The Crash @ Monterrey

AAA TV (FRI) 11/03/2017 Auditorio Instituto Queretano San Javier, Querétaro, Querétaro [AAADiario de Queretaro]
1) Angelikal, Chicano, Hijo Del Vikingo, Lanzelot b Ángel Mortal Jr., Australian Suicide, Tiger Boy, Villano III Jr.
Australian Suicide replaced Mascara de Bronce (they also moved Angelikal over to the different team.) Suicide beat Lanzelot and asked for a title shot on the same show.
2) Aerostar, Drago, Raptor b Argenis, Bengala, Máscara de Bronce
Mascara de Bronce & Bengala replaced Angelico & Australian Suicide. Drago’s team won after Poder del Norte and OGT both got involved.
3) Ashley, Hahastary, La Hiedra b Big Mami, Faby Apache, Lady Shani
Villano III Jr helped la Hiedra beat Faby Apache to build up a V3/Hiedra vs Mami/Hamburguesa title match. No Goya Kong, with Ashely & Hahastary replacing her.
4) Lanzelot © b Australian Suicide [AAA CRUISER]
first defense.
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. b PaganoHernandezMr. Águila [AAA HEAVY, #1 Contenders]
Scheduled as Wagner/Pagano vs Hernandez/Marty tag match, Vampiro turned into a #1 contenders four way and introduced the returning Mr. Aguila (as Marty’s replacement.) Wagner pinned Hernandez after Hijo de Dr. Wagner got involved.
6) Averno, Chessman, Súper Fly © b Carta Brava Jr., Mocho Cota Jr., Soul Rocker [AAA TRIOS]
OGT won the titles after Mascara de Bronce, Argenis & Bengala interfered and Poder del Norte attacked them after the match. They fall in their first defense.
6) Rey Escorpión b Texano Jr.Psycho Clown [#1 Contenders, AAA LA]
Escorpion pinned Psycho Clown to get the title shot. Fantasma attacked Texano but could not get his title back.

This is six days old and I can’t remember anything I want to say with it. Not sure how much #1 contender stuff will pan out when there’s still a briefcase sitting in Las Vegas that went nowhere and was never written out, but at least they got Suicide his title shot on the same day. Latin American stuff actually feels like it’s going more to a four way, because it would help them delay the Fantasma/Texano singles match and they keep wanting to delay that for whatever timing reason.

Lanzelot is headed to the same problem place as Argenis and Mascara de Bronce before him: AAA’s anointed him as the next big star, they all are actually talented, but the fans haven’t gotten behind him or gotten any particular reason to get him. At least they gave him a win here, but it’s going to be a hard road.

I was really annoyed with OGT winning the trios titles when it happened. Like most things, I don’t care about it after about a week. Super Fly being champion is cool, and AAA’s booked OGT like they’re the most important trio and I always believe the most important person(s) in the division should have the titles if they are to mean anything. It is making the entire five match series with Poder del Norte a waste, but AAA had already killed it dead with the last match and with Tito immediately losing his hair. You can say AAA had long term plans because they set up this title change about six months ago, but if the long term plan was to get to that title change, it was not a great plan.

AAA say Mesias could return to wrestling in “the first months of 2018” following his double knee surgery.

A bit taped over the summer where Hijo del Fantasma teaches New England Patriots Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman lucha libre will air in the US on the NFL Network on 11/14.

CMLL

Shocker was brought to the police station for questioning Wednesday night in Mexico City. He’s been accused of violence towards a sex worker, and for destroying the hotel room he was staying. The hotel has said Shocker caused 30,000 pesos (~$1,500 of damage.) Shocker’s not been officially charged yet; Mexican police can hold him for 48 while they investigate and that’s where they’re at now. A brief story about the arrest is on pretty much every news site in Mexico, as much for Shocker’s brief reality appearances as his wrestling.

Shocker is currently listed as working on Friday & Saturday’s CMLL show. I’d imagine he’ll be removed, but that’s no guarantee. He’s one half of the CMLL Tag Team champions, a reign that’s seemingly only gone on this long because one or the other has gotten injured and CMLL hasn’t wanted to just strip them of the titles. (CMLL keeps trying to set up Stuka & Diamante Azul to at least challenge for the tag titles, maybe even win them, since September, but things keep happening.) Shocker’s publicly talked about his issues with alcoholism and appeared to have quietly been suspended by CMLL for showing up in no condition to perform in the past. CMLL sees value in Shocker because he’s a very recognizable star, overlooking his dramatic decline in the ring after many knee injuries. I would not be surprised if they overlooked this as well.

straight falls quick match. Rush fouled UG for the DQ, then he and Volador attacked Caristico.

Still haven’t seen this show, probably won’t for a while, but the fifth match sounds like it went really (and another win for Sanson in the year all about him and Soberano.) Main event wasn’t much but the angle at the end, which teased Volador joining Los Ingobernables. He’s actually doing Ingobernable stuff in the hundred relevos increidible matches CMLL’s run this year but this time it counts I guess.

I have all tecnicos won (which means I probably screwed something up.) This was only a five match show, but it was even shorter than you’d expect at less than 2 hours even with the extra Dia de Muertos show. I do not expect there’s anything you needed to watch on this show.

5) Carístico, Marco Corleone, Volador Jr. b Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
Volador unmasked Caristico after the fact.

Volador selling more dedication to hating on Caristico than any other angle in this promotion. I appreciate it.

This has nothing to do with this show, but I do have last week’s TV show on my PC at home. Or, what aired last weekend: the show started off with a women’s match, which confused me because they didn’t have a women’s show on that taping. I skipped ahead to the main event, and there was an unmasked Sombra wrestling. They aired a two year old repeat. No particular reason.

CMLL announced a Legend’s show for next Friday. No matches are yet announced, but the named participants include Solar, Mano Negra, Super Astro, Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Cien Caras, Super Pinocho, Super Muneco, Satanico, Octagon, Canek, Fuerza Guerrera, Dos Caras, Black Terry and Negro Navarro. That last name is interesting, because Negro Navarro hasn’t been in a match since the end of July. He seconded Zeuxis, but hadn’t been seen much. It’s believed he suffered a heart attack, and this would probably be his first match back.

Atlantis will not be back in time. He does not yet have a return date. (I think I had it backwards on audio?) Atlantis was honored at Hipodromo de las Americas, a horse racing track.

CMLL also announced the bodybuilding contest will take place on 11/29, hyping the participation of Astral, Drone, Esfinge and Dalys.

Rey Cometa might not be wrestling, but he was at a wrestling press conference in Queretaro announcing a “Lucha Libre Satellite” group. Cometa’s a rare luchador to make it to the major promotions from Queretaro. The idea to fix that is to start regular shows in Satellite neighborhood biweekly, and later open a school.

Cometa is scheduled to team with Esfinge to challenge for the ROH Tag Team championship on 11/18 in Dallas. The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) are the current champions, with a defense scheduled against two members of the Kingdom before this one.

Virus talked about his career with La Cronica. He didn’t like the nickname “Pequeno Maestro” at first, because it meant he would have to live up to being perfect every time he got in to the ring. He’s gotten used to it.

Kaho Kobayashi, the current REINA Internacional Junior Championship.

El Sol de Centro has a profile on Pierrothito and Tackle, who’s training in CMLL’s school.

There’s a free show a few blocks from Arena Mexico Saturday afternoon including CMLL wrestlers.

DAY 1. This show looked like it did bad in the photos, but it seemed more like they probably ran the wrong building for the size of crowd this was going to draw – they probably drew more than AAA in Queretaro, but ran five times large a building. Still, this show led to the local promoter announcing on Facebook that he was quitting lucha libre. Flamita/Guevera didn’t get as strong reviews.

Rey Mysterio won the vacant championship. Volador Jr. appeared post match, attacking both Mysterio and Penta. Rush offered Volador the Los Ingobernables fist pound again, and Volador didn’t go for it (yet).
8) Bestia 666 b Jack Evans [hair]

Seemed like a sell out and a full crowd the whole way.  Jack looks very strange bald. Rey makes sense as champion, but the idea of a belt was totally over shadowed by Volador coming in. That was a surprise to everyone. Lots of good reviews for the matches. They were definitely taping this one for TV, with announcers live at ringside, but still no idea when it’s airing.

Lacey Lane is replacing Quetzal on all the shows, I think.

Hugo, on one of his video updates, dreamed of a future where The Crash would be running an Anniversary show at the soccer stadium.

Rush unmasked Rey Fenix to win. A video aired after the match teasing LA Park vs Rush, which will take place on the next The Crash show 12/17.

This was a fun show live. I liked he fourth match the best, but the fifth was entertaining too and Rob had it has favorite. Crowd was super into the main event.

6) Carlito, M-ximo, Penta Zero M b La Máscara, Pierroth, Rush
Penta got in a foul on La Mascara after Mascara had done the same to him. Ingobernables unmasked Penta post match with Fenix & Daga making the save.

It was a long travel day it took for the roster to get from Nuevo Laredo to Queretaro. I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this show, but this totally overdelivered expectations. We talked about this show a lot on the podcast. Gordon/Strickland vs Flamita/Ninja was match of the night, the three way tag match would fit on any US indie show, the opener was fun seeing the young kids try a lot.

No full results from Nuevo Laredo or Aguascalientes. If there was a tag title match in Nuevo Laredo, it hasn’t been mentioned. Early photos shows Aguascalientes not having drawn well, it looked a lot better in the photos. Back on Tuesday AAA announced they’d have a free show in Aguascalientes this weekend, which surely didn’t help The Crash. The local promoter is hoping for 3000 people in Metepec tonight.

This was a fun show. We were told not to film anything because they show would eventually be on Powerbomb.TV (check Rob’s twitter for rule violations), and this is a show you’re going to want to check out if/when it turns up. Matches 4/5/6 were all really fun, The DDTJ was really good, Mr. Iguana made himself a lot of new fans in the opener, and nothing on the show was bad. They had a pretty good big turnout for a small show. I hear there were really good tacos after the show too.

The first episode of Lucha de Barrio went up Friday. It’s only about a half hour with two matches and a few segments. I haven’t watched it yet, but it does look different from a normal lucha show. New episodes are coming out every two weeks, so I guess I’ll have time to catch up later.

DTU wrestlers (Crazy Boy, Drastick Boy, Miedo Extremo, Ciclope) will be working in Freelance on Friday, and GALLI on Saturday.

NBC News has an interview with GALLI luchador Mojo McQueen, who says he got into lucha libre just by flipping thru the channels and landing on Galavision one day.

Tony Salazar, Veneno, Eterno and Star Jr. talk about getting into lucha libre.

LuchaWorld has the latest Lucha Report and an interview with Aerostar.

Segunda Caida reviews Lucha Underground 3×19 (Dragon Azteca vs Matanza) and 20 (All Night Long).

Lucha Underground posted a video about their 4DX airing. It’s weird to LU keep tweeting, because every tweet gets one and only one response (“SEASON 4?!!?!?!”) and that’s thing they’re not talking about.

NPC Magazine has an interview with Guerrero Maya.

LuchaWorld has this week’s Poster-Mania, the latest podcast, and news updates from the 7th and the 9th.

Dr. Lucha was the guest on the latest Lucha Talk.

+Lucha has a new episode on their podcast.

Lineups

5) Cavernario, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs Sam Adonis, Shocker, Terrible
6) Marco Corleone, Mistico, Valiente vs Cuatrero, Sansón, Último Guerrero

A down show between two bigger ones. The Negro Casas/Sam Adonis feud is back, and the NGD get their first Friday main event.

CMLL (SAT) 11/11/2017 Arena Coliseo
1) Retro & Sensei vs Camorra & El Coyote
2) Flyer vs Sonic [lightning]
3) Astral, Magnus, Príncipe Diamante vs Cholo, Espanto Jr., Inquisidor
4) Esfinge, Fuego, Stigma vs Puma, Tiger, Universo 2000 Jr.
5) Ángel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Soberano Jr. vs Ephesto, Hechicero, Shocker
6) Carístico, Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone vs Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón

Flyer vs Sonic sounds like a interesting match which would probably be better elsewhere. It also means Cholo is getting a very weird tercera. NGD main eventing this show too.

CMLL (SUN) 11/12/2017 Arena México
1) Fiero & Sangre Imperial vs Apocalipsis & Yago
2) Astral, Oro Jr., Stigma vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Espíritu Negro, Metálico
3) Blue Panther Jr., Johnny Idol, The Panther vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Vangellys
4) Ángel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Titán vs Euforia, Luciferno, Mephisto
5) Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone, Volador Jr. vs Kamaitachi, Naito, Rush

here’s the story so far with this Naito thing

  • Naito does an interview saying he’s got some time between his UK matches and the World Tag League, maybe he’ll go to Mexico and find a partner to create news (which would be a new member of Los Ingobernables)
  • Rush offers Volador a spot in Los Ingobernables based on their shared hatred of Caristico. Volador declines to answer.
  • Volador shows up in The Crash at Tijuana, aiding Mascara & Rush against Rey Mysterio & Penta. He again is offered a spot in Los Ingobernables and declines to answer. He’s definitely a heel in The Crash, though it’s left unclear when/if he’ll be back.
  • NJPW announces the World Tag League teams, and there’s no Naito team. (All the guys who have made 01/04 matches are not included, because everyone knows they won’t win the tournament and get the tag title shot at the 01/04 show.) This means Naito was hyping a partner for matches he doesn’t actually have
  • Naito seems as confused as the rest of us on Twitter, then did an interview saying he bought a ticket to go to Mexico to go find a partner only to find out he wasn’t in the tournament.

Naito and TBD partner could still take someone else’s spot. Or, no one could be joining Los Ingobernables and this could be just screwing around for the sake of screwing around (a Los Ingobernabales trademark!) Volador being in the match makes it seem like there should be some resolution to this story, but Volador on Informa said he wasn’t really offered a spot in Los Ingobernables and didn’t want to join.

I’d be thinking that someone else would turn, but Diamante Azul doesn’t make sense (not going to Japan). Marco’s the ex-Ingobernable member and it wouldn’t be impossible, but it never quite fit him last time.

(The bigger disappointment is not that this story might have been nothing, but they didn’t put Dragon Lee in the match.)

That opener is one Apocalipsis from being very good.

6) Dallys la Caribeña © vs Princesa Sugehit [CMLL WOMEN]
14th defense

CMLL wrestlers are also main eventing the MDA show, so they’ve got local promoters competing against themselves. Apodaca is a bit of a drive from the Monterrey but that still seems not so optimum.

16 defenses is a lot of defenses. It’s going to be funny when Mr. Niebla is the Shocker replacement. A lot of similar stuff form last week (Malayo/Lestat higher than usual, tag match).

6) Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone, Stuka Jr. vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Shocker

Look, they’re setting up Azul/Stuka vs Shocker/Casas again. Virus single matches are worthwhile no matter than means. Fiero is back.

Jun Kasai’s DTU appearance is in a tag match, with Crazy King facing his old partners. Jimmy Lloyd is back from GCW. It looks like there’s a new tag team of Gamers?

1) Astrolux, Pegasuz, Torito Negro vs Black Metal, Látigo, Tiago
2) Keyra vs Lacy Lane

5) LA Park, Penta 0M, Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Carlito, Garza Jr., La Máscara

The Crash’s debut in Ecatepec, with LA Park on board on the tecnico side. Can’t see that ending well. Terry/Solar vs Daga/Fenix should be interesting.

Luke Hawk is a US indie wrestler. He’s also the guy who’s licensed as a promoter in New Orleans, which allows a lot of other promotions to run in the city for WrestleMania. That might be the connection here.

5) La Parka, Pagano, Psycho Clown vs ?, Joe Lider, Mr. Águila

An AAA spot show  in Naucalpan. these usually don’t turn out to be anything notable, but the seocnd match is a maestro match with some people we don’t usually see.

The first AAA TV main event of this year was Pentagon Jr. vs Johnny Mundo. Now they’re at Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. versus Hernandez. I’m going to be asked to write a year in review and I’m just going to submit those two matches. If you like people not getting along leading to poor matches, this show is definitely for you.
