Recapped: 01/25/2018

Matches:

Histeria & Psicosis beat Dave The Clown & La Parka
(6:04, Psicosis senton Dave, bad,
Lucha Libre AAA)

Monsther Clown & Murder Clown beat Dark Cuervo & Dark Scoria © to win the AAA World Tag Team Championship
(11:58, both Clowns beat both Secta,
ok, Lucha Libre AAA)

Dr. Wagner Jr., Hijo del Fantasma, Psycho Clown vs Hernandez, Rey Escorpión, Texano Jr.
(10:36, DQ for every rule, ok, via
Lucha Libre AAA)

What happened:

this is what passes for a DDT

The show starts with Marisela Pena giving a sort of mission statement for the year. 2018 is the year of conquest for AAA, which will apparently including traveling to other countries and making TripleMania 26 the best one ever.

Fantamsa comes out first, poses in the center of the ring, and gets bat up by all three rudos. Psycho and Wagner actually hurry to the ring to help. The técnicos eventually make a comeback, but it doesn’t last long before the rudos to ever DQ offense they can think of, and eventually actually get that DQ. Escorpión hits security with a chair too. Vampiro shows up without music to stand and stare from the stage looking concerned. Wagner grabs the microphone to talk about how great Vampiro is, and then talks about the match between Hernandez versus Hijo de Wagner where the winning side gets to pick a stipulation. Vampiro finally comes to the ring, taunts the rudos and gets them to back off from beating up Psycho Clown. Vampiro gets bleeped a fair bit.

Cuervo & Scoria have new music. We get to hear only a little bit of it before they’re attacked on the way in by the clowns. This match was falls count anywhere, which took me by surprise. It also took Tirantes by surprise, since he had to rapidly scramble over the guardrail to count when they started trying for pins. It wasn’t mentioned in the graphic, and the announcers treat as information Vampiro has just passed on to them right as the pinfall is happening.

Just as it appears Cuervo is about to win, Psicosis & Histeria rush out to attack them. It is no DQ, so this time it’s at least legal. La Parka runs out of the save. The idea seemed to be he would break up the pin after Murder splashed both guys. Parka was slow, and so they kicked out instead. Parka hits all the rudos and Tirantes with a chair (Dave’s chair) and leaves the ring. The tecnicos try to finish off Murder off a second time, but Dave runs in and attacks. Parka beat him up too, before finally being dropkicked out by Parka. Parka lands on his feet fine.) Cuervo and Scoria clear out the Vipers and are immediately beat by the Clowns.

Los Vipers attack and unmask the Clowns after the match. Dave and Parka are too busy having a stare down to care.

Dave the Clown has taken a page from LA Park’s book carrying a personalized folding chair to the ring. There’s no explanation why Dave and Parka are partners and Dave doesn’t seem much bothered with helping Parka, though he does jump in to try to get a pin when he could get an easy win. Histeria’s allowed to use his bat without no problem. The Vipers eventually screw up, Parka does some horrendous offense. Dave tries to steal the pin, and Parka trips while trying to break it off. He gets back up and hits Dave with the chair, then walks out. Psicosis lands the senton right after.

Thoughts:

whatever

The main event was the usual AAA main even brawl, ending super flat with the DQ finish. The DQ happened so suddenly that I assumed Vampiro was going to restart the match to let the técnicos do something. Instead, giving the fans something turned into just talking a lot. The brawl wasn’t so bad, for a promotion which does a lot of them, it just didn’t add up to much.

Skip the one. None of the matches are close to good. The only really notable thing is the Vipers making it a three way tag title feud, and that’s barely notable.

Someone laid out the tag team match with occasional exciting spots, but they match wasn’t smooth. Cuervo doing a leaping over the railing headscissors on Murder looked cool. The way they did it, with Murder going over the railing for no reason, clearing people out of the way, and standing still until Cuervo was ready to do the spot, was not cool. The latter tope spot at least has the plausibility of wrestling sequence. I’m not big fans of Cuervo or Scoria, though this was more the other guys fault. Murder & Monster are slow moving, slow on the uptake, and just kind of stiff – the sequence with Murder Clown getting pulled into an armbar was hard to watch. A good match would’ve been wasted by the overstuff ending, where they made it clear the Dave/Parka stuff is a much bigger deal.

The opener was always intended to be an angle and not a match. It was still a horrendous match! La Parka looked terrible the entire time in. That faceslam or whatever he lazily attempted looked horrendous. La Parka tripping seemingly over his own feet and Dave just staying on the pin to wait for him to come around again was absurd. Really, Dave getting pinned after getting no offense in on the Vipers (who were more than willing to sell 1 on 2 for Parka) make him look like even more of a nonentity than usual. No one cares more about their feud after that mess of a match. They should’ve just repeated something instead of showing this.

ending with a nicer spot

CMLL Torneo Increible de Parejas Block B, AAA in Aguascalientes

Tonight is the third straight Friday with dual CMLL and AAA shows. It’ll be the last one of these nights for a while: AAA’s next shows are on Sunday, Sunday, Saturday and Wednesday, all days where CMLL doesn’t stream. Both shows tonight are listed as starting at 8:30, though AAA first match is always as little bit later.

CMLL has the second block of the Torneo Increible de Parejas. The teams in this group:

  • Caristico & Euforia
  • Atlantis & Mr. Niebla
  • Rush & Terrible
  • Marco Corleone & Shocker
  • Angel de Oro & Cuatrero
  • Dragon Lee & Sanson
  • Stuka Jr. & Forastero
  • Mascara 2000 & Blue Panther Jr.

That’s the order the teams are listed on the poster. Last week, the bottom four on the poster went out first, and the final was the top two on the poster. CMLL lists teams on their poster by rank, and there were no upsets at all. That’s the most likely outcome this week too, which leaves for some not exactly promising matches late in this tournament. Caristico & Euforia are the heavy favorites to face Ultimo Guerrero & Volador next week.

The listed main event, which will be quick and fun, has Mistico, Volador & Diamante Azul versus Ultimo Guerrero, Kraneo & Cavernario. Kaho Kobayashi makes her Arena Mexcio debut teaming with Marcela & Princesa Sugehit against Zeuxis, Dalys and Amapola, which might be the best match on the show. Magnus & Magia Blanca take on Yago & Hijo del Signo, which would be a good match with anyone beside Signo.

The show will air on Facebook & Claro as usual at 8:30, and will be up on YouTube later.

Tonight’s AAA main event is “who even knows.” AAA is stubbornly advertising their original lineup with a Hernandez & Johnny Mundo versus Dr. Wagner Jr. & Psycho Clown, even though it appears highly unlikely Johnny Mundo is going to be in Aguascalientes. He was in the UK at least notice, and there’s not many direct flights there to Mexico. Plus, there’s the thing where Taya said Mundo was done with AAA. AAA pulled off getting Mundo to the show last time, this time just seems a bit unlikely.

AAA might just be sticking someone else (Hijo de Wagner in the match. They might be doing the La Parka versus Dr. Wagner Jr. championship match instead, which would be a terrible match but actually might draw some extra people to the show if they advertised it.  Or, they might be be bringing back in LA Park and feel everyone will be happy enough about that to forgive the Mundo thing. Again, AAA’s definitely talking to Park about coming in, and so the mystery person Arturo Rivera hinted at could be him. Or Arturo Rivera could just be making the whole thing up and LA Park will be lounging by his pool.

The rest of the card might change too depending on who needs to be pulled into bigger matches. As it is, the most interesting match is Australian Suicide defending the AAA Cruiserweight Championship against Hijo del Vikingo. Vikingo was the big discovery from the La Llave a la Gloria competition. This is his first singles match, and first change to really be in the spotlight since that tournament instead of just being grouped in with a bunch of runner ups. Vikingo having a good match is more important than winning the title, and it feels well too soon for Suicide to lose it anyway.

The current semimain is Angelikal, Bengala & Hijo del Fantasma against Texano, Dave the Clown and Angel Mortal. That match looked bizarre when they announced it, and now makes a little more sense with AAA doing the Bengala/Fantasma vs Texano/Tirantes program. On the other hand, it means that even if Dave wasn’t involved, the match probably is going to be disappointed for whatever dumb Tirantes finish they’re doing.

OGT (Averno, Chessman Super Fly) take Poder del Norte (Mocha Cota Jr., Tito Santana and Carta Brava Jr.) wrestle in an ongoing feud of rudo teams. In an interview, Poder del Norte threatened to retire the OGT team and turn them into taco sellers. Cuervo & Scoria face Perros del Mal members Joe Lider & Mr. Aguila. Shani & Faby Apache continue to wrestle, albeit in the opener, with Estrella Divina and Ashley as the partners.

As with all AAA TV taping this year, the show will air live on their Twitch channel . It’s VOD immediately, though you may have to go to Video tab to find the direct link to scroll back.

I think I’m choosing AAA over CMLL live because tournament shows are usually not good and last week’s especially was not much.

Attention: there is a fake Dave the Clown. Do not be fooled by false Dave the Clowns.

There will be a press conference for the 85 Años de Lucha Libre book at Arena Coliseo Guadalajara on 02/13.

Destino Negro (Black Boy) defeated Mega Danger (Black Danger) last night in Florida for MLW. +Lucha has it as a The Crash Junior championship match.

Alberto and his foundation handed over the money they collected for his charity show. The exact amount was not mentioned; Combate Americas is mentioned as kicking in $5000 (probably USD) but there’s no big total. +Lucha happened to be posting videos of that show yesterday, and some of the more interesting clips included Hijo del Fantasma apologizing for saying anti-CMLL things after he left that promotion, Psicosis/Ripper saying the Roldans have changed, and Caristico & Alberto being very friendly.

Lucha Underground isn’t opening for tickets today, and definitely not this weekend. I’m fairly certain they’ve been quietly doing some outside the ring taping – Pentagon Dark wasn’t in Los Angeles just to do that autograph signing – so there’s no concern of something being canceled. They’re just taking their time with this.

Tiger Mask I says he’s bringing back the UWA titles with the approval of Francisco Flores’ daughter. This is probably just going to be what he calls the titles on his shows, though they’re going thru the pretense that the biggest Mexican promotion of the 80s will be running again in Mexico at some point. Dos Caras and Hijo de Dos Caras are headed to Japan in March.

Lucha Memes 03/11 in Coacalco

R de Rudo has a video of the Cavernario dive gone wrong with Mr. Iguana from this week’s Lucha Memes show. Cavernario has more hops than Iguana thought.

Hijo del Santo writes about Black Silver Jr.

Resonate Radio interviews Esfinge, who credits Satanico with coming up with that name.

DoradaFan posted a Bandido music video.

+LuchaTV has a new edition of their Aqui Es Lucha.

Shows reviewed

Hey. We’re back. Some day, I’ll explain why there was none of these for month. That day is not today.

The annual resolution to not watch as much CMLL B-Show stuff is on. It won’t last, as always.

Expect a lot of left over 2017 stuff to finally get posted. Maybe I’ll squeeze in the Niebla/Caifan match I totally forgot to watch.
