The current state of things is all the recommended matches are from AAA. Things have changed a lot over the last night months. The trios title switch was the best match to me but a lot of people liked Suicide/Laredo a lot.
my excuses for not doing the indie catch up this week: there were two AAA TV tapings in six days and I started working on one and lost the first two match recaps I wrote for the next one in a laptop crash. Going to try again tonight.
A rough way to end a show with an injury. Marvin was said to be “semi-knocked out” but it wasn’t thought to be serious. Turnout was not as strong as it has been in the past, which doesn’t matter to us waiting for the show to turn up for free on +Lucha but doesn’t seem great for them. Memes is back in just six days with a co-promoted show in Arena Naucalpan; a problem with the LLB/Memes alliance is Memes feels like it’s running a lot even when they’re just part of other people’s show, and it’s tough to make the shows must see when they’re just mixing and matching people with not a lot more to it. I still would like to have seen this show but I’m also weird.
IWRG (SUN) 12/09/2018Arena Naucalpan [+LuchaTV, The Gladiatores]
1) Chef Benito b Atomic Star
2) Death Metal & Picudo Jr. b Juve Venegas & Mexica
3) Black Dragón & Dinamic Black b Hip Hop Man & Mosca (Argentina)
4) Karaoui & Zumbi b Hijo del Alebrije & Relámpago Karaoui pulled Alebrije’s mask to set up the win.
5) Aliado de Dios & Toscano DQ Capo del Sur & Fantasma de la Ópera Sur fouled Toscano
6) Demonio Infernal, Eterno, Lunatic Xtreme b Black Terry, Imposible, Murciélago Plateado
7) Aramis, Rokambole Jr., Villano V Jr. b Dragón Bane, Sinn Bodhi, Último Gladiador
No real notes from the show. Maybe they’re heading to a Capos vs Villanos/Toscano match. Maybe it is IWRG and they’re not heading anywhere in particular.
Are you excited for another Volador singles match? Too bad, it’s happening anyway. Volador faces Terrible in tonight’s Arena Puebla match following as less than enthralling singles match on Friday night. Terrible and Volador have not met in singles match often (just once in Guadalajara three years ago due to no-shows), and Terrible has seemed uncomfortable taking Volador’s trickiest moves in big matches. Perhaps that’ll cause them to try a different strategy in this match, possibly this will mean they just take it easy.
Niebla Roja & Rey Bucanero keep meeting, this time with Angel de Oro, Caristico, Cavernario and Hechiero involved in the semi-main. Caristico has said he expects to be healthy enough to wrestle tonight. The odd team of Fuego, Triton, and Volcano take on Misterioso, Sagrado in the fourth match. Microman makes the trio to Puebla. Mije does not, so Guapito works as a rudo and Atomo teams with the usual micro-tecnicos. The second match includes Rey Samuray & King Jaguar, Sonic is back in the opener. The show will air at 9:00 pm on YouTube. There’s just one Puebla show left to air this year following this one.
The El Planchitas column passes along a rumor that Emperador Azteca was downgraded in the CMLL bodybuilding competition because he’s an Elite wrestler who’s appeared in AAA and people were upset about that. Also, the Box Y Lucha magazine awards, which have been mostly bought by wrestlers and promoters for the last few years, went for 1,300 to 2,500 Mexican Pesos – around $60 to 125 USD. I used to find this all bad form and it’s still not great, but Box Y Lucha probably could use whatever money it can get to keep on publishing so maybe it’s a necessary thing. I wish they had a real online solution and not a service that stopped sending out articles every few weeks unless I bugged them, until I just gave up bugging them and gave up on seeing my money again, but so it goes.
Lineups
CMLL (FRI) 12/14/2018Arena México
1) Halcón Suriano Jr. & Robin vs Espanto Jr. & Grako
2) Astral, Eléctrico, Fuego vs Cancerbero, Disturbio, Raziel
3) Esfinge, Titán, Tritón vs Misterioso Jr., Templario, Vangellys
4) Soberano Jr. vs Forastero [lightning]
5) Ángel de Oro, Flyer, Niebla Roja vs Rey Bucanero, Shocker, Terrible
6) Carístico, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Cuatrero, Sansón, Último Guerrero
Soberano/Forastero might be better the second time. The main event could be good. Raziel is getting regular work again. But CMLL cards with no direction aren’t very interesting right now.
CMLL (SAT) 12/15/2018Arena Coliseo
1) Acero & Aéreo vs Mercurio & Pequeño Violencia
2) Halcón Suriano Jr., Oro Jr., Príncipe Diamante vs Inquisidor, Metálico, Príncipe Odín Jr.
3) La Vaquerita, Marcela, Princesa Sugehit vs Dalys, La Seductora, Metálica
4) Flyer vs Templario [lightning]
5) Kráneo, Stuka Jr., Volcano vs Felino, Máscara Año 2000, Vangellys
6) Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto vs Ángel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Titán
Flyer/Templario is a first time match. It is obvious Halcon Suriano is starting at the lowest point in the main division, and there’s a lot of people at that point.
