & Barbaro Cavernario
  • Rush & Jeff Cobb b Matt Taven & Vincent Marseglia

Triton was eating pins every night in his last weekend connected to CMLL. Rey Bucanero isn’t going anywhere but was taking pinfalls a lot – until this night, because Hechicero was the only one on the team who could take a finish from Volador. Hechicero did well and should be back brought back but I don’t know if that’ll happen. The CMLL involvement went generally about what should’ve been expected: fun matches though nothing great (though I haven’t seen all of Milwaukee) and crowds who were mostly unaware of them. There were some lucha libre fans who came out for the CMLL crew in the Chicago show, but it didn’t seem like much and it seemed like even less the other two shows. If the hope was CMLL to be an easy substitute for NJPW, it didn’t seem to meet that goal. If it was more just to continue to strengthen the relationship between the two companies, it seems like that went well.

Pro Wrestling Revolution has Ultimo Dragon vs Hijo del Santo on 10/05 in San Jose.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 09/13/2019 Arena México
1) Robin & Súper Astro Jr. vs Akuma & Espanto Jr.
2) Dulce Gardenia, Esfinge, Fuego vs Disturbio, Sagrado, Tiger
3) Ángel de Oro, Atlantis Jr., Niebla Roja vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
4) Carístico, Dragón Lee, Titán vs Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón
5) Volador Jr. vs Negro Casas [lightning]
6) Cavernario, Ciber the Main Man, Diamante Azul vs Big Daddy, Gilbert el Boricua, Último Guerrero

The CMLL Friday lineups seem to have returned to a Saturday afternoon release schedule.

Big Daddy is working no shows this week outside of Friday, which is a vote of no confidence.

First Volador/Casas match in two years. Casas is going to go under ten minutes, best make it a lightning match.

Match four should be good and the third match should be good.

Esfinge is still around. A bunch of people who seemed to quit Arena Coliseo Guadalajara while his father was in charge made a mass run-in on Sunday’s Guadalajara show, so
