That’s two matches set to happen days before the Universal tournament of champions. There’s a chance here a Mexican wrestling promotion is about to hold a tournament that won’t make a lot of sense.

CMLL says their 85 Years of Lucha Libre will now have an English edition available at their buildings. They say it’ll also be on Amazon Mexico; I only see the Spanish version on there now. In the big picture, it would be a fascinating development if CMLL finally started selling things over the internet.

Rush told Reporte Indigo that his brother Dragon Lee had not yet decided where he was going, saying he had offers from WWE, NJPW, and ROH. Rush is also certain that he, Dragon Lee and Andrade will team up together someplace someday.

I think Dragon Lee had previously indicated on Instagram that he wasn’t interested in going to WWE at this time (though Instagram isn’t exactly binding.) I’ve been wondering about some sort of split deal with NJPW and ROH, but the precedent of Mascara Dorada suggests NJPW probably would’ve announced any Dragon Lee signing during Fantastica Mania. Dragon Lee’s social media posts indicate he was still in Japan as of yesterday morning, so he and Mistico may be taking longer to come home than the rest of the CMLL roster. Mistico’s listed on Friday’s CMLL card, Dragon Lee on Sunday’s Arena Neza show.

Lucha Libre Online has an interview with Rush; I think it is possible quotes for the above article were pulled from this, or he ends up saying similar things about his closeness with La Sombra in both.

+Lucha also has an interview with Rush. Dragon Lee’s status didn’t come up in as far as I could tell. Rush was very impressed with getting Toro Blanco chants in his first Ring of Honor appearance.

AAA will be part of the Vive Latino music festival in Mexico City, taking place March 16-17th. There will be four matches each day, and someone will win a Vive Latino championship.

A Pasala report on the Zona 23 show over this weekend says this was the last show for the promotion in that junkyard. No new venue is mentioned.

02/09 The Crash in Tijuana

Mexa Wrestling on 02/23 (“New Idols” in Arena San Juan)

03/19 Lucha Memes in Coliseo Coacalco (Charro Kingdom)

Latin Lover, speaking about his role in Roma, said the director didn’t realize he was ex-luchador Latin Lover until he started getting a lot of photo requests during breaks between filming outdoors in Neza.

+LuchaTV has the latest edition of their podcast.

Lineup

CMLL (SAT) 01/26/2019 Arena Coliseo
1) Arkalis & Príncipe Diamante vs Apocalipsis & Yago
2) Bengala, Leono, Sangre Imperial vs Espanto Jr., Metálico, Sangre Azteca
3) Magnus, Pegasso, Stigma vs Cancerbero, Disturbio, Raziel
4) Rey Cometa vs Dragón Rojo Jr. [lightning]
5) Audaz, Tritón, Tritón vs Cavernario, Euforia, Mephisto
6) Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón vs Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Volador Jr.

I would be excited for the semi-main if it was airing.

Yago is back – and back in the opener after the apuesta win. That was more about getting people payoffs than elevating anyone, it seems.

CMLL (SUN) 01/27/2019 Arena México
1) Kaligua & Último Dragóncito vs Mercurio & Pierrothito
2) Kaho Kobayashi, La Guerrera, Maligna vs Amapola, La Comandante, La Seductora
3) Blue Panther, Esfinge, Tritón vs Kawato San, Tiger, Virus
4) Titán vs Mephisto [lightning]
5) Atlantis, Soberano Jr., Valiente vs Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón
6) Ángel de Oro, Carístico, Niebla Roja vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero

Kobayashi was announced as returning a few months ago, did not due to an injury, and appears to be coming in now. The tecnicas/rudas sides are unbalanced at the moment.

Rudas (7): Amapola, Dalys la Caribeña, La Comandante, La Metálica, La Seductora, Reyna Isis, Tiffany

Tecnicas (12): Avispa Dorada, Estrellita, La Guerrera, La Jarochita, La Vaquerita, Kaho Kobayashi, Lluvia, Maligna, Marcela, Mystique, Princesa Sugehit, Skadi

Reyna Isis hasn’t been around for a month. Some of the tecnica women do not appear often, though that might be due to space or interest.

  1. “A Pasala report on the Zona 23 show over this weekend says this was the last show for the promotion in that junkyard.”

The “that” in that sentence is all that I have in this world.

  2. You unfortunately sound like Zona 23 can move to “another junkyard” in this article. Cubsfan the best news you have posted so far in the short year is that any promotion period is done running a friggin junkyard. I am not an ultraviolent wrestling fan but the junkyard setting, albeit in fitting for the matches, was just awful. It felt like a bad “Vince Russo writes Mexican wrestling Nitro segment” anytime I would see clips. Oddly I was gonna just ask before reading this and the Pasala article if you could somehow shed a little light on why in the hell they ran a junkyard to begin with? I know a lot of buildings in Mexico are not up to par but wow that place was a shit hole. Also on a side note the Angel o Demonio brick gimmick is just messed up more and more and that article glorifying in it’s way putting him over is just insane to me.

  3. I think it has something to do with the commision threatening to actually stop the shows because of the crazy shit they do. If you remember for a short time XMW would run secret shows because the commision threatened the same thing no matter where they ran. So guys would just tell their friends a couple days before the show, the friends would tell more friends & they would hope the commision didn’t find out in time.

  4. That Rob is as good a reason as I could imagine. Talk about “outlaw” lol. That is outlaw in the truest of form to hide to the commission running a junkyard. Hide behind a bunch of broken cars, they’ll never find ya there.
