Cuervo benefit show, Lucha Capital Week 4

AAA , CAPITAL (WED) 11/21/2018 Pinche Gringo Barbecue, Miguel Hidalgo, Distrito Federal [AAA]
1) Argenis b Mocho Cota Jr.
bonus non-tournament match
2) Hijo Del Vikingo b Máscarita Sagrada
Both are 1-1.
3) Drago b Puma King
Drago is 1-1, Puma is 0-2
4) Keyra b Vanilla
Both are 1-1.
5) Murder Clown b Samoano
Murder Clown is 1-1. Killer Kross attacked both and introduced Scarlett, who said she’d be in the tournament.

Pagano and Vampiro missed the show due to travel issues. Konnan filled in as an announcer.  All the matches were changed, though many of them did not seem to need to be changed. It felt like the show was getting stretched out because someone was late arriving but Kross was in his gear and looking ready to wrestle when he did his run-in, so I’m not sure what happened.

AAA put up a standings page today. Murder Clown has 3 points, which means his match against Samoano counted in the standings. It’s less clear if that counts as a loss for Killer Kross.

The same travel issues – fog around the Mexico City airport delaying flights in and out – may have led to CMLL people missing a packed show in Oaxaca last night.

Tonight is the Cuervo benefit show at Arena Naucalpan.  In addition to the announced card, many other luchadors have committed to appearing at the show. There will be an autograph signing an hour before the show, including a lot of wrestlers who will not appear. It has not been said, but I would not be surprised if this show ended up streaming on +LuchaTV tonight.

The show looks like it may fill the building or come close. Thank you to everyone who has donated to help Cuervo. The plan has changed now to give the money directly to Cuervo’s family this weekend when they’ll be in Mexico City. If you are in Mexico, there’s also a bank account you can donate towards.

Lucha Memes says they (the promoters) are paying all of Cuervo’s expenses.

Furia de Titanes says they will not be taking Angel o Demonio off their 12/08 show because they booked him two months ago, they feel that commitment is important to make, and it is up to the fans to decide if they want to come or not. That’s a joke. In the end, I think it’s going to be a moot point – they’re running in Mexico City and Fantasma is not going to let Angel o Demonio wrestle – but this shows how some in Mexico are treating this as no big deal, compared to rest of the world wanting Angel o Demonio out of wrestling and in jail. This is such an obvious reprehensible act and people are still trying to find a way to make excuses.  (Another example is Super Crazy telling ESPN extreme wrestling should be banned in Mexico because few know how to do it but also saying Cuervo was in part at fault because you can never turn your back on someone in that style of match. There’s more – I’m not going to bother to link to the El Planchitas column, but the excuse there is Angel o Demonio asked to face someone beside Cuervo because he didn’t think Cuervo could wrestle the style of match he wanted.

Here are some facts: Angel o Demonio’s matches are usually bad, no one’s buying tickets to see him wrestle, he’s not going to be missed much the moment he stops wrestling and he just nearly killed someone. If you can’t take a stand against this guy, then you’re never going to take a stand against anything.

It’s that last point that really matters. It doesn’t matter how you like the guy or respect the guy or have worked with him for years, Angel o Demonio could be the greatest person in the world and Cuervo could be the most untrained person for all I care, it does not change that fact that he almost killed a person with his actions. He made a mistake just about as bad as you can make, and people need to accept that. I’m glad the charity show exists to show some of the good of Mexican wrestling because much around it is showing the worst.
