X-Fly replaced Hijo de Dos Caras. Relampago, Pitbull, Rafy and Pasion Cristal started. Pitbull & Capos were out first, then the Tortugas (Leo last one left), and Imposible beat Aramis for the win.
This was said to be a pretty good show, with Dragon Bane/Freelance something you’d want to see. You couldn’t last night; after the long Saturday, no one seemed to be streaming last night.
Caristico & Volador meet in a singles match tonight in Arena Puebla. Since Caristico’s return to CMLL, the pattern is Volador wins all the matches, except for the time Caristico won to set up Volador winning bigger the following week. This match could be either bit, Volador just winning again or Caristico winning to set up another NWA Welterweight Championship match next Monday. The matches are usually good if very lacking much variance.
Some have said there is a conspiracy against Matt Taven. Taven being booked on a team with Atlantis & Octagon taking on NGD sure seems like someone is out to get him. This is not a great looking undercard: the tercera has the sort of mix of people who have good matches with people who never have good matches, and the rest of the matches are about the same. The show will air on CMLL’s YouTube around 9pm.
That tercera might be the last we see of Dragon Lee for a while. While not announced yet by name, Dragon Lee appears in an advertisement for the upcoming season of TV Azteca’s Extalon. (Both R de Rudo & Tercera y Defintiva noticed that first.) This is not the reality show the AAA people were on earlier this year, this was the one Hijo del Octagon was on. They’re both the same concept: a competitive reality show in a tropical location. When Hijo del Octagon was on the last season, he was there from October to March and did not wrestle during that time. (He did become a bigger name off it.) Australian Suicide, Hades, Lady Shani and Bengala weren’t on their show long but still were off TV for quite a while after. Maybe it’ll work differently this time – it’s interesting Dragon Lee is booked for AAW next month if he’s also got this going on – but there’s also a good chance he’s out of CMLL rings for months after tonight.
Ultimo Guerrero is headed to Connecticut on Saturday to wrestle Flip Gordon on Saturday. Guerrero rarely appears in the US outside of ROH and the occasional lucha indie appearance. This is neither.

IWRG social media has been posting Mesias and Trauma I challenging each other to a singles match, which is whty they’re running a trio match instead. Multifacetico II was the wrestler who became Zonik 2000. I guess we’ll see who this is, but I suspect IWRG forgot they already had a 2 (and a 3 and a 4) and this is going to be Multifacetico II (2).
‘Holocausto’
Can I assume this doesn’t have the same connotation in Spanish or, umm, is that an really unfortunate ring name?
I mean, obviously I know the term ‘holocaust’ does have a meaning beyond the genocide but still…
I don’t think it’s thought out beyond “what’s a really scary evil name?”
I agree with Cubsfan. That name wasn’t thought out fully, and no one told him it could be offensive.
There’s a famous gimmick of Septiembre Negro… many Ku Klux Klan running around… tons of wrestlers who wear Nazi gear…
The entire idea of lucha libre is good vs evil, not having great matches & doing cool spots. The heroes triumph over the rudos. Now you guys want to be offended by the entire premise of the sport? Please guys… take your outrage elsewhere.
Why not stop 90% of luchadors from wearing crosses on their gear because when they bleed or have the mask ripped it’s sacreligious? Damn El Santo was very offensive… someone should have said something.
It’s weird when wrestling fans forget the original idea behind why wrestling exists. It’s an emotional release. Matches are supposed to tell stories. Like a live movie. You’re supposed to get invested in the charachters and realize – it’s a show.
So… relax SJW’s.
… and here comes Rob. I’m not offended by luchador names. I just feel that they can do a better job at coming up with better names. Everyone has internet. You think a luchador can’t just Google search a bunch of better sounding names. I’m more offended by intergender matches, especially when the women bleed. Most of those names you mentioned are from the 60’s-’90’s. It’s like the American gimmicks that were very stereotypical. That’s just the way it was. As a Mexican-American, I would hope that the modern luchador would have more common sense. I remember several years back, the luchador, SIDA (AIDS), got flack from the Lucha magazines because of that name. So even the Mexican lucha press is aware of some of these bad gimmicks/names.
Luchador, Black Boy, is someone I’ve spoken about. The name doesn’t make any sense in Spanish (Niño Negro??) , and sounds worse in English. Now he has to wrestle with different name in the U.S. I’m not upset by any means, but it’s an interesting topic to debate.
Ultimately, it’ll be the luchador’s talent that will get him/her recognized.
