This was the last show before the hiatus. The semimain set up UG/Flip for this upcoming Tuesday. Guadalajara hasn’t been directly affected by the earthquake, but it seemed like they didn’t run a show tonight after all. It’s possible they might run again Tuesday even if Arena Mexico does not.

CMLL’s collection efforts wrapped up today. They thanked everyone for participating, and said news about benefit shows and when they’d resume will be announced soon. MedioTiempo checked in with the luchadors, who say most of the items have gone to the south part of Mexico City (Xochimilco) and that they were planning on taking more to Puebla. NJPW started collecting funds for Mexico at their shows.

CMLL appeared to start putting the Anniversary show on their YouTube channel, then stopped after the first match.

I’m trying to finish up a recap of AAA’s taping from Saturday for tomorrow morning. The big thing wasn’t said, but definitely teased: Sunday’s AAA Heroes Inmortales may also be airing on Twitch. Jeremy Borash teased it a couple times during the course of the show, so maybe look for an announcement today. The Twitch stream they ran on Saturday did about 3,000 on the Spanish feed, and over 600 on English. That’s about 20% of what TripleMania did. It was a lot different card, but they’re better off if they can announce these things early.

Saturday marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of El Santo. Hijo del Santo & El Santo marked the celebration with a ceremony at the El Santo’s statue in his home town of Tulancingo. There are articles about Santo in Spanish and English. and there was probably more coverage planned until the earthquake. Claro has stories about his movies, his apuesta wins, and the anniversary. The show to celebrate him will now be held on Thursday.

Metalico talks about helping people evacuate after the 1985 earthquake. It sounds like his neighborhood was destroyed by that one.

El Fantasma suffered a heart attack earlier this week. On the AAA Spanish Twitch broadcast, they said he wrestled in Cancun last week and suffered it after the match. The announcers said it’d was now Fantasma’s final match. He seemed in good health at the show. They did the a tease of the heels going after him to distract his son, but it got cut off before it really went anywhere.

Penta’s Instagram had a poster for the upcoming Crash show on 10/05 with a TV Azteca logo. The poster was later deleted. No idea if it was a fake poster or if he got it out too soon.

Lucha Underground’s Eric Van Wagenen was on Afterbuzz TV talking about Lucha Underground. This seemed like it was in response to the latest LU is dead run of stories – but, there’s not much hard news for him to give since nothing is happening. He was asked the Season 4 question a couple of different times in a couple of different ways, and said “I think there’s a better than even chance we’ll be doing a season 4”. Near the end of the podcast, he says he expects a decision with El Rey in the next month.

The reality is those “LU is just about dead” stories are going to be there weekly (on Thursdays) until the show gets renewed or is actually dead – but they exist not because there’s some new development, but because there have been no development at all. There’s really no news here; the last bit of news was the missing the cut off date to tape again in 2017, and nothing has happened. People understandably get concerned when nothing is happen, and they’re right to be concerned because the money may not be figured out, but nothing we’re hearing has any new information on the money. In that interview, Van Wagenen mentions El Rey has a certain time frame to renew Lucha Underground before losing the rights, which is the same thing that’s been said before. MGM & El Rey have differing opinions on what LU should cost, and there’s no great incentive to either side giving in until they get close to that deadline. It’s a waiting game to see if which side blinks, or if neither side does.

(It’s also worth nothing that even El Rey saying no wouldn’t be the end of this; Van Wagenen is certain MGM would shop the show around to other places if El Rey doesn’t pick up by whatever deadline they have.)

If you do go to about 45 minutes into that podcast, there’s an entertaining unexpected story: one of the podcast hosts was the “fan” who was shoved by Matanza in the street fight with Dragon Azteca (when Azteca gets chokeslammed thru the bleachers), and the circumstances were an interesting experience.  Van Wagenen also asked about explained the decision to allow LU wrestlers to appear on Impact was made by “the LLC” (Dorian). He was against the idea of their wrestlers showing up elsewhere when the show begin, but now is more positive towards especially since they’re not providing work for the guys themselves, and hope it’s expands to everyone. (So, if there’s someone who is keeping people from appearing in ROH or elsewhere, it’s not Van Wagenen.)

+LuchaTV put up last week’s complete IWRG show, the carnival of champions show where the power went out midway thru the show. IWRG did run their show as scheduled tonight.

Ryan Kidd, who wrestles in California and Baja California, says he’s headed to CMLL to train in a couple weeks.

The lucha libre expo went on in Oaxaca, though delayed by earthquake.

Martinez Entertainment is running on 10/28 with Super Porky as special guest. Matches include Arez & Low Rider vs Gringo Loco & Steve Pain.

Box Y Lucha 3302 is focused on the earthquake.

  1. Kidd is the guy who popped up backstage during The Hardy’s trip to Mexico, right? The Crash jumps to CMLL!
