Mephisto remains champion, HOLL/Mistico trademark

Rey Samuray has an idea

6) Cavernario & Último Guerrero DQ Valiente & Volador Jr. LA MEJOR LUCHA LIBRE EN VIVO DESDE LA ARENA PUEBLA 26 DE FEBRERO DEL 2018 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
Rudos took 1/3. Cavernario faked a foul. Volador challenged him to a match. Cavernario pointed out Volador hit him (by accident last week) and accepted to prove he’s just as good as Volador.

Tirantes was in full rudo mode in the title match, with slow and fast counts (until the final count was just a normal count.) It got the fans to make a lot of noise at Tirantes, so I’m sure he was happy.

Today’s CMLL main event is Kraneo, Pierroth & Rush versus Gran Guerrero, Marco Corleone and Mascara 2000. It’s probably an incredible pairs match because Pierroth & Rush need to be teaming, but it’s worth keeping on to see if anything happens with Kraneo. Johnny Idol versus Kraneo makes no sense unless Kraneo is going to be a tecnico, and CMLL seemed to be trying that in Puebla for a couple weeks.

There’s not anything important on this show, though the matches might be good. The Angel Brothers team with Stuka against Kawato, Luciferno and Polvora. The lightning match has Rey Cometa versus Guerrero Maya in a first time singles match. Templario, Cancerbero and Raziel and Pegasso, Star Jr. & Stigma in the tercera. The second match has Principe Odin Jr. (Artillero)’s first streaming match under that name, and the usual minis opener. It’ll air at 7:30pm.

CMLL & ELITE still haven’t officially announced a show for Sunday. AAA hasn’t put out a full card for Rey de Reyes.

Angel de Oro talks up his mask match with Ovaciones.

The Mistico/Anibal Jr./Silver King Jr. vs Cien Caras Jr./Mascara 2000 Jr/Felino headlined show in Mexicali drew 1500. Skalibur, Kamik-C, Ryan Kidd vs Utlimo Maldito, Arkangel Divino and Mirage was said to be the best match on the show; 126f has highlights.

Heroes of Lucha Libre, the aspiring TV lucha libre promotion who’s run two weekends so far, and may be running again on WrestleMania weekend, has filed for trademarks on Mistico and Dragon Lee’s names. They’re listed under The brothers worked worked the second taping. The only other wrestlers names trademarked are Ocelot (no idea) and Richard Trumposo (which I believe I read is Aaron Aguilera, but not 100% sure.) CMLL holds the trademarks to those names in Mexico, though they’ve never filed for them in the US. The Mistico name infamously has a complicated history. I guess I’m most surprised no one tried to get it before.

You could tell why HOLL would want to market those two guys, and HOLL might even be legally allowed to jump on the trademark. I have no idea about the legal rules, but they’d risk CMLL just telling those guys and anyone else that they’re no longer allowed to work with HOLL. This may be as simple as lawyers telling HOLL they need to be sure they have permission of the trademark holder for everyone they put on TV, and filling for Mistico & Dragon Lee’s trademarks since there isn’t one. It still seems like an overstep for a group that’s run a few shows.

Draztick Boy & Aeroboy are in the midwest this weekend. They’re in Chicago’s Freelance Wrestling on Friday and Black Label Pro in Indiana on Saturday. I might go see that one.

DTU’s loaded 03/16 Cuernavaca show is now a 03/16 Arena Roberto Paz in Jalisco show. They noticed AAA was running TV in Cuernavaca the next day and decided to move the location. Arena Roberto Paz puts up matches on YouTube, so that might mean another way to see this show.

An article about intergender wrestling (in English & Spanish and the photo gallery made it to Italian) tries to position it as a controversial thing that is changing attitudes in Mexico. In reality, it generally seems like something that happens in Mexico mostly because there’s not enough luchadoras – or quality luchadors – to do women’s matches, and occasionally for the novelty.

An author talks about his experience visiting Arena Mexico, which is illustrated with pictures from AAA. This turns into the usual where did lucha libre come from piece.x

Segunda Caida watches Mil Muertes vs Jeremiah Crane.

LuchaWorld has a new edition of the podcast and this week’s Poster-Mania.

1) Íkaro vs Eckus
2) Crisis & Tackle vs Atomic Star & Mantra
3) Lady Maravilla, Maligna, Sanely vs Dalys, Ludark Shaitan, Zeuxis
4) Fuego & Robin vs Fresero Jr. & Sagrado
5) Blue Panther Jr. & The Panther vs Puma & Tiger

I think this is the second show for this promotion; they ran a show in this same building with Hechicero vs Puma back in August. They’ve got a lot more CMLL names this time around.

One thought to “Mephisto remains champion, HOLL/Mistico trademark”

  1. Everyone seems to be saying “Oof, sucks for Templario” after seeing that gif, but it looks like Rey Samuray would have landed fine if Templario hadn’t scooched towards the ropes a bit after the slam. Tigre Rojo Jr. knew where to put him since they have probably done the spot before with a different local rudos or at least practiced.
Brillo Samuray if he hits the next one? It has a nice ring to it.
