Tecnicos took 2/3.

Nitro, Akuma & Camorra and Raziel, Hijo del Signo and Yago talk about their feud. That tag match is happening either on Christmas or New Year’s Day. Both are Tuesdays, which is why it was suddenly moved onto this show. It is unclear why it took CMLL until yesterday to realize they were running the feud on Tuesdays. Maybe Camorra has something else to do on Tuesdays.

There are also promos with Drone talking about his father and Mephisto & Rey Bucanero talking about their win. Tiger appears to be taking on Puma’s tradition of wearing Grinch outfit during December.

I can’t wait to record the main event and never watch it.

Today is Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe, a day off for many in Mexico. It also means a lot of free lucha libre shows near churches today, especially in Puebla.

It is also the penultimate episode of Lucha Capital. The original explanation for this tournament said five matches would be happening on this episodes. Five matches are in fact scheduled to happen. They’re not exactly working out how they were announced, but that is pretty close for AAA.

Taya, Keyra, and Vanilla meet in the women’s final. AAA went out of their way to tease Taya facing Lady Shani only if Taya wins the tournament, so Taya is probably winning this tournament. Vanilla & Keyra would be longshots even with that tell. The Keyra/Vanilla match had good moments even if it didn’t come together and the best AAA women’s matches have tended to have more people in them, so perhaps this will be pretty good.

The other four matches are in the men’s family. No matchups have been announced, as with recent cards. All the matches will have the winners move onto next week’s final, and the losers eliminated, so the stakes are pretty easy to understand. The stakes are also really not high since the overall winner is likely coming from the four people who’ve already advanced to the final (Psycho Clown, Pentagon, Pagano, Suicide) or even maybe-eliminated Killer Kross instead of anyone who is battling today. Tonight is really more about which four wrestlers you’d like to see wrestle at least once more next week. This is how I have them:

  1. Laredo Kid
  2. Hijo del Vikingo
  3. Aerostar
  4. Golden Magic
  5. Drago
  6. Maximo
  7. Texano Jr.
  8. Mascarita Sagrada

The original set up had 12 people in the finals (leading to 4 three-way matches, then 3 one-on-one matches to determine a winner.) It looks like there will be 8 people in the final, maybe 9 if/when Kross gets added, but your guess is as good as mine at what they’ll do next week.

Lineups

CMLL (MON) 12/17/2018 Arena Puebla
1) Centella Roja, Hijo de Centella Roja, Sonic vs Black Tiger, Espíritu Maligno, Fuerza Chicana
2) King Jaguar, Rey Samuray, Tigre Rojo Jr. vs Cancerbero, Hijo del Signo, Perverso
3) Black Panther, Blue Panther Jr., Stigma vs Kawato San, Okumura, Vangellys
4) Diamante Azul, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero
5) Ángel de Oro, Carístico, Niebla Roja vs Cavernario, Hechicero, Rey Bucanero

Last show of the year. They certaintly seem to be setting up Caristico/Cavernario on the non-streamed show. Streaming really doesn’t matter to CMLL.

Like Black Tiger being flipped to the rudo side with no explanation, King Jaguar appears to be a tecnico again without reason. CMLL treating their wrestlers like interchange generic figures probably is one of the most damaging things they do.

IWRG (SUN) 12/16/2018 Arena Naucalpan
1) Dulce Luna & Princesa Saira vs Lady Cat & Lili Dark
2) Ángel Estrella Jr., Puma de Oro, Voltar vs Canibal, Dinámico, Matrix
3) Chicanito, Fireman, Mexica vs Black Puma, Guerrero 2000, Power Bull
4) Dinamic Black vs Mosca
5) Lunatic Xtreme vs Alas de Acero
IWRG vs Lucha Memes
6) Chris Stone, Iron Kid, Manchitas vs Death Metal, Guero Palma, Taurino
Lucha Memes vs Gimnasio Zeuz
7) Divino, Hijo Del Brazo De Platino, Ninja de Fuego vs Fly Man, Neza Kid, Quetzal
Lucha Libre Boom vs Zaetas del Ring
8) Black Dragón, Dragón Bane, Toto vs Black Lancer, Máquina Infernal, Shaolin
Gym FILL vs Gym Villanos

A rare situation of Naucalpan running two straight days, with the Memes/Boom show the night before. As often when someone else runs the building, the IWRG show of the week is a FILL trainee show.
