What happened:
Tiger takes out Triton with what appears to be a routine superkick to the chest midway thru the first fall. Best guess is the back of Triton’s head hit the mat falling down, but it’s never really clear. Triton seems barely conscious on the mat for the next 20 seconds, and no one really knows how to react outside of stalling. He eventually recovers enough to tag out. Triton lays and knees on the mat while Esfinge takes over, with the doctor briefly visible checking on him. Triton still looks a bit disoriented of when he comes back in to take the first fall pinfall, then seems more to be playing off it the rest of the match. Triton & Tiger accepted a mask match in post match promos.
It gets much less notice, because it’s happening at the edge of the screen for just a moment and then ignored, but Stigma also seems hurt after his match. He’s down outside the ring as the main event entrances are starting, with a backboard out for him, and then disappears by the next time we’re shown the whole ring.
The main event had Sanson foul to beat Volador, a finish to set up a singles match which just doesn’t occur.
Thoughts:
The main event was a means to a DQ end, decent action but not the best from anyway. I don’t know if he’s hurt, tired, or bored, but Volador seemed lethargic during the match. To me, there are two other tecncios in the match who would mean just about as much in a match against Sanson while giving Volador a break. CMLL programming sees Volador as necessarily, despite not a lot evidence of that being true right now. (Then they didn’t make the match, which makes this whole paragraph dumber.)
The tag team match was a bit of a disappointment, but one easy to write off due to Triton getting shaken up at the least. Whatever they were going to do in the first fall didn’t happen and it looked like they might have not done all they had planned during other portions. It settled down in the third fall and they had some solid back and forth, though never anything really noteworthy. Tiger and Triton continue to hype their feud. The overall tag match didn’t have that same energy; Felino and Esfinge were present but could’ve been subbed out with anyone. Esfinge occasionally looks clumsy and out of place. The splash/legdrop combo he did with Triton looked like a worse version of stuff Titan & Triton have done in the past and they really should avoid that sort of comparison. Esfinge & Triton really don’t have much tag team spots despite being a team for some time.
I don’t want to write off Magia Blanca but I think we might have to for at least a while.
They did a lot in the opener, more than usual. It didn’t have much of an impact and it didn’t feel sharp. In theory, when it’s six Puebla guys who are training together, they could be running thru these matches during the week before they happen. Didn’t feel that way here. Having these guys in eternal stasis (broken up by twice a year apuesta matches) doesn’t help but they’re not making the strongest case for more.
