CMLL Torneo Increible de Parejas Block B, AAA in Aguascalientes

Tonight is the third straight Friday with dual CMLL and AAA shows. It’ll be the last one of these nights for a while: AAA’s next shows are on Sunday, Sunday, Saturday and Wednesday, all days where CMLL doesn’t stream. Both shows tonight are listed as starting at 8:30, though AAA first match is always as little bit later.

CMLL has the second block of the Torneo Increible de Parejas. The teams in this group:

  • Caristico & Euforia
  • Atlantis & Mr. Niebla
  • Rush & Terrible
  • Marco Corleone & Shocker
  • Angel de Oro & Cuatrero
  • Dragon Lee & Sanson
  • Stuka Jr. & Forastero
  • Mascara 2000 & Blue Panther Jr.

That’s the order the teams are listed on the poster. Last week, the bottom four on the poster went out first, and the final was the top two on the poster. CMLL lists teams on their poster by rank, and there were no upsets at all. That’s the most likely outcome this week too, which leaves for some not exactly promising matches late in this tournament. Caristico & Euforia are the heavy favorites to face Ultimo Guerrero & Volador next week.

The listed main event, which will be quick and fun, has Mistico, Volador & Diamante Azul versus Ultimo Guerrero, Kraneo & Cavernario. Kaho Kobayashi makes her Arena Mexcio debut teaming with Marcela & Princesa Sugehit against Zeuxis, Dalys and Amapola, which might be the best match on the show. Magnus & Magia Blanca take on Yago & Hijo del Signo, which would be a good match with anyone beside Signo.

The show will air on Facebook & Claro as usual at 8:30, and will be up on YouTube later.

Tonight’s AAA main event is “who even knows.” AAA is stubbornly advertising their original lineup with a Hernandez & Johnny Mundo versus Dr. Wagner Jr. & Psycho Clown, even though it appears highly unlikely Johnny Mundo is going to be in Aguascalientes. He was in the UK at least notice, and there’s not many direct flights there to Mexico. Plus, there’s the thing where Taya said Mundo was done with AAA. AAA pulled off getting Mundo to the show last time, this time just seems a bit unlikely.

AAA might just be sticking someone else (Hijo de Wagner in the match. They might be doing the La Parka versus Dr. Wagner Jr. championship match instead, which would be a terrible match but actually might draw some extra people to the show if they advertised it.  Or, they might be be bringing back in LA Park and feel everyone will be happy enough about that to forgive the Mundo thing. Again, AAA’s definitely talking to Park about coming in, and so the mystery person Arturo Rivera hinted at could be him. Or Arturo Rivera could just be making the whole thing up and LA Park will be lounging by his pool.

The rest of the card might change too depending on who needs to be pulled into bigger matches. As it is, the most interesting match is Australian Suicide defending the AAA Cruiserweight Championship against Hijo del Vikingo. Vikingo was the big discovery from the La Llave a la Gloria competition. This is his first singles match, and first change to really be in the spotlight since that tournament instead of just being grouped in with a bunch of runner ups. Vikingo having a good match is more important than winning the title, and it feels well too soon for Suicide to lose it anyway.

The current semimain is Angelikal, Bengala & Hijo del Fantasma against Texano, Dave the Clown and Angel Mortal. That match looked bizarre when they announced it, and now makes a little more sense with AAA doing the Bengala/Fantasma vs Texano/Tirantes program. On the other hand, it means that even if Dave wasn’t involved, the match probably is going to be disappointed for whatever dumb Tirantes finish they’re doing.

OGT (Averno, Chessman Super Fly) take Poder del Norte (Mocha Cota Jr., Tito Santana and Carta Brava Jr.) wrestle in an ongoing feud of rudo teams. In an interview, Poder del Norte threatened to retire the OGT team and turn them into taco sellers. Cuervo & Scoria face Perros del Mal members Joe Lider & Mr. Aguila. Shani & Faby Apache continue to wrestle, albeit in the opener, with Estrella Divina and Ashley as the partners.

As with all AAA TV taping this year, the show will air live on their Twitch channel . It’s VOD immediately, though you may have to go to Video tab to find the direct link to scroll back.

I think I’m choosing AAA over CMLL live because tournament shows are usually not good and last week’s especially was not much.

Attention: there is a fake Dave the Clown. Do not be fooled by false Dave the Clowns.

There will be a press conference for the 85 Años de Lucha Libre book at Arena Coliseo Guadalajara on 02/13.

Destino Negro (Black Boy) defeated Mega Danger (Black Danger) last night in Florida for MLW. +Lucha has it as a The Crash Junior championship match.

Alberto and his foundation handed over the money they collected for his charity show. The exact amount was not mentioned; Combate Americas is mentioned as kicking in $5000 (probably USD) but there’s no big total. +Lucha happened to be posting videos of that show yesterday, and some of the more interesting clips included Hijo del Fantasma apologizing for saying anti-CMLL things after he left that promotion, Psicosis/Ripper saying the Roldans have changed, and Caristico & Alberto being very friendly.

Lucha Underground isn’t opening for tickets today, and definitely not this weekend. I’m fairly certain they’ve been quietly doing some outside the ring taping – Pentagon Dark wasn’t in Los Angeles just to do that autograph signing – so there’s no concern of something being canceled. They’re just taking their time with this.

Tiger Mask I says he’s bringing back the UWA titles with the approval of Francisco Flores’ daughter. This is probably just going to be what he calls the titles on his shows, though they’re going thru the pretense that the biggest Mexican promotion of the 80s will be running again in Mexico at some point. Dos Caras and Hijo de Dos Caras are headed to Japan in March.
