(12:48 [5:46, 3:58, 3:04], 2/3, ok,
VideosOficialesCMLL)

Euforia, Nitro, Rey Bucanero beat Mistico, Niebla Roja, Stuka Jr.
(11:05 [3:20, 3:56, 3:49], 2/3, ok,
VideosOficialesCMLL)

Último Guerrero beat Diamante Azul  to win the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship
(12:34, 2/3, good,
VideosOficialesCMLL)

  1. Diamante Azul press slam (3:11)
  2. Pulpo Guerrero (1:17)
  3. Guerrero Special (8:06)

What happened:

Blue Panther Jr. and Universo feuded the entire tercera. Panther went for a chokeslam and Universo pulled off the mask for the require two fall match.

Thoughts:

this was a less good Sagrado effort

Stuka did all he could to warn Diamante Azul to stop going to the top rope. Diamante Azul failed to pay attention and lost like a dummy in the way everyone loses to Último Guerrero. This was in fact every Último Guerrero title match, with Azul as the challenger falling for the same Último Guerrero offense as ever. Azul showed little more than he does in trios and there was deeper to his style revealed by a solo occasion. UG never reacted to Diamante Azul like he was a large threat as Michael Elgin was; Azul did power moves but didn’t physically dominate the match any more than Carístico would’ve in the same spot. The Guerrero formula did get the fans into the near falls and they helpfully didn’t drag this on longer than necessary. I think it’s mildly recommended, but only if you’re not tired of seeing this Guerrero style title defense.

Mistico’s semi-main had some fun moments in the first couple falls. Stuka’s armdrag was inspired, and Euforia & Mistico had their usual good interaction. It slowed down a lot in the third fall, which wasn’t really a surprise given the people involved. Nitro & Bucanero are just going to get thru these exchanges instead of making them interesting, which would be better if they also didn’t win the match.

this feels like a double Kushida

The fourth match was a disappointment. The rudos weren’t really feeling it; Sagrado’s non-effort on Audaz’ tope fit with the rest of the match. Misterioso and Audaz are also not a good mix. These tecnicos aren’t quite enough to make it work on their own, nor were they really trying to do so. You can skip this one easy.

The tercera was enjoyable while it lasted, just a bit shorter than usual even for a two fall match. Universo & Blue Jr. would not be anyone’s first pick for a feud, but it gave the match more of a reason to exist than normal. The surprise dives near the end were nicely done. Kawato is kicking a lot more. He’s good at kicking.

There’s not much to say about the second match, but it did seem like a better effort than usual. A dive train in the second match is stunning on a Tuesday show or most any CMLL show.

Metalico really getting the swing on the headscissors

Qualifying match for the King of Hell in CMLL tonight, Tritoncito, LU

CMLL’s Dia de Muertos show begin next Friday, which means this Friday is mostly a place filler. There’s one promising matches, but it’s a nice of matches just to have matches. The costuming and atmosphere is going to be the selling point next week, so there’s little chance anything will come out of these matches outside of the one match specifically for that purpose. That’s not a problem if the matches are good. The matches don’t look so good.

The big match is the third, the Rey del Inframundo contender cibernetico. The winner of the twelve man match gets a shot at the reigning King of Hell, Sanson, next week. The people involve aren’t big names – helpfully, they seem to have picked people who weren’t already in the Gran Prix or the heavyweight title ciberneticos to make it different – which means it’ll be a rare chance to see someone different in a big singles match. Sanson as champion would seem to eliminate any rudos, and Flyer & Audaz seem to have the best chances of the tecnicos. This match looks like it has the best lineup of any of those recent ciberneticos, and it should be easily worth watching no matter who wins.

The rest of the show is just a show. Los Ingoberanbles will have a usual main event with Carisitco, Valiente and Diamante Azul. Dark Magic will have his first match without Azul in it, teaming with Negro Casas & Cavernario against Mistico, Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja. Casas & Mistico have teased an issue in every match they’ve had, though it’s unclear if it’s going anywhere. Fuego, Drone and Pegasso take on Dragon Rojo, Polvora and Okumura in what should be a fun second match. Misterioso & Sagrado are demoted to the opener tonight because there’s so many other midcarders on the show. They face Star Jr. & Principe Diamante.

The show starts at 8:30 pm CT. (This is the last “normal time” stream for a week.)

You can watch the show on Facebook or Marca. Both are showing as Mexico only right now. I hope that gets fixed because I’m going to be around to stream the show. If it doesn’t, it’ll be on YouTube later anyway.

AAW tonight outside of Chicago has

  • Rey Fenix vs Sammy Guevera
  • Mexablood vs The Besties in the World
  • LA Park vs MJF

It should be good. I have no idea how the LA Park match is going to work. I’m mostly hoping Park is in a good mood and everyone leaves happy.

Former CMLL mini Tritoncito passed away yesterday. This was a mini of the 90s version of Triton, not the current wrestler with a different look, from a time minis weren’t making CMLL more than once or twice a year. I did see him in person at a minis anniversary show in Mexico a few years ago. He was obviously older and slower than he’d been in his prime, but he did a great job of interacting with some female hecklers. Tritoncito been having health problems for a while. There was a benefit show for him a few weeks ago, where he appeared but in a wheelchair. Age and cause of death have not been reported.

There’s some video – though hard to follow at times – of the Xalapa show with CMLL wrestlers last night on YouTube. Check this channel. There were at least three draw finishes on the show, including the main event going to a draw countout with Sanson & Penta. They had a long pull apart at the end, which seemed pretty heated. It’s hard to tell if there was anything more to it, or if they were just going for a hot brawl to balance a lame finish.

As I write this Friday morning, Lucha Underground episode 20 is still not up on iTunes. Those episodes are supposed to be up Thursday morning every week. This is not the first week it’s happened. I’ve heard people having similar problems with Lucha Underground on Amazon this season as well, which suggests this is more a Lucha Underground issue than one of the tech companies. My suspicion is sort of another consequence of the much smaller budget this year, and making sure these shows actually are available is a low priority task for someone doing a million other things. Which is a problem, because paying for a show and not being able to watch the show is going to run people off faster than any on-screen creative decision. The question in a couple weeks is not going to be if Lucha Underground come back for a Season 5? but should Lucha Underground coming back for a fifth season if it’s going to be this level of experience?

LuchaWorld has the latest Lucha Report, including a recap of CMLL Informa.

Chessman says he will return the Copa Antonio Pena to AAA if he wins, since AAA and Antonio Pena has done so much for him. The article believes this means Chessman is not really an OGT.

(14:43 [6:14, 3:50, 4:39], 1/3, ok,

Ángel de Oro, Diamante Azul, Niebla Roja beat Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
(12:01 [4:20, 5:04, 2:37], 1/3, ok,

Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero beat Carístico, David Finlay, Mistico
(11:52 [5:52, 1:57, 4:03], 1/3, ok,
VideosOficialesCMLL)

What happened:

Mephisto pulled Diamante Azul’s mask during his press slam and covered him. The referee initially ruled a win for the técnicos, but spotted Mephisto with Azul’s mask and called for the DQ. This turns out to go nowhere.

Thoughts:

King Rocker lived

It was hard for me to find much to say about the show. The action was about normal for a B-show, with no match having a substance to get interested in. Everything was fine, it seemed like it was a fun time to be there, nothing was something you have to rush to watch. The fourth match did the best in bringing the crowd up, with the Hijos del Infierno doing a good job of stooging for these técnicos. The tercera seemed like an interesting match on paper but it lost me somewhere along the way. It was one of those matches that took a lot longer to watch than listed because I couldn’t stay focused on it. The main event was simple if success. Finlay looked the best he’s been in the third fall of that match, but he never totally fit in; I don’t think he or the rudos ever figured out a way to make his parts of matches interesting during his run

lucha TV preview for weekend of October 26th, 2018

full size

Daylight Savings Time starts in Mexico on Sunday. AAA’s show on Sunday and the three weekly CMLL shows starting on Monday (and including the Friday Dia de Muertos show) will all an hour later than usual if you’re in the US or someplace else that doesn’t change time. This is only a one week deal: the US changes back the following weekend.

This is really important for the AAA show. That poster says 6:00 pm. If you’re in the US, it’s 7:30 pm CT, 90 minutes after that listed time. Jeff Jarrett & Dr. Wagner probably won’t get into the ring until around 9:30 at the earliest.

Lucha Underground will finally reveal who’s under the mask of Son of Havoc or Killshot this week.

The cibernetico on CMLL Marca tomorrow show be good. This wouldn’t be a bad week to skip everything else in CMLL. They’re setting up for big main events on that first week of November, which means a lot of main events with iffy finishes.

great match roundup, week of 2018-10-06

the upside is Reklusa is leaving Lucha Underground with a perfect match quality record

watched

There was a lot of strong stuff this week. Elgin/UG will never be talked about outside of lucha libre because Elgin and because the WON skipped out on a star rating, but it was the best match of the bunch. I wish were getting more Dark Fenix matches this season, because they’ve all been really good. Rekulsa will only have one match on Lucha Underground and I think it might have been better than Nightclaw’s one match on Lucha Underground but that’s a close call. This is so far behind that we can all note The Chris hasn’t appeared in CMLL since this match and wonder if we’ll see him and his pals again. Hey, that legends show is coming to CMLL in November.

Santo Jr., micros, Alberto, indie in-fighting, Castillo del Terror

I’ve got no news about Lucha Va Voom but their poster for tonight’s show is cool.

DTU is running tonight in Arena Aficion, with La Secta (Cuervo/Scoria) vs Los Macizos (Ciclope/Miedo Extremo) vs Kaleth/Tibruon (not the Acapuclo one.) Aeroboy and Jimmy meet in a singles match.

The Tirantes promoted Thursday shows originally scheduled in Arena Xalapa are resuming in the same town, only in a building called Salon Bazar. Tonight’s main event is a unique Penta vs Sanson vs Mr. Niebla three-way match. In AAA originally, and then later in Lucha Underground, “Pentagon Jr.” is billed as from Xalapa. The actual person is not from Xalapa, the idea is he’s Octagon’s rival and Octagon is from rival city Veracruz. I’m not sure Pentagon has wrestling much in Xalapa lately and I wonder if he gets any extra reaction from fans who believe he’s a local wrestler come home.

Hijo del Santo told Diario Basta that Santo Jr. will debut in Mexico City in early 2019, perhaps on a special Todo x el Todo show. Santo Jr. has not been on a poster I’ve seen since June and appears to only have wrestled three times this year. That debut has been pushed back in the past.

CMLL micros Microman, Guapito, Mije, and Zacarias were scheduled to main event Arena Mexico Rayos de Plata in San Luis Potosi. (You may remember this group having a TV show for about a year, and then a reality show around the promoters for a year.) It sounds like a lot of people turned out to see the CMLL micros. They didn’t get to see all of the main event.  Zacarias was banned from wrestling by the new president of sports in San Luis Potosi for medical reasons. There was no medical report or doctor saying Zacarias was too hurt to wrestle, the president just looked at him and decided it was a no go. There’s a lot of local politics hinted at in that article – this guy has been in charge just since the start of the month – so it’s unclear if Zacarias is really that hurt.

Alberto el Patron will have an MMA fight in Combate Americas in March 2019. Maybe. Alberto both claims it’s happening and talks about “if it happens” in an interview with Milenio, committal without committing. He hopes to do 10-12,000 people and a gate of 25 million but does not have an opponent yet. He says he’s considering three people. In an amazing coincidence, he was also considering three people for his TripleMania match when doing an interview for that. The difference here is names one he’d like: CM Punk, since he feels they’d do millions on PPV. Alberto and Punk don’t seem like they’d be in the same weight class. Alberto says he’ll make his decision in two months. He’d probably have to decide by the end to be ready for a fight in March.

Mexa Wrestling has been announcing luchadors, though not yet matches, for its Season 2 debut show in December. Tuesday, they announced Alas de Acero would be debuting for the promotion. Wednesday, Mexa Wrestling announced Alas de Acero was off the show due, claiming he had personal problems on that day. They were suspicious. Another unnamed wrestler also canceled on them – and that wrestler said PALL (and specifically Lucha Memes’ Daniel Ledesma and Lucha Libre Boom’s Fantasma de la Opera) told them they were blocked from working from Mexa Wrestling. This seems to fit with the story R de Rudo reported a couple weeks ago, where wrestlers getting benefits from PALL are only allowed to work for their related promotions. (R de Rudo has since noted their entire staff is banned from Lucha Memes shows for reporting that.) For its part, Mexa Wrestling is promising some sort of retribution. This probably won’t end well for anyone.

Blue Panther says he does not consider himself a legend of wrestling – because he has no idea what that is. He feels he’s still learning 40 years in.

Gimnasio Ranchero, the Torreon building where La Sombra among others wrestled his first match (and came back for an autograph signing as NXT champion), has been torn down. It’s temporary: they’re going to build a new Gimnasio Ranchero on the same site.

AAA posted some video to hype Heroes Inmortales:

AAA announced their lineup for 11/18 Ciudad Juarez show. There are no changes from what the local promoter announced previously.

California’s Paradox Wrestling is running its first show (at least under that name) on 11/03. Hope it goes great. They’re already advertising a follow-up show on 02/02/19. The poster has Bandido front and center. I’ve been told Bandido is not working that show. He has never actually been contacted to work that show.

Lucha Talk has a new episode.

Tijuana’s Dia de Muertos festivities will include an alter to dead luchadors.
