AAA Star Battle 2017, LWC, IWRG, Puebla preview

AAA TV (MON) 10/09/2017 Shinkiba 1st Ring, Tokyo, Japan [AAA]
Attendance: 290
1) Aerostar b Marty The Moth
2) Angélico & Son of Havoc b Masamune & Taiji Ishimori
Son of Havoc pinned Masamune
3) Pagano & Psycho Clown b Minoru Fujita & Nosawa
4) King Cuerno b Drago
5) Vampiro NC Mil Muertes
Nosawa ran in and attacked both men, leading to no finish.

290 is a guess; it looked like a full house. They hung the same sort of Lucha Underground posters as the Temple to give it a similar feel. It was a nice touch.

There’s no real read on how the matches went, outside of the main event ending in an angle to build up tomorrow’s Lucha World Cup. That reads as silly and counter productive; if you’re going to this show, you’re probably already hyped enough to want to go to the Lucha World Cup anyway. Ending the show without a finish is only going to make fans less interested; it’s not like fans are going to read about this and have to go see Nosawa and Vampiro square off tomorrow. (A real LU show would have someone lose by distraction after Nosawa ran in.) No card order seemed to be advertised; they probably could’ve moved the non-finish to earlier in the card to make sure people left a little happier. The finish, like a lot of things AAA does, is probably going to make no difference either way but it’d help if following the AAA product was a little bit more enjoyable.

This show is expected to air as highlights on SamuraiTV. It’s unclear if it’ll turn up on any of AAA’s outlets – it may, it may not, AAA hasn’t said and anything is possible. AAA did post a promo from Psycho Clown from the event.

Tomorrow (4AM central time) is the Lucha World Cup. It is also not streaming live anywhere; there definitely was a plan to air on Twitch after the success of TripleMania, but it quietly went away. It should air on TV at some point.

For what it’s worth, Vampiro wrote on Facebook a few day sago he wasn’t expecting to be in the Lucha World Cup, but is “wrestling three or four matches.” He’s only wrestling four matches if he and Mil Muertes are making it to the final. Maybe he is (that would be terrible), but the bigger question is: if Vampiro really isn’t booking himself on the shows, who is and why? Let that mess with your Lucha World Cup predictions.

IWRG (SUN) 10/08/2017 Arena Naucalpan [+LuchaTV, The Gladiatores]
1) Power Bull b Fly Tiger
2) Demonio Infernal b Vórtize
Vortize replaced Hijo del Bombero, and was checked on by the dotor after the match
3) Aramis, Climax Jr., Shaolin DQ Harry The Sick, Taylor Wolf, Violencia Jr.
Psycho Kid replaced Climax Jr.. Taylor Wolf used a foul.
4) Rayan, Spartan, Spector b Black Terry, Bombero Infernal, Súper Brazo Jr.
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Rafy, Teelo vs Black Dragón, Diablo Jr., Dinamic Black, Dragón Fly
911 & Ak47 replaced Leo & Mike, and (with Fierro) attacked the turtles blaming them loss.
6) Hijo De Dos Caras, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Veneno DQ Black Warrior, Pirata Morgan, Warrior Jr.
everyone attacked Mascara 2000 Jr. His two mystery men made the save, and are billed as the new Capos.

There’s still no identities to Mascara 2000 friends, but that seems like it’s coming next week. Comando Elite keep winning, which again seems like a Castillo del Terror thing but there’s no sure bet any IWRG angle is going to get to a conclusion.

Today’s CMLL Puebla show has Dalys defending her CMLL Women’s championship for the 12th time, the first time against Princesa Sugehit. Dalys title matches feel very planned out. They can be good but artificial, or derail. A title change is not impossible,  there’s no real challengers for Dalys at this point, but there’s no sense it’s coming.

The main event is the odd ball times of Euforia, Marco and Ultimo vs Rush, Sam Adonis and Terrible. Rush fouled Marco last week, so that’s the focus here and probably a heavyweight match in the next couple weeks. The semimain has the Sky Team versus the Hijos del Infernal, which probably will end up the best match of the night. Esfinge, Stigma, Cuatrero and Sanson continue to face off on these shows, with Pegasso and Virus filling out the trios. The openers are 2v2 matches: Oro Jr. & Tiger Rojo Jr. against Inquisidor & Rey Apocalipsis and good Tlaxcala luchador Astro & Meyer taking on Joker & Sombra Diabolica. The show will air at 9pm as usual.

There’s a AAA/The Crash battle of a sort in Nuevo Laredo tonight. Promotions Cantu has AAA’s Rey Wagner & Rey Escorpion against indie LA Park and Laredo Kid. The Crash has Daga & Penta vs La Mascara and a sub for Garza JR. This show also has a Keith Lee vs Brian Cage in a singles match.

Herodes Jr. suffered serious leg and spine issues in a car accident this weekend. He was on the way to Monterrey. He’s in the hospital in stable condition.

Riot’s 11/04 show in Arena LLF has five matches

Alberto el Patron’s previously mentioned Championship Wrestling From Hollywood appearance turned out to be first episode of a version of the show in Spanish. His match is about 30 minutes into this video.
