Gran Guerrero & Último Guerrero beat Mistico & Rush in a final

What happened:

Rush fouled Último Guerrero in the tournament final, and almost got away with it.

The opener has the reunion of the Batillon de la Muerte (Rey Apocalipsis & Toro Bill Jr.), at least in name. Adelita and Apocalispis have updated military looks (and Adelita is now blond), while Toro Bill is just in a regular gear. They don’t really work together in the match, and you would not be aware they were a team if you missed them walking out together for the entrance.

Thoughts:

There’s no reason for the tournament and nothing comes out of it, just the same Rush/UG feuding that’ll keep on going without a specification direction or challenge for a while. They do give the matches a lot of time for tournament matches; they’d look normal on a NJPW or US indie card for length of time and effort. The Munoz/Dinamitas is the better of the two semifinals in the rewatch, with some shaky headscissros sticking out in the other one. They’re both about the best from this show, though nothing to go out of yoru way to see. The main event is a little bit lesser and has the cheap finish, Tirantes seeing a foul he shouldn’t have been able to see.

A team with Kraneo makes some sense for Volcano, if only because maybe the comedic nature of the match will make it easier for Volcano to get thru them. He looked exactly unready for the spot sas you’d expect for an inexperienced guy who hadn’t been wrestling much. I’d assume CMLL had not put Warrior Steel in the ring much so people wouldn’t recognize him in the new character, but he’s coming off as not ready for this high a spot on the card. They didn’t really ask a lot out of Volcano in this match and he still couldn’t do a lot.

The segunda was a thoroughly average match hardly worth even writing about. Audaz doesn’t do amazing, but he makes the hard stuff look very easy. He and Virus have had better chemistry in other matches. Going solo has failed to bring out an extra dimension of Cancerbero, though he did get to work in some of his team spots.
