Ciber

There is nothing to write about today, which explains some of the things I’ve written a lot about.

The full four seasons of Lucha Underground are now up on Tubi. It’s an MGM owned service, so that makes some sense, but also means no else one was all that much interested in having this for themselves. (It’s not going back up on Netflix if it’s here for free.) There are ads and this may not be available in all regions.

This has no bearing on Lucha Underground’s chances of returning, which remain extremely remote. If you want to get really depressing about it, note that it was me who brought it to everyone’s attention (though I saw it from this guy’s post) and Lucha Underground still hasn’t mentioned it. No one even bothered to promote TripleMania from those social media accounts. It’s not a thing front-facing people are thinking about it.

Sanchez Promotions has an ad up for an AAA spot show in Arena Neza on Monday, September 16th with plenty of people who might be working elsewhere the day before. Psycho Clown actually hyped this show as being September 15th on the previous AAA Neza spot show, which would’ve been the same day as the AAA show in New York. It is now the day later.

It is possible to make it from New York on Monday morning to Neza in time for this show. I’ve done it from Chicago in the morning to Neza for 5 pm shows. This one starts a couple of hours later. Of course, I was just sitting at that show and these guys actually have to wrestle. It’s possible, it’s probably something Penta & Fenix have already done, it still would seem to be tough to pull it off. It might be meaningful that AAA appeared to not have a spot show after TripleMania this year (the Wagner show was an indie one.)

Anyway, the teaser doesn’t list a lineup but also sort of gives away the lineup? Just look at the photo order:

  • Psycho Clown, Pentagon Jr., Fenix vs LA Park, Hijo de LA Park, LA Park Jr.
  • La Parka, Maximo, Monster Clown vs Murder Clown, Dave the Clown, ? in a relevos increibles match
  • Nino Hamburguesa, Myzteziz, Aerostar vs Poder del Norte
  • Lady Shani & Faby Apache vs Lady Maravilla & Keyra

No idea if Keyra will actually be done.

Konnan & Disco talks about TripleMania in 1 hour 3 minute in Keepin’ It 100 podcast.

  • Konnan mentions he didn’t want Aerostar to do another high dive and found it was happening when he got to the production meeting and was told about the stage for it. He was relieved it went ok.
  • Konnan praises Cain Velasquez, who was doing extra sessions when not asked and came to Mexico in early to do more. Konnan mentions watching videos with Cain at 10 pm at night to watch videos of other matches (including Ronda Rousey’s debut) to get ideas and that Cain is interested in wrestling more, though not only/specifically in AAA.
  • Konnan says he had a conversation early on in the Wagner/Demon feud, convincing Demon to play a full rudo and not just a guy on the rudo side who still slaps hands with the crowd. Konnan said Demon would get to turn back to a tecnico at some point but wanted him to commit to the role. (Demon/Wagner is said to be something given to Konnan to work with and not necessarily something he made.) The original plan for the finish was for a backbreaker onto the brick, but the bricks were too hard. Konnan felt also using the hammer was the best way to get both guys over – Demon for being such an evil guy to use both a brick and a hammer and Wagner being sympathetic for taking it. Both like that the match had blood off the start.
  • Konnan says Kross looked like a star and it parlayed into something really positive for him that he couldn’t talk about the podcast.

The thing that people are upset about in Mexico that doesn’t even register to me as a thing is Wagner & Demon took a photo together the day after TripleMania. They might actually not hate each other, scandalous.

On CMLL Informa, Ciber the Main Man revealed his secret weapon to defeat Ultimo Guerrero on Friday: a cinder block. He and Julio Cesar Rivera joked how it was a real block and not one that falls apart immediately. It’s rare anyone in CMLL acknowledged anything that happened in AAA, but it’s Ciber and he probably felt great mocking it. Also on the show, Mistico again said the reason he (and his father) aren’t wrestling in the US are due to visa issues.

Soberano Jr. was announced for the NJPW Super J-Cup from August 22-25, joining Caristico and Dragon Lee as CMLL reps. There are three spots remaining. I’d be surprised if there was another CMLL luchador.

Akuma talked to Reporte Indigo about life without a mask, crediting big brother Demus for encouraging him to reinvent himself. The Beast Mode nickname explicitly comes from former NFL player Marshawn Lynch. Akuma says he’s studying English and does not say what injury he suffered.

NXT UK’s Trent Seven & Tyler Bate return to The Crash on 09/07. Those two are over in North America as part of working a tour, and that’s the next The Crash show. This is interesting coming off the Rebelion Amarilla reunion bit a few weeks ago, though The Crash also just really likes booking big names. Seven & Bate are technically representing Seven.

Cain Velasquez talked about his match with ESPN, mentions he learned the huracanrana one day before the show.

LuchaWorld has the latest edition of their podcast.

  1. “And so the Cement Brick era of lucha libre became the predominant force of pro wrestling at the dawn of the 2020s.”
