Attendance rebounded nicely from the last couple of Memes show in Coacalco, looking like a full house or close to it. Not a lot of reports about the matches; I wish there were more reviews about indie matches from the people who were there in general, but Memes feels like a particular blind spot. (It does keep us from bugging +LuchaTV or Memes about releasing the good matches, which must be a pleasant change.) It’s really tough to find something to say here about a show when there’s no ongoing stories and little sense of match quality. I’m not sure that’s anyone’s problem but my own, but it leads to focusing on the headcount or digression paragraphs like the next one.

What is the proper and concise way of properly way of referring to someone’s wife or husband if you’re not sure if they’re married or not? Pirata & Lolita have been a couple forever, I have no idea if they’re technically married, and that comes up more than you’d think with wrestling couples.

Gym Zeuz (Marduck/DT Oficial 911) vs Gym FILL (Mexica/DT Mexica) vs Gym Zaetas del RIng (Flayman/DT Freelance) vs Gym Arena 23 de Junio (Stone Magic/DT Angel o Demonio). Atomic Star lost his hair to Death Metal to give Gym Zeus the win.

Bringing in kids from four different schools means bringing in parents and family for a lot of different aspring luchadors. They drew very well and a regular lost his hair.

Cavernario continues teaming with Los Ingbornables in Puebla’s main event. They take on Los Guerreros, an odd match up unless a trios title match is eventually being set up. A minis title is also definitely being set up, with Joker having defeated Shockercito for the last two weeks leading into this lightning match. If Joker wins, and he probably will, expect Shockericto to defend next week.

Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja team with Matt Taven against Ephesto, Mephisto and Templario in a good match. Policeman and Nitro get all the way up to the tercera, with Lestat & Pegasso also facing Cancerbero & Nitro. The opener is the usual grab bag of people. The show will air at 9pm CT.

In a surprise, Impact Wrestling will be taping in Mexico in September. They will be taping on September 13th and September 14th. That second day is the same night as the CMLL Anniversario show. Those advertised include Austin Aries, Johnny Impact, Eli Drake, Moose, Eddie Edwards, Sami Callihan, Pentagon Jr. & Fenix. Those last two have been announced as also appearing on the 09/14 CMLL show, so there may be an issue there. The press release mentions partnering with AAA & 52MX. a WON bit a few months ago had mentioned Impact wanting to strengthen its relationship with 52MX, and running a taping in Mexico City would certainly do that. Impact has run a show in Monterrey and used AAA footage on their own TV shows, but they’ve never taped from Mexico before.

Impact will be taped at Fronton Mexico, a 4,200 seat building that was re-opened last week that includes a casino. It’s tough to say exactly how well this will draw without prices, but the novelty of getting a TV taping should be a draw. Going up against the Anniversario show on Friday is going to be tougher in selling tickets and getting talent (CMLL is unlikely to be OK with Penta & Fenix working the double shot), but Mexico City should be able to support to wrestling shows on one big night. All the people upset about no Rush versus LA Park now have another option. I’d expect LA Park himself has another option; given his raised profile, he seems a decent bet to make his Impact debut. (Er, return.)

AAA is taping twice the week before, so there should be no conflict for them this week. I’d expect many of their wrestlers used both on top as a star names and also to fill out the show. Impact is on 52MX, but it’s unclear how many people are watching it;  AAA fans haven’t reacted like Impact stars are known name when they’ve crossed over in the past. Impact should be able to get good media attention in the lead-up.

The 08/29 NJPW World CMLL airing will be the 08/12 CMLL show, including Niebla Roja versus Cavernario. I thought might be the Okada match. Maybe that’ll show up later.

Casandro will be the keynote speaker at MEX talks in Chicago on September 6.

Lineup

CMLL (SAT) 08/25/2018 Arena Coliseo
1) Aéreo & Fantasy vs Pequeño Olímpico & Pierrothito
2) Oro Jr., Príncipe Diamante, Súper Astro Jr. vs Akuma, El Coyote, Yago
3) Magnus vs Universo 2000 Jr. [lightning]

Matt Taven is obviously in now until the Anniversario show, and maybe later. They were keeping the length of his trip secret to hide that he was going to be in the main event, but obviously, that was the plan. He gets to wrestle the Hijos del Infernales on this night.
