Nothing special on either of these shows. CMLL’s Sunday points out Kraneo’s won awful lot since becoming tecnico.

Coliseo promos: Audaz, Mascara Ano 2000, and Soberano Jr.. Sunday promos: Astral, Universo 2000 Jr., and Star Jr.

A week ago, I’d be sure Universo 2000 Jr. would be out in the first round of Friday’s Gran Alternativa tournament. Not so sure now.

At this time last year, CMLL was still playing out both of the options – Niebla Roja had just picked up a surprising singles win over Dragon Lee while also not getting along with the Guerreros. CMLL had not picked which path they were going down, but it’s pretty clear they had the paths in mind in retrospect. Maybe the path they have this year will be clear later, maybe Kraneo’s being fed a lot of wins for a big loss to come. It’s not very clear to me right now; it could be Kraneo, but Kraneo’s about the fourth or fifth different direction they’ve headed in for a few weeks and most of those haven’t been mentioned again. Still waiting for Matt Taven’s name to be brought up again.

CMLL looks back at Misterioso Jr. winning the 2006 Gran Alternativa.

Deep in the middle of the AAA San Luis Potosi taping, posted today and having taken place six weeks ago, there’s a vignette where Blue Demon Jr. talks about Hijo del Dr. Wagner about his turn to the dark side. Feels like it’s overdue past the point of mattering – is this all going to be pushed to the side by the MAD invasion? – but the TV is so behind that’s it’s probably right on time if that’s all you are watching.

On Facebook, Vampiro put out an open request for women’s wrestlers from Mexico. It seems weird that one of the big companies of the year, one who’s ran and is running a talent search and has it’s own training classes and a network of local promoters, is reduced to calling out to the world for recommendations for quality Mexican luchadoras like one would ask for a restaurant recommendation. But I suppose it also says Mexico is not exactly overrun with quality Mexican luchadoras, or ones who want to work for AAA.

Also, new things start tomorrow for Vampiro.

Caristico will be on an CWA show in Puerto Rico on 05/26.

LuchaWorld has an obit for Universo 2000.

Lucha Sorpresa has some recent lucha libre reviews.

La Parka’s column hypes Sammy Guevera’s debut by saying he combines wrestling moves with skateboard movements.

Lineups

MDA Lucha Memes (FRI) 05/18/2018 Gimnasio Factores Mutuos, Monterrey, Nuevo León
1) Pedro Navajas vs Príncipe Legendario
2) Komander vs Ronaldinho [falls count anywhere]
3) Keyra vs Panthro
4) Cavernario (CMLL) vs Difunto I
5) Makabre vs Golden Boy
6) Virus vs Charles Lucero

MDA & Memes are back working together in Monterrey, after a show with bigger names this time last year in Arena Coliseo Monterrey. It’s a lot of Memes regulars versus locals. Virus & Lucero sounds interesting depending how much they’re into it, but I don’t know how Lucero is looking nowdays. He’s wrestling a lot less often than a few years ago.

This happens to be two days before the KAOZ debut show.
