Puebla, Chairo 12, ELITE return card

Today’s Puebla show seems to be setting up another Ultimo Guerrero/Atlantis match. CMLL would have to be walking around with a blindfold on to believe putting Atlantis in a singles match is in their (or Atlantis)’s best interest at the moment, but that’s the CMLL way. The announced main event tonight is Atlantis, Pierroth, and Rush versus Gran Guerrero, Marco Corleone and Ultimo Guerreor – basically Pierroth & Marco swapping sides to avoid Pierroth wrestling his son.

The best match of the night looked like Dragon Lee, Soberano and Titan against the Hijos del Infierno. Tiger Casas faces Stigma in a lightning match in Stigma’s home building, so good luck Tiger. (That’s a first time ever singles match.) Astro & Joker make their first appearances since November, and the rest of the undercard includes Vega, Policeman, Lestat, Rey Apocalipisis and another Starman/Signo trios. The show airs on CMLL’s YouTube channel at 9pm.

The more interesting show tonight is in Arena Naucalpan, where Lucha Memes hold Chairo 12 – which is being billed as their final one of the year, since Naucalpan will no longer give them weekend dates to run. There are seven matches on this card, including the NGD facing indie trio Kamikazes del Aire for the national trios titles, Barbaro Cavernario versus Mr. Iguana and a Hechicero versus Satanico winner. (That one, despite what I have listed, doesn’t yet have anything specifically on the line.) There’s other good matches on the undercard, but those matches alone would be enough to get me in the door. Memes usually does well in Naucalpan, but a 5pm Monday start might be more of a challenge.

As mentioned before, I think the Lucha Memes are more under the radar on the internet than they were about a year ago this time because no one’s sure what/if anything will turn up; there’s no sense in anticipating something which may not happen. This show being in Arena Naucalpan, which means people will likely be openly filming the show from the crowd and it’ll show up in YouTube in some mixed level of quality even if the promotion doesn’t benefit from putting out a great version themselves.

There’s also a show in Ecatepec with a four way hair match. I know Corsario Negro, Drako and Angel O Demonio. I do not know Indio Chamula, which it mostly on me because it looks like he’s been around for a long time. Still guessing he’s the one ending up bald.

Puma’s solo tour of Japan wrapped up with a victory, and he should be back in CMLL sometime soon.

Ryan Rogan, billed as from Canada (and he probably is, I just don’t know him) has been wrestling in small Auditorio Unidad Deportiva in Fortin, Veracruz off and on since November. It seems very random but that’s lucha libre. The interesting thing is a match he had last week against local Crazy Star called “Help Time”. The rule was if neither man wins in ten minutes, each person gets to have to friends come in and help them win the match. I think every AAA match works this week, though they don’t have the patience to wait ten minutes.

Today is the 34th Anniversary of El Santo’s death. SuperLuchas reprinted an article from his 12th Anniversary about the legend of Santo’s.

It looks like Aro Lucha will be running Laredo on 03/03.

Alberto, Hijo de Dos Caras, Hijo del Fantasma,, Penta, Fenix, Sam Adonis and many more are listed as working a 05/11 show outside of Chicago. This is a new group and that’s a lot of names, and they’re promoting it hard three months out, and that’s historically not a great sign for a show actually happening (see the Florida show with Puerto Rico/Mexico wrestlers that got was exactly the same), but good luck.

This seems a return back to the DomingosElite vision of simply putting together CMLL & Elite people together as a novelty. The novelty wore off last time. You’d hope Elite would learn and maybe there will be better ideas expressed during this show or before it happens. This doesn’t give me a lot of confidence and no one seems to learn.
