10:30. Rudos took 2/3. Cavernario fouled Taven again and Volador made the save again. Rush faked a foul from Volador for the DQ. Volador challenged Rush to a hair match and Taven suggested a tag match with him and Cavernario. Caristico replaced Fenix (booked elsewhere) on Monday

CMLL promos: Forastero (warning Audaz that he can outfly him), Mistico & Diamante Azul & Valiente (want revenge), Okada & Negro Casas & Ultimo Guerrero (proud of their old student for doing well), and Rush & Cavernario (Rush still wants LA Park but will shave Volador if Volador wants)

Media interviews: Matt Taven (The Gladiatores), Okada (The Gladiatores, Box Y Lucha), Rush (The Gladiatores, Box Y Lucha) Forastero (Box Y Lucha)

It appears CMLL is headed to some combination of Rush & Barbaro Cavernario versus Matt Taven & Volador. It’s probably not exactly that, because neither Volador nor Rush should be losing their hair in a tag match at this point. A relevos suicidas where it ends up with Taven or Cavernario (or both) in the final would make the most sense. Except, Taven losing his hair in Mexico would be a very surprising shift and Cavernario wasn’t even in this feud until Terrible got hurt an quick turnout around for a hair match. Maybe a cage match still is the result. We’ll know Wednesday.

It does beg some questions: did Terrible lose a big payday by getting hurt on a dive on a The Crash show? Did CMLL have this actually planned as their as their Anniversario main back when Terrible & Rush won the tag titles (July 13th?)  Or back when Terrible joined Los Ingobernables, building him up then with the idea he would factor in later?

LA Park versus Rush is not happening. On Twitter, among many Tweets, Rush said that everyone on social media says they want Rush vs LA Park but, when he asked the fans on Friday if they want him versus Volador or him versus Park, they said Volador – and that means all the fans on social media are hypocrites who don’t actually go to show. There’s some obvious problems here (the people who want to see Park/Rush probably weren’t going to see something not Park/Rush, and it sure sounded those were there wanted Park anyway but Rush was there and I wasn’t), but his thought process seems to be the thought process behind the CMLL decision: they feel they can draw well without LA Park so they’re not going to pay the LA Park price this year. Maybe next year: the lesson they’re forever going to take from 2013 is fans can chant ‘Fraude’ for an hour, but they’ll still come back for the match next year. And if LA Park/Rush can’t happen in 2019, they’ll put something else together and it’ll be fine.

It does take two sides to make this work. If LA Park really wanted to do his mask match at the CMLL Anniversario show this year, that’d still probably be the match. LA Park would be foolish to do so now. This LA Park/Rush feud has revitalized Park’s career on an international basis. He’s going to start turning up in places people would not have expected to be because this feud with Rush gotten that sort of attention, and he still has a lingering attraction from his WCW stint. Lucha libre feuds are always about squeezing every single drip of water out of the sponge, and they’ve found a lot more water in there than they thought had when this thing started. I think Park believed he was probably losing his mask when he came to CMLL, he got hot, and now he’s not losing it to anyone while he’s hot. Not at CMLL’s show, and not at AAA’s either.

12:33.
6) Hijo del Fantasma & Psycho Clown b Dr. Wagner Jr. & LA Park  (posted by Lucha Libre AAA (Twitch))
15:38. Before the second match, a Jeff Jarrett promo revealed Karen Jarrett would be at TripleMania. Also, a MAD/Konnan promo was interrupted by Fenix, who declared he’d take the heavyweight title back from MAD. Fenix was attacked by Fantasma, Escorpion and Texano Jr., declaring their new group name as Los Mercenarios and an alliance with MAD. Main event had lots of fouls and Tirantes declaring Fantasma the winner. Hijo del Fantasma, who’s in a group with at least two other people and a referee, wants to now be called “El Lobo Solitario” (the Lone Wolf)

More to say later when I get to the recap. Fenix/Fantasma and Psycho/Park were set up as the big post-TripleMania feuds. Fenix/Fantasma was explicitly hinted as for the mega title; that belt going Jarrett->Fenix->Fantasma would seem likely for a lot of reasons, and may be Fantasma’s rebound win after losing his mask.

Hugo Savinovich missed the taping because he had a speaking engagement about his autobiography.

Pagano won a hair match over La Migra in Ciudad Juarez. The match talked about on this show was Zafiro facing Black Skeller, playing off the recent controversy involving Skeller & La Enigimatica. Zafiro instead faced surprise opponent Carnicero de Texas, bled a lot, and won. Skeller did not get pulled from the show by the commission, he did not work because a rival promoter paid him to miss the show. The promoter of Promociones 915-656 claimed other local wrestlers on the AAA spot show were told not to work his show if they wanted to work with the AAA names. They’ve “signed” Skeller to a contract and say they’ll respect his suspension for their 09/10 but try to get him cleared to work by their 10/20 show. (This is a promotion with plans to run every six weeks signing people to contracts.)

Ovaciones talked to Big Mami & Nino Hamburugesa about the mixed tag title match at TripleMania. They’re confident since they’ve beaten Vikingo & Hiedra in the past. Hamburguesa is picking Fantasma to win at TripleMania, while Big Mami picks Pentagon. Neither is sure who’s going to lose.

+LuchaTV has a sit-down interview with Murder Clown and a Fantasma one that was streamed live.

Other news

Penta & Fenix missed APW’s show on Friday and Penta missed PWR’s show on Saturday. PWR says they were told Penta suffered a back injury in his match in Arena Naucalpan on Thursday, and Fenix missed his flight. Penta sent a video apology for the PWR show. Sunday night, Penta & Fenix wrestled Rush & Mistico in Arena Lopez Mateos, with no sign of a Penta injury. PWR is understandably upset about all of this and I believe they’re in the right on this.

Aero Xtreme took Willy Banderas’ hair in Arena Roberto Paz.

LuchaWorld has the latest news update.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 08/24/2018 Arena México
1) Angelito & Último Dragóncito vs Mercurio & Pequeño Nitro
2) El Audaz, Esfinge, Tritón vs Kawato San, Templario, Virus
3) Ángel de Oro vs Titán [lightning]
4) Hechicero, Mephisto, Negro Casas vs El Hijo de L.A. Park, Flyer, Soberano Jr.
5) Gran Guerrero, L.A. Park, Último Guerrero vs Ciber the Main Man, Scharly Rock Star, The Chris
6) Carístico, Matt Taven, Volador Jr. vs Cavernario, La Bestia Del Ring, Rush

The main feud is in the main event. That doesn’t include LA Park, who here as a Euforia fill-in. Klan Kaoz being back may mean that trios title match is happening at the Anniversario show, to no one’s delight.

PALL (FRI) 08/31/2018 Arena Naucalpan
1) Mini Difunto & Mini Hator vs Pentagoncito & Pinochito
2) Aspirantito Jr. & Kid Sliver vs Maravilla Strong & Murciélago De Plata Jr.
3) Ludark Shaitan & Zeuxis vs Lady Flammer & Lolita
4) Demasiado, Pasion Cristal, Soy Roymunda vs Ángel o Demonio, Fantasma de la Ópera, Ovett
5) Alas de Acero, Aramis, Iron Kid vs Leo, Mike, Rafy and Dragón Bane, Freelance, Mike Segura
6) Dr. Cerebro & El Hijo del Medico Asesino vs El Divo & Hijo de LA Park
7) LA Park vs Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs Mr. Niebla

No less than eight different promotions are putting together seven matches. That means something for anyone and nothing in particular for everyone. People have definitely worked Arena Mexico and Arena Naucalpan on Friday nights, but I don’t think LA Park would be in a hurry to if he was setting up a big match in CMLL.

  1. CMLL you dream crusher! Eternal optimist thought – they can pull a full house for a December major show as well so push the match since tickets are sold.

Pessimist – was never and will never happen in a CMLL ring

Realist – I just hope LA Park sticks with with CMLL long enough for it to happen one day.

  2. I just wanna see Rush win something, don’t care much about who will be in there with him.
