AAA in Irapuato, AAA in Univision Deportes, Octagon returns to CMLL with a win

this happened

AAA TV (MON) 09/04/2017 Palenque Inforum, Irapuato, Guanajuato [AAA]
1) Angelikal, Hijo Del Vikingo, Solaris b Ángel Mortal Jr., Tiger Boy, Villano III Jr.
Siad to be a great match. After the match, Pagano came to the ring and said everyone would see the real Pagano at Heroes Inmortales. A Pagano, Joe Lider and Mesias death match was announced for Heroes Inmortales
2) Lady Shani b Big MamiAyako HamadaFaby ApacheLa Hiedra [#1 Contenders, Reina De Reinas]
AAA declared the Reina de Reinas title was vacant before the match. Shani won a spot in the title match at Heroes Inmortaes (which suggests another challenger has been determined, or maybe will be decided in Hard Rock.)
3) Mini Psycho Clown © b Dinastía [AAA MINI]
Dinastia had the win but Marty got involved to help fellow clown Mini Psycho win via foul.
4) Carta Brava Jr., Mocho Cota Jr., Soul Rocker b Aerostar, Drago, Raptor
Poder del Norte tied the series 2-2, with the final at Heroes Inmortales.
5) Eli Drake © b Máscara de Bronce [GFW GLOBAL]
Mascara de Bronce challenged for a shot, lost.
6) Averno, Chessman, Súper Fly DQ Argenis, Lanzeloth, Ricky Marvin
bloody match. Super Fly tricked the referee into believing Ricky Marvin used a chair (and that was a DQ this night.) Vampiro set up a domed cage match for Heroes Inmortales for this six people, loser loses hair or mask.
7) EC3 & James Storm b Hijo del Fantasma & Texano Jr.
Fantasma & Texano couldn’t get along.
8) Dr. Wagner Jr. b Psycho ClownRey Escorpión
Psycho & Wagner started the show by talking about a rematch before Escorpion added himself to the match. Rey Escorpion fouled Psycho Clown and Wagner grabbed the pin. Kevin Kross attacked Psycho & Wagner after the match.

This taping looks like it’ll air on 09/23 and 09/30, but I’m just guessing at TripleMania being two weeks and no one’s said anything.

AAA’s only statement on the Sexy Star situation is mentioning the Reina de Reinas title is vacant. AAA’s wrestlers and staff have spent all night and morning stuck in buses due an accident on the highway, so it’s possible they might be planning to say more once they’re back in their offices. On the other hand, they’ve had more than a week to say something or simply decide what they were going to say when this came up, and “the title is vacant” is all they came up with. It took them a lot less time to figure out what they were going to say when they were taking this same title away from Taya.

Taking the title away from Sexy Star is a good thing, but it also feel like the minimum possible thing. AAA isn’t condemning her actions, they’re not disputing her version of events, they’re not making her apologize or apologizing for her, they’re not saying they won’t work with Sexy Star again, and they’re not promising to treating fellow wrestlers with a bit more respect. Sexy Star, like a lot of people in lucha libre, take championships far more seriously than they should. Taking the title belt away from her probably will hurt her, but she’ll also probably just walk around telling everyone she’s the real champ because that’s what she’s done the last two times she’s lost a championship without taking a pinfall. The next champion was almost certainly going to be “vacant”, with something like with The Crash title (Sexy works an injury so she’s eliminated without being pinned) being the best possible scenario. It’s good AAA seems to be disassociating themselves from Sexy Star, because anything less than this would’ve been endorsing her actions, but this as the total statement is underwhelming.

aside 1: and because AAA’s chosen to leave Sexy Star’s claims unanswered, they’re actually getting a fair bit of criticism from people who believe Sexy Star is in the right and is being unfairly maligned. Sexy Star is a popular and uplifting celebrity, so no amount of explaining is going to change the minds of some people who are deadset in believing it was a work (it was definitely not a work) or that Rosemary wasn’t really hurt (she definitely was hurt), but AAA’s decision to say nothing means they’re getting it from both sides today.

aside 2: I’m assuming Sexy Star has been stripped of the title but AAA doesn’t actually say that. It could be that she quit AAA again first, but I wouldn’t think AAA would strip her of the title if they were trying to still work with her. Shani winning the #1 contender’s shot too suggests AAA’s picked a side.)

AAA was interesting in talking about Heroes Inmortales, quickly setting up matches for that show. The local promoter for this show in Irapuato is also the local promoter in San Luis Potosi for Heroes Inmortales, and they released that lineup Sunday night before the matches were actually made on. That seems like it exposes the business more than talking about why Sexy Star’s armbar actual injuring Rosemary was a bad thing but whatever. Also, it’s AAA so the matches have already been changed.

Marty seems to be assembling all the Clowns for something. Pagano’s line about seeing his true colors leaves open the possibility he might be getting back involved with them too. The bigger news is AAA finally appears to have something for Dinastia. There’s no reason for Joe Lider to be in that match, nor did they really try to come up with one, it’s just about Joe Lider being willing to do some dumb stuff so that’s the match for him.

There’s not hint about who Shani will face. It’d be hilarious if it was Taya, but that seems unlikely. Maybe GFW could send someone, but maybe not given that’s how AAA is in that spot now anyway. (Rosemary vs Shani would also be hilarious.) Kobra Moon/Thunder Rosa has worked for AAA in Tijuana, maybe she could be brought in. It is possible AAA hasn’t worked this out yet and it’ll be one of the people who lost the #1 contenders match. It is noticeable this #1 contenders bit has come up multiple times in the last few months and Faby Apache never wins and never is involved in the title match, which would’ve been a certainty in past years.

AAA’s first show on Univison Deportes aired last night. If you didn’t see it, you didn’t miss a lot – they’re assuming people are coming in at a really low level of knowledge and had to be explained the basics about lucha libre and AAA before they do any more. It was mostly Univision Deportes hosts asking setting up brief questions and cutting to snippets of interviews with Psycho Clown, La Parka, Texano, Fantasma and Faby Apache explaining things along side footage from past TripleManias. The interviews must’ve been done a long time ago, because they also included Marisela, Dorian and Joaquin Roldan – the onscreen graphic noted Joaquin had passed away but it otherwise didn’t seem touched on. These one hour shows will air all week until airing a one hour version of TripleMania, explaining more about AAA as they go along. Univision Deportes being involved in producing the shows seems like a good sign for them being interested enough to pick up the show full time. It’ll probably be more on AAA delivering the show to them, which seems to have been a problem with the other international stuff they’ve done.

Octagon tried to put in a good first impression by trying, but wasn’t any good (and shouldn’t have been expected to be.) Octagon submitted UG for the win was astounding but I guess they didn’t give themselves any better options – Gran Guererro would be a worse choice and they they’re probably setting up something with Kojima.

Niebla Roja wasn’t on the show, isn’t on any show, but was announced for CMLL Informa. Good to know he’s alive at least.

Today’s CMLL show has a Diamante Azul, Caristico, Stuka versus Negro Casas, Shocker, and Terrible as the main event. Negro Casas & Shocker are the current CMLL tag team champions and yet this will be the first time they’ve been programmed together as a team in CMLL and made it to the match. (They teamed back in June when they were both subs.) Haha no, the preview actually lists Mr. Niebla replacing Shocker tonight. That team is cursed.

The semimain has Blue Panther, Angel de Oro and Johnny Idol vs Hechicero, Dragon Rojo and Polvora. The Panther faces Misterioso in the lightning match. The rest of the card has a women’s match, a usual second match, and Fiero returning from near death last year in the opener.

10/21 Lucha Libre y Pasion in Arena San Juan

IWRG says they won’t be running any Wednesday shows this month.

Silver King says Dr. Wagner should’ve fought harder to keep his mask, isn’t the international star he is. They’re not close right now.

LuchaWorld has the week’s Poster-Mania.

A new lucha libre museum is opening in Puebla.

Mexico state luchadora Miss Coral talks about women’s wrestling.

5) Carístico, Octagón, Volador Jr. vs Gran Guerrero, Kojima, Negro Casas

Main event feels like they were meant to have started a program last night and forgot. Not sure why the semimain is what it is.

I wonder if it’s a coincidence Octagon is getting booked in the building Tirnates seems to be running, since he’d know Octagon more recently than anyone else in AAA.

One thought to “AAA in Irapuato, AAA in Univision Deportes, Octagon returns to CMLL with a win”

  1. I know these things usually lead to legendary luchador, and cmll parting with each other due to dissagreements. But does anyone else think CMLL is planning to convince Octagon to lose his mask for a huge payday like AAA did with Wagner?

    Atlantis Vs. Octagon??? …Hmmmmm
