What happened:

not a fun night for the caveman

La Besita del Ring ran out to attack Atlantis for the finish, with the Ingobernables ripping up Atlantis’ mask and taking off Valiente’s mask.

The announcers promoted the holiday shows after every fall. It was a bit much.

Thoughts:

Último Guerrero and Volador didn’t seem particularly excited for this singles match. They walked thru a recitation of their usual match, with scarcely anything new. I think the suplex in the third fall might have been new, or might have just been a replacement for the suplex off the apron. The one arm powerbomb is not new but at least it looks good. Everything else was not new, though it did end earlier than anyone was expecting. If nothing matters in CMLL, and CMLL certainly treats their matches like nothing matters, they could at least book matches their wrestlers were interested in doing. Any other version of this match would be better time used than watching this.

The semi-main was the moment were it hit how much I wasn’t into this show it at all. This one in particular just had a lot of warmed-over spots from other matches with nothing particularly interesting behind them. Atlantis and Rush did the required feud, but that was it. Diamante Azul toping Barbaro Cavarnario was sure a significant weight difference but I guess they needed Cavernario out of the ring to set up the angle.

he climbs those ropes too easy

A slow paced match and a slow-moving match. Volcano doesn’t move so fast to begin with, so there evasion corner sot looks really bad when other people are moving even slower. I think Volcano is supposed to be a kid’s hero but I’m not sure he’s fun enough to work. Kraneo still is outshining him in charisma. The springboard armdrag was impressive but there was a lot of working around him.

The tercera had a very good two minute stretch near the end of the third fall, and some good moments scattered thru the rest. It was significantly better than anything before it on this show. It also had some moments of confusion and lost wrestlers. The end of the second fall had good moves but also people visibly confused as what was supposed to be happening when. Soberano pinning Templario off a trip and after a stage dive was the strangest. The técnicos did well here but it’s obvious that Templario is one of the best guys in Mexico right now.

a Lluvia highlight

The women’s match had little excitement to it. It was a typical one where what went wrong was more interesting than what they did. There was a dive cut off trip spot that looked very strange to end the first fall. Jarochita having to put herself into Isis’s Gori Special means maybe it’s not a move that is great for her to be doing. Lluvia’s plancha was nice, though it left me worried she was going to get her legs stuck underneath here and suffer a knee injury.

The opener was steadier than some recent Coyote & Grako matches, with one bit of weirdness on a sunset flip really sticking out. It also wasn’t nearly as exciting, with Super Astro & Robin’s best moments left out of this match. Not sure if they were asked to tone it down or if that’s just the way this match went, but they’ve looked better.
