Qualifying match for the King of Hell in CMLL tonight, Tritoncito, LU

CMLL’s Dia de Muertos show begin next Friday, which means this Friday is mostly a place filler. There’s one promising matches, but it’s a nice of matches just to have matches. The costuming and atmosphere is going to be the selling point next week, so there’s little chance anything will come out of these matches outside of the one match specifically for that purpose. That’s not a problem if the matches are good. The matches don’t look so good.

The big match is the third, the Rey del Inframundo contender cibernetico. The winner of the twelve man match gets a shot at the reigning King of Hell, Sanson, next week. The people involve aren’t big names – helpfully, they seem to have picked people who weren’t already in the Gran Prix or the heavyweight title ciberneticos to make it different – which means it’ll be a rare chance to see someone different in a big singles match. Sanson as champion would seem to eliminate any rudos, and Flyer & Audaz seem to have the best chances of the tecnicos. This match looks like it has the best lineup of any of those recent ciberneticos, and it should be easily worth watching no matter who wins.

The rest of the show is just a show. Los Ingoberanbles will have a usual main event with Carisitco, Valiente and Diamante Azul. Dark Magic will have his first match without Azul in it, teaming with Negro Casas & Cavernario against Mistico, Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja. Casas & Mistico have teased an issue in every match they’ve had, though it’s unclear if it’s going anywhere. Fuego, Drone and Pegasso take on Dragon Rojo, Polvora and Okumura in what should be a fun second match. Misterioso & Sagrado are demoted to the opener tonight because there’s so many other midcarders on the show. They face Star Jr. & Principe Diamante.

The show starts at 8:30 pm CT. (This is the last “normal time” stream for a week.)

You can watch the show on Facebook or Marca. Both are showing as Mexico only right now. I hope that gets fixed because I’m going to be around to stream the show. If it doesn’t, it’ll be on YouTube later anyway.

AAW tonight outside of Chicago has

  • Rey Fenix vs Sammy Guevera
  • Mexablood vs The Besties in the World
  • LA Park vs MJF

It should be good. I have no idea how the LA Park match is going to work. I’m mostly hoping Park is in a good mood and everyone leaves happy.

Former CMLL mini Tritoncito passed away yesterday. This was a mini of the 90s version of Triton, not the current wrestler with a different look, from a time minis weren’t making CMLL more than once or twice a year. I did see him in person at a minis anniversary show in Mexico a few years ago. He was obviously older and slower than he’d been in his prime, but he did a great job of interacting with some female hecklers. Tritoncito been having health problems for a while. There was a benefit show for him a few weeks ago, where he appeared but in a wheelchair. Age and cause of death have not been reported.

There’s some video – though hard to follow at times – of the Xalapa show with CMLL wrestlers last night on YouTube. Check this channel. There were at least three draw finishes on the show, including the main event going to a draw countout with Sanson & Penta. They had a long pull apart at the end, which seemed pretty heated. It’s hard to tell if there was anything more to it, or if they were just going for a hot brawl to balance a lame finish.

As I write this Friday morning, Lucha Underground episode 20 is still not up on iTunes. Those episodes are supposed to be up Thursday morning every week. This is not the first week it’s happened. I’ve heard people having similar problems with Lucha Underground on Amazon this season as well, which suggests this is more a Lucha Underground issue than one of the tech companies. My suspicion is sort of another consequence of the much smaller budget this year, and making sure these shows actually are available is a low priority task for someone doing a million other things. Which is a problem, because paying for a show and not being able to watch the show is going to run people off faster than any on-screen creative decision. The question in a couple weeks is not going to be if Lucha Underground come back for a Season 5? but should Lucha Underground coming back for a fifth season if it’s going to be this level of experience?

LuchaWorld has the latest Lucha Report, including a recap of CMLL Informa.

Chessman says he will return the Copa Antonio Pena to AAA if he wins, since AAA and Antonio Pena has done so much for him. The article believes this means Chessman is not really an OGT.
