AAA in Tijuana tonight, CMLL Friday night show, Penta/Fenix on MLW TV

is this an annoying GIF concept? It seems like it could be an annoying GIF concept.

Both AAA & CMLL have TV tapings tonight. CMLL has a normal Arena Mexico show, with some build up to next week’s Arena Mexico Anniversary show. AAA is in Tijuana, with their only TV taping of the month. They’re not taping again until mid May, which means tonight’s the only chance they have to make a lot of news for a while.

CMLL’s up first at 8:30pm CT. Next Friday is their big show, the anniversary of the Arena Mexico building. So far, all they’ve got is a Seductora/Sugehit hair match. That’s not expected to be a big deal or the main event so they might throw in something else this week. It might come out of the main event rematch, where Los Ingobernables and Kraneo, Atlantis & Diamante Azul meet again. There were a slight focus on Rush versus Kraneo, which they might run next week or even a couple days later for one of the Kid’s Day shows.

The semimain has Volador as the third man teaming with Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja against Cavernario, Negro Casas and Ultimo Guerrero. The Friday semimains have been among the best matches of the week for CMLL of late and this should continue them. The lightning match is a first time ever meeting between Carsitico versus Dragon Lee. They’re different styles, but both were young stars of the promotion at the time. We just wish Dragon Lee got the continued attention that Mistico got last decade; this is a rare big match for him on the big show of the week.

The women’s trios previews Sugehit/Seductora next week. It also, perhaps accidentally, previews the Kobayashi/Dalys title match in Puebla in a few days. Amapola & Marcela fill out the match. The never ending Panther/Puma/Tiger include Pegasso and Templario tonight. New rudo Templario seems like he’s been moved up a little bit already. The show opens with Yago & Espanto Jr. versus Astral & Oro Jr. There are worse opening matches for a Friday night, but that might be one easy to skip on a long night for lucha.

CultIcon has a longer preview of the show. Again, CMLL starts at 8:30 on Marca’s website and Facebook, and will be up on CMLL’s YouTube after the fact.

AAA’s taping won’t start until a few minutes after CMLL finishes, thanks to a typical late start and being in the pacific time zone. The scheduled start time is 11:00, and the show will probably go late in to the early AM. If you’re a Twitch subscriber, you should be able to watch it the next day if you don’t want to stay up until 1:00 AM to watch more lucha.

It may be worth staying up for, though I’m not sure exactly what is going to happen. I strongly suspect Konnan will be back involved with AAA, but I’m not what form that’s going to take – if it’s solely something behind the scenes, or if he’s on screen as a character as well. I also don’t know what that’ll mean for the matches; a new person in charge might rip up everything and present an entirely new card, as we saw when Vampiro took over.

The vital part might be what AAA has planned for Verano de Escandalo. That’s six weeks away but, due to massive AAA TV backlog, this taping looks like it’s the final matches which will appear before that show. Even for people who are following the live shows, there may just be two more TV tapings in May before the big summer show. AAA didn’t do a whole lot in the last set of tapings: some Wagner/Wagner stuff, and Texano/Escorpion picking up the tag titles. That means nothing besides Rey Mysterio appearing has been announced for Verano de Escandalo. That should change tonight, no matter who’s in charge.

The lineup, as it’s currently being announced, has an OGT versus Alvarados main event. Hernandez & Hijo de Wagner are scheduled to team against Vampiro & Rey Wagner, and who knows what’s happens there. There’s a TLC match scheduled to have La Parka, Pagano, Joe Lider, Hijo del Fantasma, Parka Negra and one more (originally Mesias, then a mystery person after he was removed from the lineup.) There’s no reason for it to be a TLC match and it’s unclear why you’d want La Parka to be in any sort of match like that.

The current tercera is a four way match with Rey Escorpion & Texano, Histeria & Psicosis, Cuervo & Scoria and Aerostar & Drago. The latter two have indicated this is a tag title match in interviews, though AAA hasn’t declared it so. You may recall Histeria lost his mask in Tijuana a few years ago, and the commission there is strict enough that he may not be allowed to wear it again tonight even for the big AAA show. The second match is listed as Vikingo, Lanzeloth, Bronce and Dinstia in a four way for a shot at Australian Suicide and the Cruiserweight Championship. The show is scheduled to open with Faby Apache, back from Japan, teaming with Ashley and Estrella Divina versus Big Mami, Mamba and Pimpienla Escarlata.

The lineup doesn’t look that great. Under normal circumstances, I’d tell you come in late and to check out after the third match rather than stay up all night. I don’t know what to expect from this one – I’m trying not to expect too much for a big boom that may or may not happen. It should be something to talk about either way.

The show will air on AAA’s Twitch channel. CultIcon has a preview of the show.

AAA’s next couple of tapings appear to be a 05/21 show in Puebla, a 05/31 show in Arena Aficion just announced today, and the 06/03 Verano de Escandalo in Monterrey.

The Crash announced Caristico versus Penta as their 05/19 22 main event in Tijuana. They’ve previously announced Mesias, Garza Jr. and Ultimo Ninja for the show.

If you want even more lucha libre, a Pentagon Jr. vs Fenix match will air tonight on the debut of MLW’s Fusion wrestling show. The show airs at 7pm CT on Bein Sports 1 in the US, one of those stations you may get but either you don’t realize you get it, or it’s locked in a sports package. I get it, though in SD only. Both El Rey and POP are only in SD here too, I guess it would be weird if I got to see those two guys in HD.

Fenix & Penta are booked on a NEW promotions show in Connecticut tonight, so they’re not showing up as a surprise in Tijuana.

LA Park says he’s got offers to go to AAA & CMLL. CMLL seems unlikely. LA Park didn’t seem to want to be in The Crash when Konnan was still there. We’ll see.

So Cal Uncensored notes Heroes of Lucha Libre’s June 2nd seating chart leaves room for about 6,500 to 7000 fans, not the 10,000 they were originally teasing. They’re going to have to work to get even that much.

RIOT announced their next show is on 5/26. It’s called RiotMania, playing off the Revolucha baseball stadium ColiseoMania idea. I would suggest RIOT have a baseball themed match, but at least one of the people who run RIOT is a wrong headed baseball hater.

  1. Yes, It’s annoying. Please stop it, as it affects my vision, which is already affected by strokes.

  2. Is that BeIn the English, or Spanish version?

I have Spectrum, and I get an English BeIn, and two Spanish BeIn feeds. Often the English & Spanish feeds do not carry the same things… which is great when watching soccer.
